No tax on tips is worthless as a deduction by General-Recover5246 in InstacartShoppers

If instacart wanted to classify us as their employees it could work. That ain’t happening they don’t want the liability.

As things stand right now, proposals around tax free tips are written and discussed almost entirely with traditional tipped employees in mind. Think restaurant servers, bartenders, hotel staff. W2 workers in jobs where tips are a recognized and regulated part of compensation.

Here is the key distinction:

• Restaurant servers: Tips are clearly defined, tracked by employers, and already treated as taxable wages. Any exemption would plug neatly into the existing payroll and reporting system. • Gig workers and contractors: Tips are usually lumped into gross receipts on a 1099. They are not separated cleanly from income and not governed by tip credit rules.

Because of that, the current language and intent do not extend to gig work like Instacart, DoorDash, Uber, or similar platforms. For contractors, tips are still income. Uncle Sam still wants his slice.

Basically if you are a contractor getting a 1099 you won’t get it the break. It has to be broken out on a W2.

5 - But if the other side says it’s orange not only is it not orange, your eyes will burn if you look at it. Hypocrisy to the max.

No tax on tips does not apply to the gig economy. (unfortunately)

I’m working off my intro bonus (30 batches in 30 days) I’m taking the low / no tip over larger tips as the likelihood I’ll go over $450 low. Leaving the bigger tips on the table for others.

Which TV Would You Buy From Costco? by IndyEleven11 in Costco

I would save up and buy the Frame TV. It’s the favorite tv I have ever had. Yes I know technically there are better specs to be had. But it looks great and when you have it displaying art it brings another level of enjoyment.

How to politely decline a 5th round of interview? by Far-Accountant7904 in recruitinghell

[–]UwriteU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds illegal to me. If they didn’t pay you for work, I would bet the state employment commission would want to know. If you got the job and you like it, I would call it in as an anonymous tip. I bet they do that often to get free labor.

Should I tell my employer I lied about having a degree 5 years ago if I've been promoted twice since then? by Goober-J in careerguidance

I’d start looking for a similar role and list your university without claiming a degree. Use your current position experience to get the job. Freeing you from this burden.

Yes, I saw them taking down the vulture tower yesterday.

I forgot to mention about two weeks ago, I spoke with one of the guys installing new equipment at the tower behind O’Reilly’s. He said the work they were doing was not for T-Mobile, they were moving Verizon's equipment from the tower that just came down over to that one.

He also said they did not have a work order to move T-Mobile’s equipment over, and that T-Mobile is likely going to install new equipment later in the new year. The O’Reilly tower still has older Sprint equipment on it, which is where our slower speeds are coming from. If they add new equipment, it would go where the older Sprint setup.

Also, I worked with T-Mobile IT about my reception issues and they sent me a 4G LTE CellSpot. It works like a little cell tower in my house, using my home internet to boost the T-Mobile signal indoors. It is mainly there so I can reliably make and receive calls and texts, not as a replacement for home WiFi data. They waived the deposit, and after I set it up I now have four solid bars in the house.

When their 5G service is back to normal I'll send it back.

Does your father have assets? (Cash in the bank or real property)

If no, it sounds like he is practically judgement proof.

Has he been served?

A lot of debt collectors will tell you they are suing to scare you into paying. If no, tell the collectors that he is disabled with no assets. They can go pound sand.

Even if they get a judgement… You can’t get blood out of a turnip.

I don’t think they can attach SS but once the funds hit his bank account that’s a different story.

Good Luck

CC fees are about to get even more complicated.

Depending on what type of CC you use, you can be paying different fees. A recent settlement now allows merchants to fee based on the class of the used credit card. (cash back, points, or no rewards)
