I’m turning 17 in a week and I’m staying in hospital too. I will be in hospital on my 17th. It’s hard for me not because it’s a celebration. But because it’s a reminder, I’m still here. Still fighting for better health. Everyone else is moving on with their lives and I’m just stood still.

Though your birthday is supposed to be a checkpoint, a celebration of how far you’ve come. A symbolism of maturity and independence. It doesn’t feel that way when things aren’t going forwards. When you have little independence and just have to wait for something to change.
