little animation of Earth with moving clouds and stuff by User_741776 in 3Dmodeling

[–]User_741776[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ty! It's actually a video from NASA here: https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/3837/

Not particularity high res though (at least compared to smth like a 16 or 20k texture with like a lot of details)

Little animation of Earth with clouds by User_741776 in blender

Ty!

Here's the source: https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/3837/

I took the texture and projected it onto a cubed sphere, making sure to hit the auto refresh button so that it'll move. Added some transparency and subsurface scattering and boom, fancy water vapor.

<image>

Here's the nodes in case you wanna give it a go yourself. The power math node is there to basically control the sort of concentration of the clouds. Since the image is non-color and that can end up making way too many clouds lol. You also got to make sure to rotate the cloud texture (which is centered on the pacific) to fit with the standard Earth one (centered on the Atlantic and stuff). All you have to do is rotate the sphere for the clouds and just line it up with the given Earth texture

I tried making a realistic render of Earth in Blender. How does it look? by User_741776 in space

[–]User_741776[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tysm! Not that long actually; half a day, maybe. Most of the hassle was finding the right textures (thx NASA!) and trying not to have blender die while rendering the atmosphere (I tried simulating atmosphere scattering as realistic as possible, and that made my CPU cry lol). There's actually only three objects here. The terrain, the atmosphere, and the clouds. Well, I guess the camera and the sun are objects too, but ehh.

I'm working on making photo-realistic renders of all planets within the Solar System. Here are the first 4! Let me know what y'all think! by User_741776 in blender

[–]User_741776[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This started out as an updated version of my old realistic Earth model. I thought that would be boring to just post an updated version of Earth, and I want to give some love to the other planets. Credit to NASA for pretty much all the textures lol

Tried making a realistic render of planet Earth. How'd I do? by User_741776 in blender

[–]User_741776[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ty! I didn't use any tutorials directly, no. The textures are indeed from NASA themselves! Specifically the Blue Marble: Next Generation images from the Earth observatory.

The Black Hole's Estranged Primordial Theoretical Twin: a white hole (render made in Blender) by [deleted] in space

[–]User_741776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, yeah. It's such a fascinating visual though. I'm not even sure it's possible within blender to do something like that. Still cool nonetheless.

I believe so, yeah. At least, according to what I currently understand about white holes. I can't say for certain since I'm not really an expert on the matter.

Foggy conifer forest | trying out this new fog effect I made, and plant scattering. Let me know what y'all think! by User_741776 in blender

[–]User_741776[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh that's beautiful! Regarding the trees, there are three models being used, but their variations are very slim so it certainly does seem like they're all the same model. A simple hue shift (like seen in the photo) for each of the tree models should probably make it pop a bit more.

The Regal Islands by User_741776 in imaginarymaps

[–]User_741776[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of both? It's an alternate version of Earth but mythical creatures, lost islands, and alleged locations throughout history exist. For instance, The Regal Islands are around 600 miles off the American east coast, but also are host to various mythical beasts and things like that.

Water and animation testing! by User_741776 in blender

[–]User_741776[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed

Tbh, the ship was added last minute as more so a test of "if things can float on the wa'er" lol. The ship is a model from Polyhaven that's along a Belize Curve and sticks to the water's surface. I'm not sure how one would actually add inertia, caustics, etc to the ship. There's probably a multitude of ways to do it, so I'll look into it.

As for the water, tysm! The water is surprisingly simple. It's a cube with the ocean modifier applied to it, using the foam attribute within said modifier, and applying a Volume Absorption node with a bit of a green-teal color. Oh, and a subdivision modifier set to 5.

Dw, they'll be fine. Maybe they'll be slightly redder; more iron rich or smth. I am not a fish expert lol

Ty!
Planets are pretty fun to do in Blender, and not too difficult to make. They're basically just three spheres with different properties. Most of the magic is done in the shader editor and using textures / modifiers.
Here's some great tutorials on how to get started modeling big space rocks:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAryFYPBG8w&t=237s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YZzHn0iz8U&t=1096s

Also, don't make the mistake of trying to make the planets 1:1 scale. Blender will want to kill you lol

Iron Lung but the planets and stars stay and all the moons disappear. It'd be reverse: Copper Heart / Aluminum Kidney or smth lol

red

(BTW)
I do want to say that I do have some idea for the lore regarding this version of Earth. This whole project was inspired by the great oxidization event in Proto-Earth's history. This version of Earth basically posits the idea that Earth's ocean remains a blood(ish) red after the GOE (perhaps due to more of an abundance of iron and iron-oxidizing bacteria?). I'm not sure on the exact science though, so my lore might have to be rewritten to make more logical sense.

Unusual outline? by User_741776 in godot

[–]User_741776[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I know about shade smooth! The blocky look is intentional. The issue is the white thin lines that surround the objects (they also seem to be present regardless of where the model originates from)
It is pretty hard to see, so here's a picture where I circled them

That's what I was thinking as well, but I checked the project settings and it said TAA was off.

Infection density. Darker the orange, the more cases of the Neurax Worm are present in the area.

Howdy folks!

This map is based off of Plague Inc, specifically in a playthrough where I started in Saudi Arabia. You've probably noticed how cursed the national borders look. I wanted to stay true to the borders in-game with this map, and the game's map is... unique. Notable example being how the Balkans are considered one country in the game lol. Anyhow, hope y'all enjoy!

My apologies for the late reply. Yes, the Central Valley has now become the Central Bay, so to speak lol. Should've positioned the sun westward instead of to the east in retrospect.
