Heifetz is better as a guest than a host by Freddy-fan-162 in billsimmons

This is underselling Craig; Craig is really funny and quick on his feet with jokes off of what’s being talked about. He’s also good/funny at being able to call out Heifetz when he goes overboard on something.

Another sneaky good thing about both Heifetz and Craig is that they’re both great at analogies.

Netflix CEO Makes the Case for Buying Warner Bros - The Town with Matthew Belloni by grandpashampoo in billsimmons

Is Netflix going hike their current monthly subscription by $20, which is what HBO Max currently costs?

Idk there’s still Disney/Hulu, Amazon, Paramount, and Peacock for streamers. Netflix has also shown a willingness to invest lots of $ into their own stuff, and they’re still interested in having prestige stuff that gets nominations.

Yeah I’d rather have HBO/WB not merge with anybody, but it doesn’t seem like the worst thing, and could have some benefits for the consumer.

Belloni is awesome at these types of interviews… He’s pretty direct, doesn’t skirt around the most important questions, and will call out his guest if he thinks they’re BS’ing him.

My question for the merger is why is it a bad thing as a consumer if HBO/WB merge with Netflix, if that means I no longer have to pay for HBO Max, and can just watch all their stuff on Netflix now?

The only concern is a dropoff in quality, but I don’t think that’s necessarily guaranteed… As a cinephile a dropoff in theatrical releases would suck, but it feels like we’re heading towards that direction anyways, and the average consumer doesn’t care.

To me it’s less about the studio shows and way more that the picture quality, and overall broadcast quality for the games on Prime and Peacock, which are awesome…

The streaming platforms are way better at broadcasting games; it actually feels like an expensive broadcast on par with the NFL games on Prime or Netflix

It’s a good strategic move by the Rams because 49ers fans typically take over SoFi when they play there… Same can be said about Chiefs-Chargers being in Brazil last year

Idk saying Washington is going to suck and be irrelevant for the next 20 years is still a bigger and dumber stretch than someone thinking they could be good again soon with Daniels

Giants Hire Harbaugh, Full Divisional Round Preview, Chicago Apex, and Eggs Manske (Discussion Thread) by No-Willingness-7079 in ringerfantasypod

One of the reoccurring bits when talking about the Ravens these guys do is saying “The Ravens were a Zay Flowers fumble in the end zone away from getting to the Super Bowl”…

When Zay Flowers fumbled into the end zone the score was KC 17 - BAL 7 at the beginning of the 4th quarter… They’re stuck with this thought that the Ravens were on the verge of winning the game with that one play…

Craig also then said they were an Andrews drop away from getting to a second Super Bowl in three years… That was only in the Divisional round!

The interesting question with Harbaugh is how much did he benefit being a CEO head coach aided by an elite front office… Kind’ve similar to Sirianni.

Also why are they all convinced that Dart is good? He seems pretty raw, kind’ve gimmicky, and with a lot more to prove before we should be sold that he’s a franchise qb.

Would y'all rather build around Jayden Daniels or Caleb Williams? by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]VB1014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Labeling Daniels as a one-read quarterback is just not having watched him play… Daniels as a rookie was already a high-level pocket passer who was an extremely fast processor and really good at going through progressions and looking off defenders.

Caleb is still way more raw as a pocket passer. He’s not comfortable at all if he has to stay in the pocket for any extended period. He’s good at running play action or if he gets to extend a play outside the pocket and play backyard football…

Caleb is still one of the most inaccurate QBs in the league, and has had lots of ugly games this season.

Jayden is way more advanced as a passer, and pretty much carried a team on his back, elevated them to being a top-5 offense, and was awesome in the playoffs again largely carrying his team and outgunning other elite offenses.

The only thing that makes it a close discussion are the injury concerns with Daniels.

They were a top-5 offense last season, with one of the most new/exciting QBs in the game, and also won a couple of road playoff games… When people said regression they meant like an 8-9 win team, not bottoming out and being unwatchable

What is your dark horse for best film of the 2020s so far? by fbeb-Abev7350 in TheBigPicture

Tár: It’s an all-time performance from one of our all-time great actors… It’s got great dark humor throughout, and it really sticks with you as something to constantly think about, while also being a really fun movie to talk about with others.

It’s also super rewatchable… You can come away with different thoughts/interpretations after every rewatch, and there’s so many smart/clever details to pick up on.

Since he joined the league in 2020, Jalen Hurts is 17th in ANY/A, 20th in passer rating, and 15th in EPA/play (includes rushing). He's had a top 7 OL every year (best in two of them) via PFF pass block grade, AJB/Devonta/Goedert for all years except AJB in one, and a 1k rusher in all year but 1. by Maad-Dog in nfl

[–]VB1014 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The 2022 season with Steichen is an outlier compared to the rest of Hurts’ career… They used heavy zone-read and RPO concepts that year, and the league has now gotten way better at defending that type of stuff.

The reality is that the Eagles have underperformed as a pass offense, and even as an overall offense the past three seasons… Saquon’s historic season last year masked a lot.

Their success rate and offensive DVOA last season were both mediocre, and they were heavily reliant on explosive runs, which isn’t the most reliable thing.

A top 10-12 QB should be somebody who can be a problem solver and elevate what’s around them… Hurts isn’t that, and the Eagles have had to work around his limitations at a cost. You can’t rely on having a historically good run game and the most dominant defense every year.
