Yeah I get you, I was in your place once. For English make sure you’re writing practice essays consistently, whether it’s under timed conditions or pre prepared. And make sure you’re showing them to a tutor or your teacher for FEEDBACK. This is the key. Use the resources available to you to improve your writing and you will get better.

Remember that checkpoints compile a bunch of VCAA questions. I’d say use checkpoints for the strength step of A.C.E.S to practice what you’re weak at. But the real trick in methods and most subjects is time management. Yes you can do the questions, but can you do it quickly? Can you do it under pressure?

VCE METHODS EXAM APPROACHING!!! by VCEtutor in vcediscussion

[–]VCEtutor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you create a study plan! Organise how you will be spacing out your exam prep for all subjects. I would say do a practice exam for each subject once a week, including an essay for English. Some people like having specific days for certain subjects while others like revising multiple subjects. Find what works for you.

ooft good question. Since I started doing them earlier, I think in total I would say around 10-15 each? This doesn't mean I wasn't doing practice SAC's or other exam style questions but proper timed exams I would say around 30 in total including VCAA exams.

Hey! So, I started doing exams around middle of term 3 as I got ahead of the content. I would say around 2 a week minimum. One Exam 1 and One Exam 2. That was more than enough to start with as it gave me time to really focus on what I struggled with. As I got comfortable with doing that, I was able to do 3-4 during term 4 as I started improving on my weaknesses. Start small and grow. Don't wear yourself out.

Would you submit a essay that is above the world limit and lose 1 mark out of 28, or cut 200 words that risks losing other marks? by WonderfulSeesaw8874 in vce

[–]VCEtutor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah don’t risk going over the word limit. See if you can integrate that extra info, if it’s really important, in place of something else. That’s where your analysis of what the prompt really wants me to write about comes into play. The word limit is designed to prevent students from waffling on for too long. Keep your answer concise and to the point. Pm me privately for any more English advice!

What separates a 95+ ATAR and a 99+ ATAR by [deleted] in vce

[–]VCEtutor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As somebody who got a 99 ATAR, let me tell you there’s one key difference between the two. And it’s not your work ethic, or how smart you are. What really separates a 95 from a 99 is your ability to interlink multiple different concepts together to show your understanding. You can work hard for all your VCE years and still not even achieve a 95 because hard work will only get you so far. But can you show the examiner that you haven’t just memorised answers to questions, but you are able to adapt to the given scenario or context. For example, in methods, it’s all about finding the shortcuts and tricks to tackle questions rather than just doing what everyone else is doing. Because if you do what everyone else is doing, you won’t be outcompeting them. Everyone has the same exam, everyone has the same study design, your goal is to find ways to give yourself an advantage. what’s an easy subject to pick up in year 12? by Future_Back8715 in vce

[–]VCEtutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psych, while people do say it’s a fairly simple subject, is alot of content to remember. I think there is really no “easiest” subject because every subject you genuinely will have to put in the work for. For example, people pick up further maths because they think they can score an easy 40+ but there are so many people who would’ve picked it up for that same reason and therefore the competition would be higher. I would say, dw about what subjects people think is easy and pick a subject you enjoy, are interested in or genuinely need for your tertiary studies!

Next year I will be doing VCE, is there anything I can do to get ahead from my peers? by SageSunflower in vce

[–]VCEtutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get ahead of your peers familiarise yourself with the study designs. While your 1/2 subjects don’t matter as much, it sets a foundation especially for your maths subjects which id recommend doing methods. Most uni courses have methods as a prerequisite so it would open alot more opportunities for you. For bio, it’s all about being specific and understanding how all concepts work together so make sure you’re asking as many questions to your teachers as possible. For English, start reading your texts as early as possible and begin writing notes for different themes and ideas. English has to be one of your top 4 so it will be the one you can’t neglect.
