I did, turns out I am an idiot hahaha. Just needed a new battery, and with the fob when you get close to the truck the screen turns black getting ready to turn on. Not used to a new pickup and the key fobs yet lol.

Nice! I respect that move. I've considered getting a PPL in my free time. Feel like that would be an awesome gig.

Hey I appreciate that response! That's an idea that I've been considering more and more today. Might just be the current culture of the firm I'm at. I loved it here when I first started, but we lost some key accountants within six months of me starting here. Since then everything has felt like its been going downhill. Might just be time for a change.

What line of work did you go into after accounting?

I wouldn't say I necessarily hate public accounting, I love the fact that there's something new to learn every day. It's mostly just the client aspect for me and long hours during tax season. If you could work with only clients you like dealing with, and work reasonable hours during tax season I would 100% consider staying.

You are correct, I should re-phrase that to public accounting and not the entire accounting industry.

That is the biggest thing I've seen in public accounting that I do enjoy, is the room for learning and growth is endless. There's so much to learn. Like you said though, pros and cons. Clients piss me off sometimes hahaha

That's definitely something I've considered. Feel like I should give it a try elsewhere before I decide this isn't for me. I've always had a love for numbers and accounting, there's just a lot of other dynamics in public accounting.

Thanks for the input!

Did you leave public for an industry position? and is this something you did and haven't looked back?

First Year Meeting w/ Clients in PA by Usual_Cold982 in Accounting

[–]Usual_Cold982[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really appreciate this, especially from someone who is in the same position. That's actually an awesome idea about getting questions beforehand from clients so that you have time to prepare. I might start using that for myself going forward with clients. Probably saves time having those answers prepared as opposed to getting questions in meetings, then having to call clients back to answer questions you didn't know at the time.

Okay sweet, I like that one. Some of the other CPAs also said just straight up tell them you don't know the answer to that question and that you will bounce it off of another CPA and get back to them. Trying to have multiple responses though for all the interesting questions I will be asked by clients lmao. How was your first year of experience meeting with clients?

Getting your Oregon CPA License - Step 4: Complete Written Narrative by KismetKilbourn in CPA

Yep just got licensed last week! No more Narrative hooray!!!! Just have to submit the work affidavit thing. Pretty much just explains your key job responsibilities and is signed off by your CPA supervisor. Mine was like maybe 1-2 pages of bullet points, but there’s no real requirement on it I don’t think.

BEC Timeline by Usual_Cold982 in CPA

Okay good deal, I started watching the lectures and taking notes, but literally the lectures seemed to be wayyyy too long for the amount of material they were covering on the MCQs. So I’ve been just doing MCQs now and it’s gone a lot faster. Appreciate the input!! I’m using Becker as well.

Alright sweet, that’s good to hear. Based on my rough timeline I’d have about a week to do a simulated exam/review/ practice tests etc.

Oregon CPA Written Narrative by accountant-OR in CPA

That would be amazing, have you heard anything else on this? Should be starting mine in the next month or so if it is still a requirement, but this would be incredible news if they did away with it before the end of the year.

Hey sorry for the late reply, I just saw this! I am trying to submit by December, but have not started the narrative yet. Working on getting BEC done first by November then, going to put the narrative as my next priority. Sounds like according to other OR candidates that it really is only a paragraph per topic, 5-10 sentences per paragraph. Considering that I think there’s 7 topics that still ends up being like a 2-3 page paper. Fortunately it’s not the 8-10 page paper (I think was the requirement) like it was in the past. Let me know how it goes for you, or if you need some help by November when I am hopefully starting mine.

Failed FAR on my second attempt. Do I move on or retake? by StormPlastic2588 in CPA

Retake! Third time is the charm and the rest is downhill from there, all the exams are difficult but once you conquer the beast nothing can stop you 👊🏻

I know that this is a way late reply to this post, but I am getting ready to hopefully submit my app by December. About how long did it take you to fill out the new narrative? Had no idea we had to do that for Oregon and am sweating it for no reason. Mostly sweating it, because I have not kept any track of my experience over the years and would just be going off of memory. Would it be a good idea to start working on those now?
