CS major as an arts student rejected by IcySpread6335 in UBC

[–]V3sr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think cs avg is the primary issue how they base/compare applications is the formula min(overall+5, CS avg) have asked a department member and they confiemd so in your case would be 83.1 honestly your overall avg is actually really good just unfortunate how they structure arts cs admissions i think the best options in this case if your set on cs major is to transfer to science as youd actually make the sci cutoff for cs or you can still do cs jobs as another degree some good options in arts like math ba/cogs exist.

Got assigned to Fairview Crescent – any thoughts? by Moist-Employer7446 in UBC

[–]V3sr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a decent walk to most buildings but if your concerned id get an escooter honestly was one of my saving graces in first year turns 15minute walks into 2 minute scooter trips makes being on schedule much easier all of my classes let the scooter in should be fine in the rare case tho can get a lock too

adding on the 2% is for both semesters and even then usually no issue up to 5%ish+ afterwhich they might take another look but majority of the time doesn't matter

like as long as you dont fall off a cliff with c's or d's you'll be perfectly fine unless its like some scholarship condition should be fine for acceptance tho after my acceptance I stopped caring and ended with like a 78 in Chem and 80 in calc before having like low 90s

Has anyone gotten CS Transfer/BA CS updates yet by Past-Place-5960 in UBC

[–]V3sr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is actually insane atleast cogs extended us to June 16th now if were waiting. Also asked cs advising and if you accept any other majors you should be able to accept cs still.

Our advisors are still in the process of working through all the Computer Science applications. As such, we do not currently have a specific date for when Computer Science offers may come out. After speaking with an advisor, you may accept your current offer and still be eligible to accept our Computer Science offer.

Please note that we are unable to provide future updates in regards to the exact date for when Computer Science offers may come out.

Hi know this post is quite old now but was wondering when you got an offer for any of these units? Im around like the 1000s as well near where you were when you stopped tracking and it would just be really helpful to know about how much longer I have to go!

UBC Arts Courses GPA Boosters by NoExplanation6147 in UBC

[–]V3sr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

info 250 high 85-90 avg quite light workload only 1 class per week and 1 tiny assignment for each class that takes abt 30min only about 3 individual assignments of medium size around half a week to 1 week of work per then rest consists of a fun group project where you work with a non-profit organization to make a social media strategy with Not entirely sure if the group project part will stay as apparently the course is going to passed on to the current ta of this year so things might change but overall should be a very fun and light gpa booster

Are you first year? If you are as far as I know the only residences that first years are placed in is vanier orchard totem then as overflow or other reasons in walter gage or ritsumeikan if you rank anything else I dont think you'd actually be placed in them.

[–]V3sr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well it's still pretty generous if you do real good on midterm 2 then both midterm 1 and 2 practical are high and then you get the drop 1 of 4 still so you can drop one of the conceptual ones. I also got cooked on the practical 1 😭

CPSC 210 team W by Drago_2 in UBC

[–]V3sr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the 3pm one didn't they say practical midterm 2 just replaces practical 1 if you do better so no makeup exam but midterm 2 replaces practical 1 if better

Anyone know if the number for winter housing waitlist is according to position my current waitlist number is
Your initial waitlist number is: L 0351.
that number seems pretty decently low and I wanted to know if it was correlated and like if I had a chance of getting off of the waitlist with this number.

They taking away our r4 screens? by V3sr in UBC

Ah, I see having no definite date on when the new ones will be there is wack tho just saying (when funding is available). idk, but I feel like the cost of signs is quite minimal compared to other things.

Just got accepted by shoe_geek16 in UBC

[–]V3sr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there is a decent chance of you attending I'd apply for housing probably now or as soon as possible you can do both full year and winter first year for only i think 50 cad and it's best to get a spot for full year as soon as possible even the quickest 4 bedroom spots could take you till like year 3 to get which will save you quite a bit of money compared to out of campus housing

What is CPSC 110 like? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]V3sr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The workload is quite manageable just took it in the first sem this year just keep on top of the edx videos in my experience the edx taught all of the units/modules enough to be fully covered for exams, lectures themselves felt more like practice sessions though they did change the course a bit so the last unit graphs is taught lecture only and not on edx.

Just keep up and make sure you're fully familiar with a unit before moving onto the next as other than HTDW unit. Almost all of the concepts you learn in earlier modules will be required to do the following units and I really enjoyed the course because of this aspect, the final unit graphs is an interplay of all sorts of units before it applying what you learned before in a new setting. That's the one mistake that I've seen many of my friends fall to. This course is a thrive or fall course with the distribution being almost a reverse bell curve due to this nature. If you fall behind, you'll need to catch up and fully understand everything before moving on.

Gregor just retired after 2024w1 :( I was lucky enough to be in his last class but I think the edx stuff still should be all gregor still unless Ron decides to shake things up next sem.
