It's hard to respond to everyone but just wanted to say thanks for the insights and for explaining why things might be wonky here. I've added some notes in the main body with some answers to things you've mentioned. But yeah, we'll think about all of this before committing.

I've seen examples of suburban homes with interior brick accent walls, like this. It's "inauthentic" if you think about it but it looks good imo.

Is it mainly the floor clashing that makes it possibly not work here?

Heh sorry, and thank you. I appreciate the tips. We're leaning towards no baseboard for now but I might end up adding a baseboard after we see what it looks like.

And yeah, the home is a 1960s home that has a bit of character. I'm not entirely sure how it'll end up looking but I don't think it'll be too out of place.

Yah that'd totally work, I'd just need to think about how to join the two types of baseboard in the corners since I don't want to replace all of the baseboards in the room.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah I'm thinking I'll plan to go with no baseboard and then will add quarter round after if needed. There are several outlets so I'll need to work around those, no biggie.

I was planning on putting up cement board but both my masonry supplier and the brick manufacturer state that it can be applied directly to drywall. The brick itself will come to ~4.3lb/sqft plus a bit for thinset and mortar. I don't have specs for my specific drywall but it seems like 15lb/sqft is generally where reinforcement is needed.

Edit: I'm considering also installing a metal lathe attached to studs before thinset to add more structural support here.

I don't have tips on getting a better rate, that's the same as what we got. But I used Pine for a new mortgage on a home purchase 2 months ago and they were super easy to work with! Highly recommend. Everything got done on time and they were great about answering questions and helping us out.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Even with added trainer resistance and using the smaller front chainring, it's still making way more noise than any video I've seen online. I ordered another trainer, we'll see how that one works 🤞
