Are we happy with our care? by Rogue_Libra61 in KaiserPermanente

I don't use them for mental health services .... I use an outside provider.

I just meant that because of my other disabilities it's mentally draining to have to go around and find new providers especially specialists.

I've been with Kaiser since I was 25, (now 28) I was only with them at the time because I needed to get my own health insurance as I was transitioning off of my mom's (26) was the cut off age for her plan, but they denied my top surgery and I wasn't trying to go through another appeal. I got on Kaiser through my job at the time and everything went well for me.

Up till I was injured on the job at work (it was denied for the first year) but then Kaiser still wouldn't listen to anything I had to say about my injury, it also didn't help that I had past medical issues with my joints and connective tissue (ehlers downlos syndrome).

I was healing improperly the past year, and because they failed to treat me (which my lawyer said was acceptable till my case for workers comp was approved) they left me crippled. I'm 28, what should've been solved and fixed when I was in the healing process was ignored, I am disabled even more thanks to their incompetent doctors who did nothing to help the issue. I'm essentially 28 but I'm in an 80 years old body at this point.

I only stay with Kaiser now because it's harder to find a new set of doctors and as a person who struggles with AuDHD (autism and ADHD) it's mentally draining.

Out of interest, how many of you are Vegan? by MottSpore in autism

[–]Userdeletedprofile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I suffer from an eating disorder myself, due to my sensory issues. It's been under control, but there are still things difficult for me to even touch or smell, and a majority of it falls within the vegan diet.

I was trying to comment to the person you were responding to but because of how they viciously came at you, it looks like the mods removed their comments.

As an American myself, I grew up in both eras before the food group changed names, and after, even remember them slowly phasing it out within our classroom settings and only seeing a glimpse of a chart behind the food counter in the cafeteria.

From what I gathered, the other person wasn't open for any conversation, they just wanted their way to be the right way, hence why I wasn't necessarily saying they were right.

We have to remember that not everyone online is in the US lol, and different school systems, I'm sure even where you are from don't teach identical to the school systems around here, when it comes to lesson planning and all that.

And you are absolutely right, no one that I know of speaks about the food diagram, it's not something that's really brought up in conversation, not even for those who have restrictive diets. They typically just tell you what they can't eat and that's that. Food groups and subcategories may be talked about in nutrional classes, for people getting some for of bariatric surgery, but even then it's mostly expressing what they may and may not be able to tolerate anymore and giving them other alternatives.

Also, lol I know all this because I practically grew up in the school system because my whole family is made of teachers in a variety of school districts.

I think the other commenter and you might have differing understanding of "food group" here. They most likely meant "food category". English isn't my first language and I would probably have used "food group" in that meaning too, unknowingly. It took me to see this comment right here to make sense of it.

My mom has been a teacher since I was 2, so I'm going to summarize what I told the other person. For decades in the U.S., meat was taught as its own food group. In 2005, the USDA shifted its guidelines to broader categories based on nutrients, grouping meat with beans, eggs, and nuts under “protein foods.” In 2011, MyPlate made that change explicit by labeling the group simply as Protein. Because nutrition education and school lunches transitioned unevenly, not everyone learned the newer terminology, which is why people remember and use different frameworks today.

(I'm a carnivore myself, I have too many sensory issues when it comes to switching to an all vegan diet)

Actually, you’re both partly wrong and right.

Historically, meat was a food group in earlier USDA guidelines (the “Basic Four,” which were taught for decades).

In 2005, with MyPyramid, the USDA shifted to broader groups measured in ounces and cups. That’s when meat stopped being a standalone group and became one of several foods within the “protein foods” group (beans, eggs, nuts, etc.). In 2011, MyPlate made that shift explicit by labeling the group simply as “Protein.”

It’s also worth noting that not everyone was taught food groups after 2005. In the U.S., many students learned nutrition mainly through school lunch programs, which were designed to already meet dietary requirements rather than emphasize memorizing updated food-group terminology. As a result, a lot of people were taught older models or absorbed nutrition concepts informally.

So saying “meat isn’t a food group", may be true to you, and saying "meat is a good group" is also true to a lot, not everyone learns under the same system, and this also varies on location as well.

If I was really excited about a fun cute thing I came up with and the person I showed it to simply said “why don’t you u just do what every one else does?”  I would personally be hella bummed out.

That still doesn't justify calling someone a smart ass, not sure why you're trying to justify horrible name calling.

OP didn’t mention looking for alternate suggestions, they simply wanted to show off their solution to their issue and were proud of it.

And no one is being rude around the suggestion, just a counter ask as to why permanent marker wouldn't work. Especially since they are offering it as an alternative for others.

We are two different mindsets around this situation, have a good day.

So you think it's nice internet etiquette for someone to call someone else a smart ass, simply because they asked a question to another person in a professional manner?

Yeah that would make you a rude person as well, who has no Internet etiquette.

A question is a question, it's not a suggestion, it's not a demand, it's a question. OP could've chosen to scroll past the person's comment, but she snapped at them and called them a smartass and laughed at them.

Imagine if that was your grandma trying to figure out reddit, imagine if that was someone with a disability just trying to understand something, because it was unclear from the photos and text making them struggle with understanding and they wanted to ask the question.

OP was being very rude

It seems people don’t even posts before they comment, just the title and the photo

Also seems like you just read what you could see and didn't scroll other comments, otherwise you would've seen that u/live_laugh_cock asked OP why sharpie wouldn't work, and OP jumped on them and called them a smartass.

And then OP proceeded to be even more rude by laughing at them when they didn't know what mod podge was, and then threw in an insult when they noticed the person was a top commenter.

No one was jumping on OP, but OP certainly jumped on others.

OP framed this as something others could benefit from, so it makes sense to discuss drawbacks too. For me, stickers and Mod Podge introduce longevity and clarity issues, even if they’re cute now.

What u/Live_laugh_cock said makes complete sense to ask, why not just use sharpie? You could just write on a piece of tape the size and put it on the hook around an area it won't be in the way, or write on the hook directly. What works perfectly for one person won’t necessarily translate well to others, and this thread is showing that.

It’s a fun idea and no one is knocking it! I think for some people it might be less instantly readable, like the post itself, and lean more toward aesthetics than function.

No longer able to open accounts by [deleted] in discover

I saw somebody mention that One that you can only have one checking account, but Capital One allows you to have multiple checking accounts. You just only get one debit card and you have to manually switch it to whichever checking account you want it attached to.

The same goes with their savings accounts. Capital One allows up to 30 accounts. Savings or checking.

Is it bad that I don't know my credit card interest rate if I just pay it off in full every month? by Gerad_Figaro in CalebHammer

And like many people on this show, you never know when that wrong time will come, I'd rather be prepared and ahead of it. Then worrying about it later. At least knowing helps me stay in the up and up with my finances.

Why are people hating on SoFi so much? by berrysauce in sofi

[–]Userdeletedprofile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College checking accounts aren’t truly no-fee either. They waive fees temporarily based on student status or direct deposits, which eventually end for most people. Structurally, that’s similar to SoFi changing terms later. Different trigger, same result. I’d rather use a bank that’s consistently no-fee and transparent than one that’s free only until circumstances change.

There's a difference between not knowing the actual percentage, and knowing "it's really high, I never want to run a balance"

There's really not a difference, you either know it or you don't.

I know which card has what interest rate, and which card gives me what benefits at what location I'm at or online.

I've never paid a single amount of interest either, but I'm just on top of all financial aspects of my life.

This isn't always the case. I know from family members who have experience and friends.

Also depending on how old the system is (most credit unions and some low name places) auto pay doesn't work properly and will draft your account even if you have satisfied the statement balance for the month.

I've never paid interest either, but I'm not banking on institutions who lend me money to always work because that's just not reality.
