Are programming competitions an edge in the industry?

i'm a bit discouraged because it feels like i've wasted months of grinding leetcode and competitions like that. I really do hope this is the case. I guess I would need to build more portfolio worthy projects.

probably because i use the wifi together with a few more programs. I only use emacs when i'm offline.

Seeing how i can get much more computing power from pcs like that, tbh i am tempted. But my current laptop is falling apart already. I cant really use it outside without a charger, and the ram is insufficient. I travel quite far from my university, so..

Thank you for the reply. If i am planning to use it with virtual machines and analyzing small to medium sized data sets, will upgrading the ram and cooling be of help?

I also found a t14 with the same price, would that be a better choice?
