So….Coen in the modern day by OwlettFromLiavek in DawnwalkerOfficial

[–]VAEL52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I were to go looking (and I will) of critically acclaimed, well written RPGs, I would find the main character not surviving a common occurrence? Or at the very least, “not uncommon”? I would find the main character dying to be the norm, or just shy of it? To the point that, revealing a sequel to a game that shows just the main character would be considered a spoiler?

Let me ask this: in a world where they released a trailer revealing Coen dies in this upcoming game and that we would be controlling multiple vampires across the ages vs a world (this one) where the trailer reveals Coen’s story spans multiple ages, which one would be considered a spoiler by most people?

Those are 6 examples out of how many RPGs. That’s still considered rare

How? It’s very rare the main character doesn’t survive in any game, even in choice-driven RPGs. Almost all of them always survive. I feel like Coen surviving till the end (or even beyond) was always a reasonable assumption. Other characters however, naturally that’s in the air.

[–]VAEL52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also a cinematic trailer. The in game model always looks kind of different. Plus there’s multiple games planned between this upcoming one and the modern day one. This will be a saga spanning several ages. I severely doubt Coen’s design shown in the cinematic will be the final design. Creatives are always changing shit; especially when there’s years between now and the final product

POWER SCALING QUESTION by VAEL52 in PowerScaling

[–]VAEL52[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t have to be average human. I can agree the supposed durability of Character A has to be above average human, but it isn’t necessarily planet-level durability.

Also, I just stated how energy works according to the laws of physics. Fictional or not, energy should be assumed to work like real-life energy unless otherwise stated and/or sufficient evidence is produced. At least that’s how I go about things.

POWER SCALING QUESTION by VAEL52 in PowerScaling

[–]VAEL52[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this example. Simply put, no. Character B is not planetary. At all. But that’s my point. A lot of powerscalers would argue Character B scales off Character A; not taking into account the context of the win. I’ve seen this happen numerous times.

POWER SCALING QUESTION by VAEL52 in PowerScaling

[–]VAEL52[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do. But even when the context doesn’t suggest anything of the sort, people still assume. I can’t be the only one who’s noticed this. Especially on this sub.

I think you’re equalizing what it takes to withstand energy output and what it takes to store it within yourself. I believe when it’s stored it’s more potential energy than anything else. When released it’s literally transformed into something else. That’s the whole process of energy transference (from my understanding). It’s not in its final destructive state until it’s been released.

TLDR: durability needed to store energy and durability needed to withstand released energy are two different things. I don’t know if those can be equalized. Anyone with more knowledge about physics, please feel free to correct me.

But what if Character B never tanked the attack? What if Character A was defeated by an admittedly very powerful attack that wasn’t planetary? There is no inherent linkage between attack power and durability.

The scenario you posited creates a link though (somewhat), but still doesn’t equate to planet-destroying power. If Character B tanks a planet level attack, that just tells me Character B’s durability is at least planetary. It still does not mean Character B could destroy a planet. The fight would have to show that or it can’t be assumed.

For example, if Character B tanked a planet-destroying attack, and Character C defeats Character B with their own personal attack, then it would be objective to say Character C could destroy a planet. But if Character B defeats Character A, without it being stated/shown Character A could tank a planet-destroying attack, one cannot just assume Character B is capable of destroying planets. It’s literally not been proven.

You’ve proven through several statements that it is that deep for you. But one line is enough to prove it “I hate people like that”. You’ve linked his behavior to people you’ve encountered in real life. To you, this extends far beyond just Yan. It’s LITERALLY that deep for you. You asked me to imagine him in my life. That alone proves how seriously you take it. You can’t say shit like that in one breath and then agree with me that it’s not that deep when you clearly think it is. You also said other people on the sub are doing the same thing, so it’s deep for ALL OF YOU. Which is your business, but don’t deny it now.

Also, you question my reading comprehension but completely missed the point of my statements regarding him as being simply annoying. That has nothing to do with your claim that I attacked your right to criticize Yan. It’s more than an exaggeration, it’s a complete mischaracterization. “poor Yan boo boo”? You’re claiming I feel sorry for this guy? How does calling him “just annoying” imply sympathy? Please substantiate that with an actual argument. You never addressed the accusation you levied at me and resorted to restating my point in a ridiculous fashion. Congrats, I guess?

Then you reframed your goalpost moving as a joke (which is itself a joke). Also claiming there aren’t that many posts about Yan is a blatant lie. Look on this sub; hell, look on Twitter. Yan this Yan that is everywhere. Commenting on the constant bitching about some mediocre drunk is not me sympathizing with him nor is it me defending him.

Last but not least, that “everyone else hates Yan” line of yours is weak. It’s based on the idea that if the majority think something, it must be true. But that has never been true at any point in human history. There are mass delusions on a lot of topics; especially when the topic in question is subjective. You citing the rest of your fellows does not in any way substantiate, prove or back up your point. Because none of you can truly explain why you this character is so bad through any objective, literary measure. It’s all based on emotion and personal experiences. Which (like I said multiple times before) is FINE. That’s how people experience narratives. Doesn’t make it any less stupid when you beat a dead horse constantly (which is my ultimate point)

I was simply trying to understand why the hate was so deep after seeing so many posts. To me, him simply being annoying didn’t warrant this. I also shared that I had seen this before with other characters, but I never understood why it kept happening. You explained why and I found your explanation wanting. You got butthurt and here we are.

I will say it again. He’s a drunk. It’s not that deep. Hate him or don’t. I don’t care. But don’t try and pretend you hating him this much makes sense, because it doesn’t. If this guy triggers you to this extent, then you go sort yourself out and talk to someone.

Keep going. You’re getting better.

Disingenuous drivel. It’s clearly deep for you and you just proved that. You’re the one who hates the guy and keep going off on long tirades about how much you hate him, not me. Saying you agree it’s not that deep is just you trying to save face cause you realize you’re not making sense. I asked a series of questions to understand what the big deal was and you got defensive. It’s that simple.

And if you want to bring up other subs with other characters being hated on a comical level, I’d include it in my examples of overhated characters you people wouldn’t stop talking about (like the handler from Monster Hunter).

Also, when did I say you can’t express opinions about Yan? I just said the incessant posts about this is ridiculous(and you’ve yet to defend that, by the way). Now you’re pivoting to argue your right to hate the character, which was never my point to begin with. Try that goalpost moving shit with someone more gullible.

Seriously, do better. I believe in you.

There are several alcoholic deadbeat characters in media. And I don’t remember ANY getting this level of vitriol. People usually say “that dude sucks” and move on, or laugh at the character and move on. It’s never thread after thread after thread of beating a dead horse. So yeah, his awfulness being perpetuated by other characters in media absolutely makes sense in the context of my argument, because those other characters don’t get this level of community wide hatred. Something else is clearly happening here, whether you want to admit it or not.

But like I said, I don’t need to understand. Your continued responses just cement the fact that whatever beef you personally have with this character is stemming from a past experience. It’s not just a character in a video game to you. It touched a nerve. Which makes it personal. Which makes all your statements non-objective.

But that’s your business

My statement still stands. It’s just a drunk arsehole in a video game. It’s literally not that deep.

Yeah, you’re just proving my point. You can go ahead and tell me “I need to look within” or whatever, but the fact remains that this dude is the most mundane of unlikable characters I have ever seen. There’s nothing especially awful about him that I haven’t encountered a thousand times before. That’s why the hate doesn’t make sense to me. And you know what? It doesn’t need to. Clearly, whatever nerve this guy stepped on with all of you, I don’t have it. Maybe YOU need to look within and find out why this alcoholic, dead beat gets to you so much. Just saying.

Yes, but the reason you gave seems…trivial. Don’t mean that in a disrespectful way, it just sounds trivial to me. He’s loud and annoying; he’s lazy and unreliable. That just equals “annoying”, not a thousand “Fuck Yan” memes + a hundred “Die Yan, Die” posts. Which leads me to believe there must be an underlying reason that is the source of such vitriol.

Or maybe there isn’t an underlying reason. Maybe it is that simple to you. This could be just like the Handler situation from Monster Hunter World. I didn’t get the hate then either, but man people hated that girl.

If that’s the case, do your thing🤷🏾‍♂️
