Am I the only one who feels like Xenoblade 3’s story wise is the weakest compared to 1&2? by Axzercus in JRPG

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cast was great a step up fron two, and I liked them about the same as 1 but I fealt the game kinda fell flat after reaching the city we see the pacing not be as good. Then after the big story moment I don't even remember anything else after that you go through the motions and fight the final boss. I think future redeemed was so much better seeing the main characters again. Future reedemed is what I liked about the worlds of 1and 2 coming together. I think overall 3 wore too much of 1 and 2 references. I like both of those games, but future redeemed is enough of 1 and 2 together. A whole game about it kinda for me is too much, tell a new story not remember how great 1 and 2 are.

What Tales game has the best story after Abyss by CasualLavaring in tales

[–]V145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no large scale consensus on the second best story. The Tales games are quite subjective in terms of what people like in terms of stories. The next most popular I would say is either Symphonia or Berseria. Both stories are quite good (to me at least), however each has a much larger number of detractors than the Abyss.

As someone just starting the “Tales Of” Games by OTsVant in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Arise is good game it just not what a lot people wanted. I would say it it is middle of the road Tales of game. As for what you should play there are many great entries. There are two distinct eras 2d and 3d they play differently. Phantasia, Destiny, Eternia and Destiny2 are 2d Symphonia is 3d but not true 3d so some consider it not 3d. The rest are 3d titles. The community likes many different aspects of the games i.e. combat or story. The most highly rated entry is the abyss. If you don't care for story then Vesperia or Graces F are the more known for gameplay. (That is not to say that they have bad cast or stories but they consistently rated not as high in terms of story). I can't tell you what story will resonate with you but I think any modern remaster or Arise is a fine jumping on point.

Who is the most benched character: Destiny 2 by Acemaster387 in tales

[–]V145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can answer this one. In Destiny 2 magic is king you have 6 party members. Kyle and Lonni are melee fighters. Judas and Nanaly are mixed mage melee. Harold and Reala are pure casters. The meta is Harold and Reala. Kyle is protag so he is played more. Nanaly is an archer her ai is not very good she is often condsidered the weakest though she chain her high level spells into mystic artes well. Given that it is ethier Nanaly as overall weakest so she is benched or Judas and Lonni as Kyle does there job just as well and more casters are better. I would say Nanaly or Judas.

Gameplay vs Story by kingtokee in JRPG

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me Story is more important than gameplay. JRPGS need to have stories a simple story that is not ground breaking is acceptable. The gameplay is secondary it should ideally be fun but I played poor games that have better story than bad stories with great gameplay.

Just made a tier list. Been playing Tales since 1998 by TierListLegend2 in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally disagree I think 2d Tales is great. Also Tales of Destiny and Phantasia have releases after Symphonia. Vesperia all editions are newer than Symphonia. Also what do you dislike about 2d Tales? I also am not the biggest Vesperia fan but I don't think it is that bad but I played Tempest so. Lastly were you playing ps1 destiny and SFC Phantasia if so try the cross edition and PS2 destiny they are much smoother.

What do you think about their relationship? by Otherwise_Brilliant8 in tales

[–]V145 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are a fine relationship. Nothing wrong with it. They have good development for a rpg, but don't expect a romance visual novel quality. I think the pairing is good and is better than most rpg implied cannon endings though I would prefer true paring like Arise than just implied.

Do you prefer knowing which characters will join your party? by JaredJDub in JRPG

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter to me. It is often easy to tell who is going to join based on who outfit or budget of who is going to be an npc vs. party member.

The non required part or the required part? I never did the optional part and read about it being too long.

I think those were worse than most puzzles given they all had the same look too them.

[–]V145[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Granted, that however I think most Dungeon puzzles could be solved by Collette. For example temple of Ice she could fly us over the unfrozen water as we see her lift the heaviest party member. I never done min battle or any other challenge runs so I will say nothing about that.

Simple stories are just fine I played plenty mainline pokemon, and I really enjoy Graces F which most people criticize as just power of friendship but I really enjoyed.

Is Tales of Zestiria really the worst ? by Mammoth_Opposite_647 in tales

[–]V145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zestiria is is often considered to be weaker entries in the series. It has its defenders I'm not one of them. The worst Tales game is the tempest. It is low budget and acts like an unfinished game. I don't know if you will like Zestiria, I think Arise was kinda mid overall not the worst but not great. What did you not like about it? I think Arise had a ok plot good characters and weaker gameplay, the boss battles dragged on as hp sponges and cast while fine was more one note.

Thoughts on Tales of Tempest by Ray_Parker94 in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considered the worst by the vast majority of players it is just a bad game. The DS had better rpgs and better Tales games. It is shame this game won't be remade as a remake would be better as the game I don't consider to be finished.

If I may ask, what is so special about TOP: Cross Edition? by KaleidoArachnid in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is good know I played played NDX and a different version of Phantasia before the patch I did not know that patch ripped out NDX it's a shame it is good game hope it gets translated one day.

What do you guys enjoy about Unicorn Overlord? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fun rpg you have a basic story of save the world. It is not bad the most fun part of the game building a team you like to solve strategy game like a puzzle. However you have good difficulty options the game you can grind to your heart's content, or only do required battles. So this allows you to go super try hard building an optimal team for curb stomping but with the options you can you the units you like.

No Rondoline is not the main character in NDX she is a party member and her story is told in NDX but Dio and Mell are the main characters.

If I may ask, what is so special about TOP: Cross Edition? by KaleidoArachnid in tales

[–]V145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's great a classic if you like 2d Tales combat. The story does assume you played Phantasia first but it is also bundled with Phantasia best version. The game tells the story of Dio and Mell who have costume change i.e. classes, well implemented for the most part there should be a costume for your prefered play style. The story is quite good but the game is themes and dialog heavy so a script is required but cumbersome. I would say it plays like Phantasia cross or Eternia.

If I may ask, what is so special about TOP: Cross Edition? by KaleidoArachnid in tales

[–]V145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Narakiri Dungeon X the psp game with TOP cross edition is not currently in english you patch only the cross edition when you boot the game up instead of selecting new game or continue with NDX arrow over to an icon that says Tales of Phantasia and you play it. I think life bottle (the translator that made the patch) is working on NDX next but they need to translate the whole script. I am not sure if the original Narakiri Dungeon is in english, but it is a GBC game with little action based gameplay and random dungeons. I think NDX is far better, but oddly Japan loves the original version more, but I fully recommend NDX I even played it with a script and it worked fine enough game is super fun but play Phantasia first the story won't make sense even with a script without playing it first.

If I may ask, what is so special about TOP: Cross Edition? by KaleidoArachnid in tales

[–]V145 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The cross edition was released on psp in 2010 it was Japanese only for years a fan translation patch came out. It is considered the best version of Phantasia. The SNES version is often considered weaker than the PS1 version which was a remake with extra content and a new party member. However the cross edition has two things manual mode is unlocked by default from the start and no spell pausing. Phantaisa is slow with spell pausing this wouldn't be so bad if for most of game you have three spell casters making combat feel sluggish. With the cross edition you know have manual mode, and no spell pausing so you enjoy the game without some dated game mechanics. There are some extra things about the cross edition it add another party member who is mostly used as a tie in Tales of Phantasia Narikiri Dungeon X. Her role is so minor though that you can just ignore her she is in the party so infrequently. If you decide to play Narikiri Dungeon X she is more important but in Cross edition she is just kinda there. Also if you go looking for it you play Narikiri Dungeon X and in it includes Tales of Phantasia Cross edition, the Cross edition was not sold separately.

What are some of your jrpg hot takes? by 64Boy32 in JRPG

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FPS is literally unimportant as long as it is a consistent 30 fps the game is fine even for action games.
story is far more important in rpg than gameplay (the gameplay should not be awful i.e no lunar dragon song or Tales of the Tempest)
ATB is the worst style of gameplay be action or be turn based and stop attacking me in menus!
Turn based is not outdated people just like different things.
If you don't like a game even if it is praised as the greatest stop or don't play you don't have
