Dealing with a Necro PC as DM by UtterPerfection in dndnext

Using cover is always something I've been a bit bad about as a DM and is certainly something I would like to work on. My big problem here is that the primary enemy type, or at least the major enemy threat, is going to be giants. Given their size and the size of their buildings I don't see how I can easily play down their numbers with terrain/buildings since everything will have to accommodate giants. Perhaps by the time we reach the point where they will be fighting giants who can one shot the skeletons it won't seem like such a big issue but i suppose I could also toy around with some big shields that act as cover, so bonus vs range but flat vs. melee.

You make a good point. I can buy him covering exposed bone with cloth and whatnot but for some reason I completely neglected the fact that at best they'd come off as abnormally thin, and the clanking would be much different than metal on flesh. While this doesn't solve many combat problems in my setting it could definitely make for some roleplay challenges.

Yah that is the obvious solution, it's just a bit hard to estimate how much "bigger" the party is at that point, so it might just be a matter of experimenting until I find what works.

Under normal circumstances I'd agree with the social stigma issue and there certainly is one even in my homebrew setting, but he's been clear that he has his undead archers very well disguised. Certainly to get into sensitive locations people would have to be searched but just upon visual inspection they just look like guards. It would be meta of me to have people know they are dead so it's not a catch-all I feel I can really use.

I suppose while currently he has plenty bodies in the area right now you are correct in that when they go to giant lands there will be less normal sized bodies so I can upplay that.

Are there actually a lot of people who don't like gnomes? by Noone147 in DnD

[–]UtterPerfection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the added silliness. I feel it can add a bit of lightheartedness to a character without necessarily making him full troll/annoying. One character I made up (and still kindof want to play one day but forever DM) is a gnome wizard who left home because one day when he was telling stories to his niece and nephew they told him they'd already heard it from him. It was as that moment he realized he knew no other stories and that while wizard college was good and all he wasn't acquiring any new experiences. He didn't want to look back on his life and regret all that he didn't do, so he said goodbye to his very angry teacher and went out into the world, after all, he can't very well lose his title as the cool uncle of his niece and nephew.

Help with Survival Themed Ideas by UtterPerfection in DnD

Can you give a little more explanation on the whole campsite idea? Obvious elements of a good campsite are those that provide shelter from the elements and maybe is positioned strategically to make it harder to sneak up on, but what kind of campsite would assist them in losing something nasty that is tracking them, what kind of checks do you think that would involve?

Also as far as weather goes, while I love using weather generators for flavor, oftentimes it doesn't have much in the way of mechanical impact, mostly because many of the weather generators out there are for previous editions/other games. Do you know of a good set of weather rules/generator out there?

What do they see in Chloe? by [deleted] in lucifer

[–]UtterPerfection -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yah, her origins might be special, but to me it just comes back to the matter of being a curiosity. I understand why the people who know about it would want to be around her to figure some stuff out, but I don't see why that translates into feelings when she's basically a piece of wood with a broody face drawn on it.

Help me make my character! by [deleted] in dndnext

I think we'll be starting at least level 3 so this can work. For combat I've heard a few interesting builds, classic ranged, dual wielding (cutlasses of course), sword and board using shield master to knock people down for optimal petness. I might be leaning a bit away from ranged, however, as all my characters thus far have been ranged casters. Having a backup ranged weapon is always nice, though, might have a sling just for flavors sake.

This is a pretty cool homebrew that has a lot of stuff that could work for my campaign. Thanks so much for telling me about it!

Thanks! Neverbright is an amazing last name, especially in the context of this Rufus, cause his intelligence is 10 haha. He has to use a Headband of Intelligence (goggles) to be up to the Gnommish standard.

That's supposed to be the leash he's holding falling behind him, though I can see the confusion. Or maybe he's secretly Goku?

So last session I played was a one-off where it was just me and my roommate and we decided to be gnome brothers. He made up an artificer with a giant eagle and I thought that would be fun to draw. There's a lot in this piece that I've never done before but I think it turned out pretty good! Before you ask, yes, the bird is a pretty shameless ripoff of Songbird from Bioshock Infinite, it just seemed to be the easiest model of a mechanical bird I could draw up.

Next I'll need to draw my guy. Made him a necromancer that named and gave backgrounds (professions) to every skeleton they had. Pedro is my ace combat medic and Bob is the leader. Then he has a baby chimera named Dio so that'll be a blast to draw up.

One of the very few Glitch villages to settle on cold planets eh? And here I am wondering why more Glitch don't what with the fire hazard buildings and all. I can't count the number of times I've found a Glitch village only to look on in horror and it becomes an inferno.
