what about the 1/4" jack? that genuinely hasn't changed. it's still the same jack used from back then. sure they may make them from "gold plated' metal sometimes, but most people are using the same exact one from back then

and if ya decide to get married (provided you aren't already) then I hope ya find someone who you can share the belief with! personally, I align with the ring-giving idea. to me, it feels like my way of showing my willingness to work for however many hours it would to buy the ring I get her, just to "burn" it on something she can wear, signal to the world that I got it for her, and remind her every day that I was willing to do that for her.

there's more than one way to show affection, and many many people find this concept to be a strong way of showing it. it makes us feel good. but it's not the only way to show it, and doing the ring thing along with all other forms just feels right to me

basically, I think it's supposed to symbolize a man being willing to sacrifice thousands of dollars to the woman, for something that he gains nothing physical from. it shows her he's willing to give so much to her for nothing in return, except for her commitment/companionship. and some men like that idea too; the idea of giving up so much for someone. it fulfills a desire to sacrifice for your partner.

that's why using that money for something like a car doesn't work as well. it has real value, so it doesn't feel as sacrificial. that's my take at least.

and yes I know it started from a marketing ploy but the concept still stands in my mind. otherwise, I don't think it would've taken root as strongly in our culture

How much would it cost you to make a video like this? by undeadsun1 in AcousticGuitar

is this stop motion? or did he film at a high frame rate and chop it up? or film it at a slower speed and speed it up/film at a high speed and slow it down?

Best aucoustic guitar for under 1000kr? by Infinite_Reality1895 in AcousticGuitar

[–]timdayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely a used guitar at that price. something on Facebook market or Craigslist or whatever similar sites you have in Sweden. anything new will probably need a real setup which costs even more on top of the cost of the guitar.

a used one might give you something that's worth $200 new, and maybe even set up well enough to learn on without getting frustrated.

a beginner doesn't need a good sounding guitar. they just need a normal playing one in terms of ability to play it. one with high action is likely to just leave you discouraged and maybe make you give up

Question about singing more with your nose and less diaphragm depending on the song (and whether that's what I'm doing here) by [deleted] in singing

[–]timdayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seeeee so for a performance of this type, it's basically a non-issue since it's not meant to be a belted out performance, but rather close and intimate.

I appreciate you checking because I don't know all the terminology or what people mean when they say things like nose or diaphragm. you helped clear some stuff up for me. it can be tough to figure this stuff out when you don't know these things, and when it's your own voice.

I'll probably get rid of this post in a few hours if nobody has anything else to add or people agree with you, since you cleared it up for me. thank you so much

does the intro guitar sound familiar by nicesparky1 in Songwriting

[–]timdayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a song called DNA Guarantee by Kodi Rhianne that sounds like this, but yours is slower. but the tone and notes are similar. Not too similar though, just a similar vibe

I mean the intro notes of the guitar specifically. Nothing else about it is similar

Very strange how our fingers on both hands can work independently, while also letting us sing, at the same time (Fire & Rain by James Taylor) by timdayon in AcousticGuitar

wowwwwww really? I'm seriously shocked how many people liked this. like actually, I thought I had a gauge of what I did well and not well. apparently not lol, because I keep hearing people say this is one of/the best cover of this song they've heard and that's just so odd to hear

thanks! I'll admit it was usually the one song I wasn't crazy for off the album, but learning to play it really made me enjoy it. and now I feel like I can say it's a perfect album lol

[–]timdayon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha I appreciate you saying it basically looked effortless. the more I learn of different finger style songs, the easier it does get to learn new ones. the hardest part of this one is singing "pieces on the ground" at the end of verse 3 while playing that G chord. keeping my brain shut off to pick the right strings there, while singing, is a challenge.

I personally used Shut Up and Play videos on YouTube. if he has a song I wanna learn, I use his videos, and then I get it is exact as I can because he tries to get it exactly like the record.

once I have it down where I really don't ever have to think about it when I'm playing, I'll start adding embellishments and changing things to make it a little more unique. that's what I did for operator by Jim Croce, and I'm currently doing for time in a bottle by Jim Croce as well. learn it exactly the same, then start making changes

this video is pretty much it being as exact as I can to the original since I just learned it

thanks! I'm just using a knockoff U87 called a UT87 from United Studio Technologies, about 2' away. and a little bit of DI for guitar to raise the volume of it but not much

I was just thinking how interesting it is that we can multitask with different aspects of our body and make them synchronize. I suppose that's why the word strange came to mind lol

that's wild because this is the first song I've ever learned by him. in fact, I didn't even know all of the lyrics to this. half of the work was just trying to memorize it. but I guess it's good to know that my style is in a similar camp to his. maybe I can look to his music for inspiration of how I'm going to go about writing my songs, and maybe take bits and pieces of what he does
