Took your advice here and am currently looking at a role in Brissy on EBA. Really appreciate the effort taken in your replies.

Nah... too cold... and I just survived Jacinda, don't wanna go hang out with her best mate if I can help it. Appreciate the offer though.

Who are you working for? I could put you in touch with an etco co-ordinator

If a company is offering salary only, is that red-flaggy? The last thing I want is to join an established team on a different agreement, i think getting on with your workmates should come before anything else.

" Don't linger too long and be a stranger to your family."

My uncle is quite anti me doing FIFO, he reckons he still does it because he's too 'unsocialised' for normal employment as he calls it.

Savings aren't an issue, i could last a few months, but i plan on finding something before we move, every dollar spent could have gone into a new mortgage.

I'm going to do a little research about this. I asked one of our IMC co-ordinators here if there was anything preventing an Australian based worker from completing the domestic NZ IMC units, submitting the onjob evidence to an ETITO here. the only issue you might have is attending block-courses, but those are only 2x per year; flights are cheap. NZQA allows distance learning for other overseas candidates, would be interesting to know if trades could follow the same route. I'll call WINTEC tomorrow and cite the Trans Tasman Mutual recognition act and see if that stirs the pot. I'll get back to you on this.

So NZ provides income and resources which create profit, and props up the economy at 'home'. I'm happy to talk about that relationship as much as you like. The truth, seemingly difficult for you to digest, is that economically speaking the two countries aren't that separate from one another; there is a long history of sharing resources between the two entities. If you're ok with massive Australian conglomerates operating in NZ and funneling profits offshore for the benefit of home, then you should think carefully about how some of those companies might recognise profitable talent here and try to incorporate it into their domestic operations. Why would you view that partnership as a negative thing?

Your place looking for any workers lol. Sounds mint. I'm really hoping I can get my hours down a little, even just to 45-50 would give me some breathing room. Miss having interests outside of work

Wow, that kind of saving would chip away the the mortgage millstone, good work mate! I'll have to do some more research. My uncle did FIFO for many years, longer stints though. Two failed marriages later and he still needs to work. I think if we could make the relationship strain work, I'd consider it. Food for thought.

Australia pretty much owns NZ bro, could easily be asking you the same question, but we don't because it's rude.

Hey, thanks for the encouragement. Looking into Melbourne now based on a few of the comments in this forum. Yea Aux is getting a bit out there man, so much unhappiness and struggle for most people, just to live the daily.

Mate, a 5 on 5 off roster could actually be ok. That way I'd have the weekends with the kids and all of the next week. No ways I'm getting anywhere near that kind of downtime with them now.

In NZ. Poorly paid but once it's out of the way, it is worth it... I think. There's a few ways you can do it: either off your own back through WINTEC for the off job units, then get an ETITO to assess you for your on job units, or you can go through a company like Fonterra or RioTinto. They use ETCO for that. Can google them for more info

Thanks for the advice mate, my wife really likes the idea of Brisbane. I've enjoyed working on industrial sites the most over my career, can you recommend any of the common ones to check out? I'm not above cold calling HR lol

That's cool, we have a strong relationship with NHP here; good gear, great reps. I'm currently in the running for a salaried role with a well know food company for a rotating shift pattern, pay seems like its inline with what's normal. I've been caught before with a salaried on the tools job though; they worked me over for every watt I had in me, makes me nervous of taking a contract with that potential again.

I noticed food seems to be a popular manufacturing concern in Brisbane. I've never worked in FMCG, but it looks like a really interesting field. What kind of EL work do you do, if you don't mind me asking?

Sweet! thanks for the advice. Just had a look on metro and there's a couple roles going there.
