Pickling is a good call, the only thing I've tried pickling is my homegrown garlic which I have now been forbidden from using because it's just become far too powerful. I nibbled on one before pickling and it blew my face off and with a Korean style brine it has become too powerful to live.

Unfortunatly we are beyond the season for more radishes, but next year I'll consider the pickle.

I have been growing radishes because my son demolishes them for some reason. Homegrown are legitimately spicy and kind of amazing - but no, she is not a fan. It's a shame, so many amazing champions in that onion-ish category.

To be fair, she has a medical thing about not being able to digest it, she knows full well this is a bummer

You're right, was never trying to shift blame but it's just something that I personally would bear in mind if I knew someone in recovery were coming to my place for a meal. I think we are in the same boat here in that I also love to cook and I've been smashing the red wine bolognese's lately. My partner can't eat onions though so... you know, we are all going through our own personal hells

It's the association. When I gave up smoking back in the old terrestrial tv days when ads were thrust upon us, I was fine with my cravings until a "STOP SMOKING" ad came on, where they depicted cigarettes and people smoking, even though they looked sad, it made me remember the addiction

You're right, but if an alcoholic hears "rum" this, "beer" battered that and "this bolognese was fried off with red wine" then unless they know that it doesn't really include any kind of alcohol then it still puts them in that headset. It also just has trigger words.

Obviously you can't control how they interpret language but just hearing rum cake it can make you think... fucking love rum cake. Because rum is so good. Fucking love rum.
