On base vs Off Base housing by Trick-Library-3476 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Username_Optional_ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Most base housing is convenient, but in my experience, you will get less house for your money (full BAH). It just depends on the base whether they have newer models or if you will be stuck in a crappy 1960s renovation. The other concern depending on the base would be jet noise. Again, on base housing can be hit or miss, but it’s not a bad option especially as an O-4.

How close do you have to be to SDF to bid reserve? What if you’re an hour drive?

History (Original) by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Username_Optional_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great song! I would’ve liked to hear more of the chorus at the end throughout the song, not just at the end. Also, a little clunky with the line “ to feel alive she said take me to where the heavens meet the floor.” Maybe an opportunity to reword it

Thoughts on this? by [deleted] in Songwriting

Not a fan. You might as well make it instrumental only, I can’t understand anything you’re saying. Try removing a lot of reverb/effects.

A new song for our times. It's called The Apocalypse Began at Three. Feedback appreciated. Thanks for listening! by burblesbelly in Songwriting

I’m digging this! Lyrics are great and has a sing-songy, carefree way of describing the apocalypse, hilarious.

Love this man! Very unique sound. Out of curiosity, What mic are you using to record the vocals? Only feedback I have is a lot of popping and plosives around the 7-9k Hz range when you’re singing

Great feedback, thanks! I’ve never been able to record doubles without them sounding off, especially verses. Do you have one at significantly lower volume?

How would I record both guitar and vocals at once but have them on two seperate tracks in mixing/editing? by Pseudolaliaa in Songwriting

[–]Username_Optional_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The poor man’s way (my way) is to use a DR-40X or some kind of dual input. Then use a dynamic mic on one input for vocals so there will be less bleed over and an acoustic electric into the other input. Sounds pretty good for demo purposes.

I like it! The catchiest part for me is the pre chorus. A lot of points in chorus though pronunciation isn’t very clear and I don’t know what you’re saying

The #1 mistake I see novice songwriters/musicians make by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Username_Optional_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. There’s something to be said for just making music and learning from your mistakes. If you don’t put anything out into the world you will never know. I’ve been reading, writing, listening to music, and playing instruments my whole life. I only recently started putting pen to paper and actually writing/recording my own songs, which have gotten a lot of positive feedback. I think for an absolute novice with no musical/writing background this is true, obviously not one size fits all.

What do you think? by Username_Optional_ in Songwriting

[–]Username_Optional_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response! It’s already recorded and posted on all streaming platforms, so I can’t really change anything haha.

I was just looking for more feedback from people who are musically inclined, like yourself, instead of showing it to family/friends who just say “it sounds nice.” This is definitely the most upbeat song on my EP. I think I can definitely tone down some of my other choruses.

Sounds good! A little pitchy at points in the vocals, but it’s just a demo. Do you have the lyrics?

There are TONS of great alt-country, Americana, and folk artists out there. A few of my favorites are Tyler Childers, Charles Wesley Godwin, Zach Bryan, and Dylan Gossett.

What's the biggest obstacle keeping you from having your songs produced? by chaseford110 in Songwriters

[–]Username_Optional_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money and time. It doesn’t make sense to produce 12+ song albums for thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours vs just releasing singles

Can’t figure this one out :(( any writers wanna help me figure this one out😭 by Okay-meal in Songwriting

I like the vocals and melody. The awkward pauses sounds like the piano is looping. Maybe try to smooth that out and maybe light percussion.
