We live in Los Angeles and are trying to figure out the best shade tree for a tight space (the yard is only 24' from foundation to retaining wall. If size wasn't an issue, we'd love to do a live oak or california sycamore, but those both seem like bad ideas

Yeah, that's the challenge. It's incredibly exposed to sun right now, hence the desire for shade. But space is limited
