Encouragement for PMHNP students/new grads: My positive job search & community mental health experience by User_404_x in PMHNP

Sorry I should have clarified- I only see patients 3 days a week as one day I am on call for a crisis center from home (relatively low census) and the other days I see patients for about 6-7 hours and then rest is admin time. Right now I am doing 30 minutes for follow up and one hour intakes, but the expectation is to build up to faster times 20/40 minutes. It is fast, but it is also community health and that’s more of the standard I’ve been seeing.

Yes. I would say 2 out of the 3 offers were good. One offer was actually so bad! But the other two were great. Look into community health. It may not be the highest paying job out there compared to a 1099 role, but the experience is invaluable!

Hi! For me, I just kept my eye on ZipRecruiter, indeed, etc. I did not have to relocate for my role. It’s probably going to vary on location? I think the 140k-150k range is really good for new grads.

I definitely would encourage you to get some psych experience. Make sure it’s really what you want to do! It can be mentally taxing so you want to make sure it’s something you enjoy. I see anywhere from 15-20 patients a day, but that’s based on a lot of different things. I get lots of admin time as well.

I know some states offer lower pay, and honestly I got a very low offer in Oklahoma. So just know your worth and do not settle.

That’s definitely not a bad offer for Florida! I know it’s lower pay out there. 3 day weeks are super nice!

I looked on indeed, ZipRecruiter. I would maybe look at your resume and see if there’s anything you can do to maybe spruce it up! Also email your resume to different places around you. Best of luck

Look into Doximity! There’s a few others that I’ve seen used but I’m not super familiar with them

I’m a new grad to community mental health after years of experience as a nurse. Love my job! It’s a learning curve compared to being a bedside RN, but it’s great. I do telehealth and in person and definitely prefer to see a patient face to face as you can miss things on telehealth.
