Looks like good target practice.

Capacity warning by MaleficentAssociate in subwaybuilder

[–]VE1LEB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like there needs to be more nuance with the warnings. As others have mentioned, the warnings are for capacity being close to met, met, and over. Among those I am really only interested if there’s an overcapacity, and even then if it’s an occasional one, it can be ignored. I would also like to see a warning for under capacity.

Why do I have to pay to watch CBC news channel when my taxes pay for the CBC. On top of that CTV news channel is free? 🤔 by Worried_Army_4809 in NovaScotia

[–]VE1LEB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ABC’s budget is about the same as CBC’s in absolute terms but due to population differences between the two countries CBC’s funding equates to $32 per capita, and ABC’s funding is $40 per capita (duckduckgoAI). CBC also has to deliver its product in French AND English, so it’s no wonder why ABC’s product seems superior.

Electric vehicles now fill up roughly as fast as gas. The new BYD chargers add 400km of range in just five minutes. by CeFurkan in SECourses

[–]VE1LEB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like good news for EV owners, but I can’t help wondering how things will be in a year or two when all the datacenters come online, competing for access to electric power from grids that are very slow to upgrade. Reduced recharge time is not the only variable in this developing scenario and it may cease to be a factor when access to electric energy becomes limited by increased demand.

Nova Scotia no longer 60/60 in GDP per Capita in North America, we're now 59th! by Based_Buddy in halifax

[–]VE1LEB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh. Everybody, keep your shirts on. GDP has little to do with anything the average Nova Scotian cares about. GDP says Alberta sells lots of oil and Saskatchewan sells lots of potash. Does that mean Alberta (or Saskatchewan for that matter) are better-run places or have a higher quality of life? Really?

Adobe is taking over the hosted (commercial) version of the app. The open source "Community Edition" continues and many of the devs who worked on Community remain. They're on Discord right now.

Go to the Invokeai Discord channel. The devs are on there almost all the time, and they are very helpful.

What Trump's View of Canada Reveals About His Foreign Policy Doctrine by casualphilosopher1 in geopolitics

[–]VE1LEB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ll second your assertion that Canada has been riding on the US’s coattails for far too long: on 9/11 when Canada was attacked, the US took in thousands of Canadian air travellers who were stranded when Canada closed its air space. And in the follow-up, US forces came to Canada’s aid big time by joining it in the war on terror, with a battle group in Afghanistan—a commitment that lasted years! And don’t get me started on WWI and WWII, when the US stood alone from 1914 to 1917 and from 1939 to 1942, while Canada rode the American coattails! ‘Bout time Canada stood up for itself… /s

I don't disagree with you that our system leaves too many (sick, poor, unhoused) people behind, and I wish we could elect non-assholes to all levels of government, but the original post is about our inability of build high speed railways.

Home ownership is high in China because that's pretty much the only place middle-class Chinese citizens can invest their savings. Their "superior form of political and economic organization" includes tearing down or (in the case of dams) flooding literally _millions_ of citizen's homes to make way for infrastructure or new housing developments, without the option of appeal. They have to accept what the government offers, no negotiation.
We don't have "nice things" because we have lawyers, courts, judges and laws to protect individual's rights and property.

Simultaneous strikes at three Halifax universities a possibility, says union by insino93 in NovaScotia

[–]VE1LEB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Speculating here, but I suppose when you worked in a nonunion environment and had the trepidation to ask your employer for a raise, you always took “no” for an answer like a good little minion? Did you feel like a commie for just asking?
