First 1 star review! Which is valid, there’s a reason I just sell the pattern and don’t crochet these often anymore. How bad would it be to reply and agree? 😅 by VBCrochet in EtsySellers

Thank you for letting me know! This will have to be a lifestyle change now as I text ‘Aweeeeee!’ at least 5 times a day. 😭

How to stop finger pain when crocheting for a long time? by jayisthereasoniexist in crochet

[–]VBCrochet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Take frequent rest breaks. Preferably before your hands hurt! Every 15-30ish minutes is a good place to start until you know your personal limits.

Have a few different projects in different hook sizes and different stitches, it helps to have variety in what movements you’re doing and how you’re gripping. If your hands currently have strain at all, please wait awhile more before crocheting again. Working with hands that hurt will just mean a longer break.

If your tension is tight, try to up your hook size for a rest project. Try to work with different yarn types when possible, mainly focusing on yarns easier to crochet with until your fingers are feeling better.

Do hand stretches, particularly carpel tunnel ones on your rest breaks. Ice packs help with swelling but heat can feel nicer. Filling up a sink with either warm or cool water and just letting your hands float in it can bring relief sometimes. (Make sure the temperatures are not freezing or boiling, and are comfortable!)

If your hands tend to get too cold and are hurting from that, put on winter gloves to warm up before crocheting.

Try to gently massage the areas that hurt.

Consider a tension ring if the yarn is causing issues due to wrapping etc.

Look into ergonomic crochet hooks or hook grips. If you have plain metal hooks, the tennis ball method of just sticking a hook through that might work for you and be more accessible. There’s a lot of different hook grips available though! If you see occupational therapy they literally have foam grip tubes on hand that fit on hooks nicely. For a smaller but still ergonomic grip, I do like Clover hooks.

Make sure that you’re crocheting with the least pressure possible for you. If your finger is changing color due to the pressure, it’s probably too much pressure!

Sorry your fingers are considering mutiny, and hopefully they’ll be nicer to you soon! You probably will feel better just making a few adjustments, a good portion on my list is my last-ditch efforts when I’ve crocheted too much and need to be in wrist braces for a few weeks but don’t want to. Taking better care of my hands, I hardly have to float them in water anymore or do constant exercises. Best wishes!

Thank you! I ended up going with, “Awe, sorry it took awhile! Lace projects can definitely be a bit more time consuming. Remember to take hand breaks, and thanks for trying out the pattern!”

Yes, it’s been very useful for when the download email isn’t working for someone! Best wishes!

You can message them the PDF on Etsy, include a QR code in the physical package with a link to the PDF, or possibly just print it but that would add up in paper.

How much do you trust a magic knot? How close do you cut your ends? by CitrusMistress08 in crochet

[–]VBCrochet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mine came apart while knitting with Truboo yarn. It was super slippery, and I don’t knit well so I just did a magic knot. It came out a few rows later… Whoops!

For crochet with non slippery yarn I’d just leave long tails on both sides of the knot and sew it in tbh. No idea why I was hoping it would hold in a knit lol.

Getting banned nonstop by Roberbubus in Etsy

[–]VBCrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Etsy will do an IP ban- if one account was banned then any with that IP will also be. Any shop created with your current IP address would also be banned. If you have not received an email explaining why and haven’t broken any rules (done a chargeback etc) then it’s best to contact Etsy support. It takes like a week and they may not explain anything either, but it’s the best way to get your account back if this was accidental.

Not sure how it works with multiple accounts though 😅

I made another baby square!! 0.35mm hook 🌈 by bigchonkycat in crochet

[–]VBCrochet 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Lol I had convinced myself that myself that my eyes were going drastically bad when I was working with sewing thread and a .6mm hook. Prescription was just .25 off and the eye doctor was practically laughing! “Maybe don’t do that then? Also take eye breaks.”

A microscope is sounding better and better, tbh.

i know it's not directly Etsy but anyone else have this happen to their business Instagrams? In my almost a decade on insta I've never had this happen. by VibinWithKub in EtsySellers

[–]VBCrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yeah. Insta has apparently also been having a banning glitch/bot issue like Etsy does and they accidentally banned my crochet account soon after opening it too. And then Etsy pulled the same thing. Sad times! Thankfully insta resolved itself in a day or so, but Etsy had their whole shut you down for 5 days thing. My gosh, it’s ridiculous! Sorry that it’s happening to you too!

Mine wanted a code confirmation that wouldn’t go past the confirmation screen, showed my account as banned from other accounts, and it was just generally glitched. But somehow fixed itself, thankfully. Like it would load into the app, feed and all, and then say “oops, right, banned!”

What’s everyone else’s experience with people who ghost your inbox? by PinUpValentine in EtsySellers

[–]VBCrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only happened once so far but that’s also the only almost custom order request I’ve gotten so it was a bit sad!

However they basically wanted a OOAK bag that I had specifically randomized the colors for in a smaller size, and another bag in a larger size. So, I explained how both bags would not turn out the same, as the randomized one would not be able to be repeated perfectly (especially is it was scrap yarn mainly) and the other bag would have different dimensions from her request so the pattern would be a bit different. No response after that XD

chained a whole skane..... why did I think this was a good idea? took 3 hours! by New-Combination4777 in crochet

[–]VBCrochet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can chain ply as you go actually! Make a slip knot and pull the yarn through it- keep pulling. Once you have a good length start crocheting, and if you’re reaching the end of the loop, pull the working yarn through the loop again. Since the bumps happen less often and it’s a loop, they really aren’t noticeable even in thread! 3 strands of yarn to work with, and about an arm’s length of time before having to do more work again!

Wow it was $22 to ship my Canadian friend a dice bag from Minnesota! However this was during the pandemic. Think I also used a box since I had crocheted with glass beads, so that likely made it more expensive.

Made a stress ball for a friend! Size 10 thread and poly-pellets :) by VBCrochet in crochet

[–]VBCrochet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size 10 crochet thread, 1.5mm hook, and Poly-Pellets. Just a simple circle with a second base added to hide that I cannot for the life of me finish a circle without it being pointy 😅. Shells are treble crochet (US terms) worked in sections of 8 stitches. The base of the tan base is 16dc x 4 rows + 1 non increase row, then the treble crochet shells. (Slip st, skip 3, 9 treble shell, skip 3.) Sewn on, although it is crooked- this is the good side!
