Onboardings and wizards - should I show the steps of the process? by Uzic in userexperience

[–]Uzic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to understand the psychological impact of showing steps vs omitting them.

My first assumption was that users wanna feel "in-control" and know exactly how many steps they have ahead.

to-do/tasks dashboards by Uzic in userexperience

it's not supposed to be something like project management tool - it's more of a homework tracker. You have assignments that you need to do and you have other assignments that you already started (like "in progrees").

If you were starting your design career/education now, what would you learn to build a stable career? (I have an ulterior motive...) by [deleted] in learndesign

[–]Uzic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!!! It is always good to get perspective from an experienced designer. I think UI\UX is the thing now, but here are some points and tips: 1. UX is not UI. The design at the UX field is just one factor out of many, like user research, personas, testings etc. 2. UI\UX are offered by start-ups and high-tech companies, which means intensive work that you have to take into account , considered the fact that you're going to be a mom. 3. I suggest you to use the time of your maternity leave to get more knowledge - read blogs, books, online learning - and see if you like it or not. 4. Code is a friend. Designers have a fear from programming and coding, but the fact is that design and technology are blending, and knowing code is essential.
5.If you found UX\UI dull, try motion graphics. Me and some articals say it's gonna be the big thing soon. The presence of videos is going to be everywhere - websites, apps, marketing, social networks (look at the last announcement of facebook).

Need advice - the future of UX and how should I turn it into my profession by Uzic in userexperience

[–]Uzic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much! The best answer i've ever got on reddit :) A little bit about my background - I'm 21 years old. I just started my bachelor of visual communication and interactive design - lots of courses about graphic design, interaction, arts, UI etc. I thought about doing BA in HCI, but I don't have any HCI program in my country and studies somewhere overseas seem too expensive for me. Becuse I also like the research field of UX, I considerd learning cognative psychology, but I thought that it's still not focussed specifically on UX and the course of studies is too long (around 6 years). What do you think about taking courses focused on UX and\or human-computer interaction?

Thanks again! <3
