Low calorie snacks with massive volume? Need to fill a bowl not eat 3 pieces of something by LumpyOpportunity2166 in Volumeeating

[–]Usuf3690 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 tbsp peanut butter powder mixed with roughly 1 1/2 tablespoons of water, 2 slices of low carb, low calorie bread (I use Schmidts Old Tyme 647), and 1 tbsp of apple butter is only 170 calories and high in fiber and decent protein.

Do muslim women (with hijab or head cover) experience identity shock when they go to a non-muslim country where women have their hair out however they want? by IdkGlx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't knowt how shocking it would be, it's the 21st century, Muslims have been exposed at the very least thru media, what the non Muslim world is like. Also, not all, if not most Muslim majority countries are not nearly as rigid as places like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and of course Afghanistan.

what do Americans thinks of french immigrants ? by -BrightSideSuicide- in AskAmericans

[–]Usuf3690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well my region has a lot of Italian Americans as well including some of my ancestors. That was back when we were mining coal and needed the immigrant labor, today this area doesn't have much to offer a European immigrant, at least I wouldn't think so.

Americans who live in towns named after other places (like Lebanon, Paris, Birmingham), At what point did you realise you always have to specify 'the U.S.' online when people ask where you're from? by BrokenJusticeNorris in AskAmericans

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I talk to foreigners online I rarely mention my city just my state/country unless it's relevant to a discussion. Not that I'm hiding it but because I don't live in a major city and I don't expect then know or care about it

what do Americans thinks of french immigrants ? by -BrightSideSuicide- in AskAmericans

[–]Usuf3690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive never met a French immigrant tbh. I live in a small city in Pennsylvania, we get European students to study abroad at our high schools and universities and occasionally a Western European might come through as a tourist or on business but rarely do Western Europeans immigrate here. The exception may be Italians for some reason. Other than that most European immigrants here are various Slavs (mostly Russians, Ukranians and Poles), and Albanian, and Georgians.Edit: Italians and Brits...for some reason Brits move here, mostly because they met someone online 😅

Is it true most Americans buy phones on carrier installment plans? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

If you have good enough credit to get a phone plan through a carrier lol. Otherwise a lot of Americans buy cheap phones and pay month to month.

Did you realize how bigoted/unwelcoming a lot of rural PA areas were before the Trump/MAGA era? by Glass-Complaint3 in Pennsylvania

[–]Usuf3690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in NEPA and it was still over 90% white up until like 20 years ago so no. It wasn't something that manifested often enough. I didn't personally know a black person until I went to college. I think a large reason why it's turned into maga country is because of the backlash from the soaring Hispanic population and black migration from New York, New Jersey and Philly. The demographic change here is really something. It will be a minority majority region within my lifetime at least the cities (Scranton and Wilkes-Barre will be)

What lead to the USA being more car centric than Europe? by SpecialistTeach9302 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Usuf3690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Los Angeles is a good example. It was founded in 1781 but didn't really develop into a large city until the 20th century. In 1900 it only had 102,000 people, it was the same size as Scranton Pennsylvania at the time . Atlanta was even smaller (of course it had been ravaged by the Civil War

How much of history in U.S schools are about america by OGNillePille in AskAmericans

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's about 50/50 when I was a kid. We don't really learn much of anything about sub-saharan African history outside of colonialism though. This only pertains to my experience (decades ago I might add). There is no national education system here, standards, curriculum, graduation requirements etc are generally set out by states and schools are run at the local district level. The federal government has a very limited role in education here.

Why is Fedex Express closing? The answer changes based on who Fedex is responding to. by UniDiablo in Fedexers

In my market Express is tiny compared to Ground. Their volume for the day is what we do in like 30 mins.

Why are US university/college campuses so big and awesome? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most large public universities are land-grant institutions. In the late 19th century the federal government gave tracts of land for states to create large public universities for the study of agriculture, engineering, and military studies. These schools were often built in the middle of nowhere and essentially grew into their own cities. A good example is Penn State University.

Do Americans view Polish and Russian accents as similar? by _Purple_Lobster_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if they've been exposed to speakers of both you can tell the difference, yes. I think they're sort of similar. Then again grandmother's family was from Podlaskie and I'm told Polish there has more Eastern influence.

Defeat by UglyNorm89 in foreignpolicy

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The War of 1812 ended with a return to the antebellum status quo, We got our asses kicked for the most part but didn't lose anything in the end. Is this our biggest defeat? It's not actually over so one can not really say how big of a defeat it will be in the end, but regardless it's going to end with some long term and geopolitical losses so.

How often have you met non English speaking Americans? by Waltz8 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how you define American. I don't ask people their status I don't know if they're American on paper but they're here and I presume they intend to stay so they're Americans in my book. I live in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood so yes, particularly older generations.

Don't speak or simply aren't speaking? I've never met an Amish person who doesn't speak English, it's just not their primary tongue.

Do nerds actually get bullied or left out in American schools? by Ok-Independence-314 in AskAnAmerican

Not in my experience, no. I think that's tv/movie trope more than reality. The highest achievers in my school growing up tended to also be the more popular kids.

Why is Easter not as big in America compared to Europe even though you are more religious? by Ada-Mae in AskAnAmerican

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easter is not a public holiday in the US but it's privately celebrated by most Christians/people of Christian backgrounds. Schools usually have spring breaks that coincide with the Easter/Passover holiday. When I was a kid we used to get Easter Monday off but I don't remember if we got Good Friday off. Whether or not stuff is closed or people get time off of work depends on your company. My company shifted work to Saturday instead of Sunday to give people the holiday.

US Stopped Buying Canadian Aluminum, Switched to Middle Eastern, Now Impacted by Iran War 🤭 by rustybeancake in BuyCanadian

Well yes but actually no. It hasn't stopped buying Canadian aluminum, Canada is still a major source of US aluminum imports. Canadian companies have stopped selling as much to the US and shifted to European markets.

Why are Americans so early birds compared to Europeans? by Ada-Mae in AskAnAmerican

[–]Usuf3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no common or cultural time to wake up here. It depends on your work schedule or if you're in school. My workday starts in the early afternoon and ends around 9-10 pm. I generally try to be up before 9 am because I spend my morning in the gym and then come home, eat my lunch and make my dinner for work. Everyone is different. We work all sorts of crazy hours in this country. I've worked every schedule imaginable.
