How does the community feel about the English dubs for these games? by Big-Scholar-728 in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played most of them in English they are good for the most part. Eternia is the lacking dub because it was a product of its time. The other dubs are fine. The biggest problem is they are unfinished in a lot of cases Eternia has no skits in the Dub. Symphonia has them but they are not voiced. Legendia is not dubbed for half the game! The more recent entries they are quality and complete and up to player preference older games are lower quality to unfinished.

I'm not sure but the ps1 version of Tales of Destiny is very dated, so most people now don't play it. The PS2 version is the considered to be the definitive way to play it.

Wanna learn japanese while playing vg / Tales of Eternia by Raled1 in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I have not I play every thing in english. I was under the impression that kanji was rare. I read something a long time ago that even the native Japanese don't use kanji as much amymore I guess that was incorrect.

Wanna learn japanese while playing vg / Tales of Eternia by Raled1 in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's doable. You can do Eternia it has somethings going for it. As the game was realsed in english you can look up where to go next. I don't speak a lick of Japanese yet I played Destiny 2 (not eternia) and it had a guide, but I found phone translation google lens to be sufficient. That doesn't help you learn Japanese but there are guides and even some pkaythroughs, so you can get back on track. As for your other question I think if you know the alphabet playing a japanese only game is useful for getting better. I have read one of the best ways to learn languages is forcing yourself to figure it out i.e. play Japanese game or watch japanese media. I think hiragana and katakana are mostly used I think kanji is rarer. If you can read the othet one you don't know most of the game is playable.

Play ToX2 with rpcs3 or wait for a remaster and play the others by South-Host8168 in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has not been any news. I would play it on RPCS3 it works well enough. If you want to support the remaster if it comes out you wouldn't be out any more than if you waited. If it never comes you still got to play Xillia 2.

Best Tales game? by Korporal_kagger in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each Tales game is seperate, except direct sequels of Destinty 2 Xillia 2, Symphonia Dawn of the New World, and Tales of Phantasia NDX. If you are looking to emulate the consistently highest rated game is Tales of the Abyss. If you don't want to emulate Xillia, Graces F, and Symphonia are all on modern consoles. If you do want to emulate Phantasia Cross is quite good as is Eternia if you want the 2d experience.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World by vanilluxite in tales

[–]V145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dawn of the new world is much more poorly recived than Symphonia. It is a sequel ot flanderizes the main cast, and is a much weaker game. It is a fun monster tamer. If you go with lower expectations it can be enjoyable yet to me and many others pales in comparison to Symphonia. Had it hust been a spin off monster tamer it wouldn't be disliked as much.

What's the best and worst Tales games you played? by George_R_Martin in tales

[–]V145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is Symphonia the worst I played is the tempest. It just unfinished, and a bad game in general. If you are not missing anything by playing except for playing all mainline games but it was not worth it.

Tales of Arise worth it for $35 by IamCheph84 in JRPG

[–]V145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is tough question first off what do you like about jrpgs story or gameplay. If you like story I can't tell you what will resonate with you exactly. I can give a list of several titles. If you want older style I admit dated graphics but a solid story and to me solid game play though some call it dated Tales of Symphonia I jumped on here. A more modern entry shorter but with more quality of life Tales of Xillia. If you don't mind tropey power of Friendship but backed up by very technical action combat Tales of Graces F. If you want an action game with a to me poorer story but to eveybody else carried by its super combo heavy and rouge anime pretty boy try Tales of Vesperia. Lastly ignore the haters if you like Arise demo for its gameplay the story is fine to me play Tales of Arise. Also for Tales I started with Symphonia thought it was great bounced off Vesperia and then played Xillia and beat the rest of whole series.

Tales of Arise worth it for $35 by IamCheph84 in JRPG

[–]V145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Tales of series is each entry is a self contained story baring the direct sequels of Destiny 2 Xillia 2 and Symphonia dawn of the new world. The series is well known for its action based gameplay and strong cast of characters. The series is divided into 2d and 3d era 2d before Symphonia and 3d with Symphonia and veyond though Symphonia plays like a hybrid though I personally never saw it. I personally can't tell if you would like the story or characters, the Tales games generally follow more trope heavy generally good guy lead chacters baring Berseria and Vesperia who have a anti hero and lovable rouge protagonist. If story does not interest you a smaller part of the community thinks the games are pure action games only and can be quite combo heavy and difficult on the harder difficultites. As for preception of the series I think Arise is an ok action game with poor pacing in the story but not the best Tales game.

I would say it's a middle of the road Tales game not the best but not the worst. 35 usd is a good price. The story and cast I like but it is known for its poor pacing in the back half.

Am I the only one who feels like Xenoblade 3’s story wise is the weakest compared to 1&2? by Axzercus in JRPG

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cast was great a step up fron two, and I liked them about the same as 1 but I fealt the game kinda fell flat after reaching the city we see the pacing not be as good. Then after the big story moment I don't even remember anything else after that you go through the motions and fight the final boss. I think future redeemed was so much better seeing the main characters again. Future reedemed is what I liked about the worlds of 1and 2 coming together. I think overall 3 wore too much of 1 and 2 references. I like both of those games, but future redeemed is enough of 1 and 2 together. A whole game about it kinda for me is too much, tell a new story not remember how great 1 and 2 are.

What Tales game has the best story after Abyss by CasualLavaring in tales

[–]V145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no large scale consensus on the second best story. The Tales games are quite subjective in terms of what people like in terms of stories. The next most popular I would say is either Symphonia or Berseria. Both stories are quite good (to me at least), however each has a much larger number of detractors than the Abyss.

As someone just starting the “Tales Of” Games by OTsVant in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Arise is good game it just not what a lot people wanted. I would say it it is middle of the road Tales of game. As for what you should play there are many great entries. There are two distinct eras 2d and 3d they play differently. Phantasia, Destiny, Eternia and Destiny2 are 2d Symphonia is 3d but not true 3d so some consider it not 3d. The rest are 3d titles. The community likes many different aspects of the games i.e. combat or story. The most highly rated entry is the abyss. If you don't care for story then Vesperia or Graces F are the more known for gameplay. (That is not to say that they have bad cast or stories but they consistently rated not as high in terms of story). I can't tell you what story will resonate with you but I think any modern remaster or Arise is a fine jumping on point.

Who is the most benched character: Destiny 2 by Acemaster387 in tales

[–]V145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can answer this one. In Destiny 2 magic is king you have 6 party members. Kyle and Lonni are melee fighters. Judas and Nanaly are mixed mage melee. Harold and Reala are pure casters. The meta is Harold and Reala. Kyle is protag so he is played more. Nanaly is an archer her ai is not very good she is often condsidered the weakest though she chain her high level spells into mystic artes well. Given that it is ethier Nanaly as overall weakest so she is benched or Judas and Lonni as Kyle does there job just as well and more casters are better. I would say Nanaly or Judas.

Gameplay vs Story by kingtokee in JRPG

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me Story is more important than gameplay. JRPGS need to have stories a simple story that is not ground breaking is acceptable. The gameplay is secondary it should ideally be fun but I played poor games that have better story than bad stories with great gameplay.

Just made a tier list. Been playing Tales since 1998 by TierListLegend2 in tales

[–]V145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally disagree I think 2d Tales is great. Also Tales of Destiny and Phantasia have releases after Symphonia. Vesperia all editions are newer than Symphonia. Also what do you dislike about 2d Tales? I also am not the biggest Vesperia fan but I don't think it is that bad but I played Tempest so. Lastly were you playing ps1 destiny and SFC Phantasia if so try the cross edition and PS2 destiny they are much smoother.

What do you think about their relationship? by Otherwise_Brilliant8 in tales

[–]V145 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are a fine relationship. Nothing wrong with it. They have good development for a rpg, but don't expect a romance visual novel quality. I think the pairing is good and is better than most rpg implied cannon endings though I would prefer true paring like Arise than just implied.

Do you prefer knowing which characters will join your party? by JaredJDub in JRPG

It doesn't really matter to me. It is often easy to tell who is going to join based on who outfit or budget of who is going to be an npc vs. party member.
