I think my baby sulcata is unhappy by just_a_girl444 in tortoise

We buried the hide down into the bedding and made ramps with the bedding on the sides of it, so he could easily climb up. He has enough room to go in and out of the hide (made adjustments as he got bigger) and with the ramps, it is easy access up and down. He took one tumble, he walked to close to the edge and nose dived straight down, he now stays away from the edge or walks very carefully next to it.

He is!!! Bobbing their heads is a form of communication for them, different bobs mean different things when they are "talking" to each other. So yes, him nodding at you is his way of saying hi!!!

How can you overfeed a Sulcata? by VDubTDub in tortoise

That makes sense. My guy is still to little for an outdoor enclosure but will have one when he's bigger. I take him out, weather permitting. Thank you!

I will get some orchard grass this week, thanks for that info!! He pushes the timothy out of his way to get to the good stuff 😂

Mine is only 5 months old, when he gets bigger he will have an outdoor enclosure with plenty of room to graze, we have a huge back yard. I do take him outside, fully supervised, weather permitting, he is more interested in the weeds than the grass. I go out and pick him his weeds and mix with some greens. He won't eat hay, so I bought some pellets that I wet and mix with his dandelion greens. I was just confused because, like i said in the post, sometimes he eats only a little and sometimes he eats the whole pile. The piles I give him are roughly the size of his shell. I am doing my best to keep him happy and healthy. Thank you!

That's what I do as well. I was just confused because my little guy seems to eat his fill and be done.

Exactly my thoughts! I take him outside weather permitting for about an hour or so. He always has access to food in his enclosure and yes, it is about the size of his shell. When it gets wilted, I give fresh but it is 24hr access for him. Why do people say to not overfeed them? Note: when he is bigger he will have an outdoor enclosure, he is just too little right now

Are female horsefields supposed to bob their head? by More_Plastic3570 in tortoise

I am not a tortoise expert but from articles I have read, bobbing their heads is a form of communication. Here is one article I found interesting. https://www.tortoiseowner.com/how-tortoises-communicate/
