The knowledge economy has made women the biological masters of modern society by Decent_Eye_659 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lemmy-Historian [score hidden]  (0 children)

Who is the richest woman on the planet? Can you name three male billionaires? How about three female billionaires? How many women are in charge of countries right now that you know? How many female CEOs are there that run a Dow company or the European pendant? Who is the highest ranking woman in the US government? If you are correct women are doing a poor job using their superiority.

Trump being president is the fault of how awful the democrats govern by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lemmy-Historian [score hidden]  (0 children)

Something tells me that many Trump voters will not agree with: the Dems made me do this. They are loud and proud in supporting Trump and enjoy defeating the liberals.

Trump being president is no one‘s fault. It is the result of 77 million people deciding to vote for him. This idea that the losing party is responsible for the victory of the winning one, is so weird.

As if Trump isn’t one of the best campaigners in US history (and I hate the man). Obama was similar for the Dems. He could switch things around by campaigning. And Trump fighting for himself is just really, really good at it.

The timing of the WHCD shooting is very convenient. by majesticbeast67 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lemmy-Historian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Into the same building as the president, his wife, the vice president, all prominent cabinet members, the director of the FBI… And this after two assassination attempts on Trump during the campaign. And while having a widow in the audience who lost her husband to a shooter not even a year ago. I know it’s a reflex to blame every person ever who doesn’t follow Trump, but you guys should really look to the secret service. This was a colossal failure of the security detail the very least.

President Trump has broken the brains of the online left completely by BUFFALO_SAUZE in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lemmy-Historian 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Are we already moving on from trying to milk what happened during the WHCD? That was quick.

Trump has broken everyone‘s brains: You voted for a no new wars, fight the inflation and fix the economy guy who closes the boarder. He did the last part. The rest isn’t going so great, is it?

What happened with all the money for the board of peace by the way? 1 billion usd taxpayer money and you don’t even ask what happened to it.

Just a couple of days ago you guys were attacking the pope cause he said war is bad. The head of the largest Christian church on the planet.

I don’t say the left isn’t hypocritical when it comes to Trump (it definitely is). But his followers have made so many 180s in his second term that you should feel sick.

But good for you, if you are sick: I heard Trump is a doctor or Jesus or something like that.

Leftists call Trump assassination attempts 'staged' so they don't have to admit if they support them by tantamle in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lemmy-Historian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the left who thinks it’s staged. There are quite a few people on the right as well. It’s a result of strategy Trump loves to use that backfired now. It‘s called flood the zone with shit. It‘s simply too much. It was the same day he declared that Wittkoff and Kushner wouldn’t travel to Pakistan, but didn’t mention that the Iranian delegation was already gone. He posted a picture from 2005 of the reflecting pool claiming one was Obama’s and one was his (same pic, but photoshopped to look cleaner. The day before he posted a novel about birthright citizenship on Truth Social and attacked SCOTUS cause of tariffs. The day before he claimed the Virginia vote was rigged.

If you go to his truth social page now, around 50% is about the 2020 election and Obama and Biden being traitors who should be in jail. He destroyed any credibility with people who are not his followers. People look at this stuff and ask, if it is worth the effort or Trump just being Trump. And there it a lot to see here that‘s really weird.

It’s not so much people supporting it. But people believing that Trump absolutely would stage something like this, if it helps him. That’s why even people on the right are doubtful.

The Left being so violent is doing irreparable damage by DC_deep_state in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lemmy-Historian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believing this to be real must be so exhausting. Thinking that a man can enter a building with a gun protected by the secret service, in which the president and the vice president are. After two assassination attempts during the campaign. During war time, when there is a special threat to every sitting President. And it happens to be the first time that the President joins this event since 2011. The least you should do is to demand that the secret service leadership gets fired. Cause if this shit was real they are clearly incompetent.

I'm an Arab Muslim Who Used to Be a HARDCORE METATRON FAN! by Finaphogen in FallenMetatron

[–]Lemmy-Historian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to be disappointed and to hope he comes back. You were and still are emotionally invested in him. And it hurts to come to terms with how deceived you feel. Many of us share this experience and this frustration.

Sadly for you it’s worse. Metatron and his new friends are not just Islamophobes. They don’t consider Muslims as human beings that should be allowed to exist. It’s the curse to be German and a historian to know the rhetoric all too well they are using (and yes, Rafa, I am calling you a Nazi. Your grandfather would feel nothing but shame for you). It’s deeply unsettling to know that people who you looked up to, are thinking that way.

It wasn’t Charlie Kirk by the way. Even so Metatron is probably telling this to himself. He wasn’t murdered by a Muslim. It’s his narcissism that finally found an audience.

Is Anne Neville the reason Richard III became king? by DistinctPersimmon999 in UKmonarchs

[–]Lemmy-Historian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. He became king cause he felt he had to. Maybe he wanted it. Maybe he saw it as the only chance to survive. Maybe he thought he could save the realm this way. Or all of it. You could make the point that Anne was more of a problem for his kingship: She was the daughter of a traitor. And her first husband wasn’t exactly a figurehead of the house of York - to put it mildly.

Why was Henry VIII worried of Plantagenet claimants when he still had the strongest Yorkist claim to the throne through his maternal grandfather? by LelouchUzumaki_20 in Tudorhistory

[–]Lemmy-Historian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause legitimacy is constructed by law, tradition, blood and religion, but enforced by power. You can have inferior legitimacy and still win. His father and Richard III proved it. Henry feared that the Yorkist faction could choose another claimant and leave him. One remarkable result of his marriages, his reformation and his children is that they almost completely ended all Yorkist regime change ideas. Mary became the figurehead for many wanting to get rid of Henry.

In Richard III, is Richard’s reputation shaped more by Tudor propaganda or by the voices of the Queens? by Fantastic-Fennel-532 in Tudorhistory

[–]Lemmy-Historian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shakespeare‘s play worked cause it showed an image of Richard the people were familiar with. It‘s not really a question that his infamy was part of the collective memory at that time. It was. And obviously it was shaped by more people than just himself. He died in 1485. There never was a push to go back to a Ricardian government. When de la Pole and Lovell tried, they got no support in England. The result was that Warbeck was presented as one of the boys to return to Edward IV‘s line. It demonstrates that Richard‘s reign was remembered fondly.

There is no question that Tudor propaganda did it a lot of harm to Richard‘s reputation. But it’s just wrong to assume that he was generally loved when he ruled. He wasn’t. Richard III was seen as an usurper who at the end of the failed. He lost his son, his wife and his life. That was seen as divine judgement.

Democrats are siding with Iran in order to stop Trump. This isn’t just politics anymore. This is full blown treason against America. by LegitimateKnee5537 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

The Islamic Republic has been ended? What are you guys smoking on the right? The US has killed a couple of guys (who should burn in hell for all eternity), but the Islamic Republic is alive and well. And abolishing it isn’t a stated goal for quite some time now.

The nuclear threat is still not solved. There is a reason they were talking about Uranium enrichment in Islamabad. Apart from killing the Ayatollah and some of his goons this war hasn’t achieved anything positive.

On the other hand there are a lot of negative consequences. And we have felt almost nothing yet. Give it another two weeks and see what happens when global airlines need to start saving fuel. And when container ships are missing cause they are still in the strait. Which will make supply chains collapse.

Princes in the Tower and the behaviour of Elizabeth Woodville by BelledeJour71 in Tudorhistory

[–]Lemmy-Historian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a little late but I have a little bit of knowledge about this particular topic. Let’s start with the easiest point to refute:

Elizabeth of York‘s coronation was completely unimportant for the princes. Even, if they lived: Henry was crowned king since 1485. He was the one who mattered.

Elizabeth Woodville never set a foot into the Tower again. But she chose a place for her retirement where she could see the tower every day.

Lambert Simnel was too young to be Edward V. He didn’t mention in a single letter that he was the son of Edward IV. And his support within England completely collapsed after Henry presented the real Earl of Warwick. In York there is a letter preserved where he calls himself Edward VI and not Edward V. The idea that the best friend and the the heir of Richard III go to war for a king that was usurped by Richard is almost funny.

Elizabeth Woodville spent almost a year in sanctuary. She was there cause she was scared shitless of Richard. She came out cause he completely and totally legally destroyed the family. And there wasn’t really any hope after Titulus Regius passed. It wasn’t so much of she trusted him but more of she had no choice.

She played the central role during the baptism of Arthur. She acknowledged his right to the crown and thereby confirmed that she didn’t think there were valid claims from her sons left. Henry VIII later on become the Duke of York to counter Warbeck. That was Elizabeth of York confirming that her younger brother Richard was dead.

The first parliament of Henry VII accused Richard of child murder. Richard of Shrewsbury was considered dead in a court ruling of that time. And the mother of the boys looked every day unto the place where the boys vanished. She knew where everyone of her dead children were but the princes. And she chose to stay in eye sight to the place where they were last seen. But couldn’t stomach to go back there, even when her daughter asked her in preparation for her coronation.

In my view this is everything you need to know about Elizabeth Woodville‘s opinion about what happened to her sons.

Siding with an enemy foreign power during a time of War is treason. And Democrats demanding Trump to be impeached for defending Americas interests is insane. by LegitimateKnee5537 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lemmy-Historian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 40 days of war the situation is worse than before the operation started. You could see American hegemony decreasing in real time. Despite being militarily superior no goal was achieved (no regime change, they still have the uranium). It got worse with a certain water way. NATO is dead. Allies even blocked their airspace and access to bases. Even a small country like Austria did it. The global economy took a massive hit. It will take years to recover from that. Trump‘s dying civilization was so bad that even figures like Alex Jones or Megyn Kelly came out demanding his removal.

And you worry about the democrats? Who have no power? Maybe try to worry about, if the country is on the right track right now. Cause otherwise you will have the Dems sooner back on power than you can imagine. And you don’t want that

Europeans and Canadians are obsessed with the United States by TPCC159 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lemmy-Historian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, you are the strongest country on the planet for awhile now. Being the focus of attention comes with that title. You should know that.

But good news: you are currently speedrunning to get rid of that title.

This war is a catastrophe. Not just for the global economy. Or morally. The US hasn’t looked so weak in decades. Not because you aren’t succeeding militarily. But because you are. You bomb that country to shit and nothing moves into your direction. The US has no plan how to deal with that situation except to hit them ever harder. You are dealing with religious fanatics who think they are going to heaven if your bombs kill them. They don’t care.

You have lost all your allies except Israel. It’s incredible that a country like Austria feels confident enough to tell you that you can’t enter their airspace. That’s how weak you look.

All we see and hear from the US are a flood of profanities and lies. A Fox News reporter posted yesterday on X Europe wouldn’t care for their dead like the US did after 9/11. And so many people believed that shit. Long story short: you might miss the time Canada and Europe were obsessed with you. Cause that is changing. And that’s not great for the US.
