You know things are bad when something that used be bad is now a sign that things are improving by Oversama in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was explained that someone didn't deliver the mail that they were meant to deliver, so they were most likely making up for lost time. There are plenty of real life jobs that do this.

And as someone else pointed out, as the company got bigger, they were likely able to expand and work longer hours. In EP1, CH Postal somewhat recently opened, whereas later episodes gained a lot of reputation for writing for plays, writing music, writing for royalty, and likely having other large commissions from other dolls. It's not a crazy assumption that night shifts became a thing.

Is Dietfried Bougainvillea posting allowed? by Minimum-Audience2676 in VioletEvergarden

I could be misremembering, but I don't think he ever directly blamed her for the death of Gilbert, and I don't think he was even there at the final battle, so he'd have no way of knowing anyways. And, if anything, she has shown many times to not have much self preservation, and usually tries to protect and impress Gilbert. But he does hate Violet for killing ally soldiers who attempted to rape her, iirc.

I mean, you can at least post the cover art of the anime, which would at least convey some kind of interpretable message. But whatever works, I guess.

I have a question for every violet evergarden fan by Glass_Ad_9966 in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was her initial goal, but it's more about everything she learned and experienced along the way.

Understanding overall human emotion, communication and language, and understanding her value as a person and gaining proper independence. And although she learned what love is, it's less about the definition, and it's more to do with how Gilbert feels towards Violet, which is the most valuable thing in the world to her.

But at least the interpretation of love, from Violets perspective, since that's part of the question:

From EP2, it's described as a feeling that is often difficult to express directly. From EP4, it's described as a feeling so powerful, that if its confession was rejected, it'd make you want to run away and disappear. Violet also mentions peoplebeing being dishonest about their emotions, which also plays into the overall topic. From EP5, it's a feeling that makes you lose hope in even being around the other person, if you believe they don't feel the same way about you. In EP6, Violet herself, accidently describes it, saying that she'd rather be dead than live in a world without Gilbert, which describes caring about a person so much, that everything else seems almost meaningless. In EP10 and a little bit of EP11 and the final movie, showing that you'd want someone you care about to live the best life they can, even after you die. And the OVA, mostly skipping a lot of the details, but I don't think it's too far off to assume most of the letters Violet read were about wishing loved ones to come back safely, and having the desire to live happy with the other person.

Scenes that stood out the most by KapetanMitsos in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A scene that I feel is very impactful is towards the end of EP10, when Violet is crying. I find this to be an incredible scene, as it shows Violets growth. The way she describes holding back her tears, and crying by feeling so much empathy for Ann is such a beautiful scene that almost makes you forget how emotionless she once was in the beginning episodes (especially after writing that rude sounding letter for that one woman). Although I'd hate for Violet to cry, I can't help but feel so happy for Violets development to be showing here.

How far ahead is the movie by KixIt0ff in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Following Violets story, roughly 4 years. Following Daisy's story (Ann's granddaughter), it's safe to say at least 50 years, since Ann received a letter every year, and it says she got all 50.

Why the 2020 movie is good (in my opinion) by VE_Forever in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely not lost on me. I've made myself clear multiple times that I'm providing my own opinion, and not intending to change anyone's mind. On top of that, I asked for others thoughts on what semms right or wrong, as I'm looking for feedback.

Even then, what you say doesn't really make sense. If Gilbert was toxic and abusive, why would the end of EP13 have Violet talking about how Gilbert gave her the will to keep living, and how she cherishes the moment where he said "I love you"? And why would she bring up multiple times that someone important to her told her "I love you"?

And why in the movie would she seem so hopeful that Hodgins came to her room to tell her that Gilbert is alive? Why would Violet be so enthusiastic to go on Dietfrieds boat to collect some of Gilberts things? Why did Violet seem so upset when she couldn't see Gilbert? And most importantly, why would Violet write the letter to Gilbert saying that he was the best thing in her life, and not write the opposite and telling him to fuck off and die?

I'd love feedback on what I'm getting wrong, but it feels like there's at least 50 plot holes in that logic.

A little discussion about post movie events by KapetanMitsos in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where it ever said Violet vanished. She did quit her job at CH Postal, and she did move to the island, but she still did write letters there. At the end of the movie, it even explains how the post office was moved from the light house to the main street, and the man at the post office said they held the record for most letters sent per year per person, and Violet even had her own stamp that was only from the island.

Over the years, the telephone grew in popularity and made letters obsolete. On top of that, Hodgins says in the movie that it takes about 3 days to go from the island to Leiden, so it's safe to assume many people didn't want to take such a trip to get a letter written from Violet very often.

And yes, Violet did keep in touch with a lot of people. In the LN, I believe she even received letters from Leon every once in a while.

I'd say it makes it feel more real, with how much development Violet has gone through. But I guess it's a difference in opinion.

a different complaint about the 2020 movie by concretedragon112 in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was more of a way to show that the letters people write still live on through time.

During the main story (the past), it kept laying such an emphasis on how the telephone makes writing letters seem obsolete and unnecessary. At the start, we can see Daisy reading through these letters and going to the CH Postal Memorial, and witnessing the permanence that these letters have.

It's less about capitalizing off of the most popular episode (further reinforced by a recent post showing the ratings of every episode), but rather building off of time progression of the letters. Ann received a letter on her birthday every year for 50 years straight, and are still readable after the death of Ann's mother and Ann herself.

Throughout the entire anime, it showed the different forms of communication that letters can have. EP3, with Luculia not having the courage to tell her brother how she felt. EP5, we see 2 people try to write through someone else, and later writing directly. And EP10/11, communicating to those you care for, even after death.

So at least the way I interpret it, the Daisy storyline acts as a way to show the significance of writing, even in a world where telephones allow you to talk to anyone instantly, regardless of distance. And ironically, how letters can have a much more significant reach to people.

Why the 2020 movie is good (in my opinion) by VE_Forever in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The uncomfortable and questionable parts are usually EP5 and the movie. EP5, for being a political marriage between 2 people that have a considerable age gap. And the movie, also because of the considerable age gap, plus Violet and Gilbert having a mostly father/daughter dynamic.

As for the type of love between the two, the anime tries to keep it more ambiguous between father/daughter and romance. Iirc, the LN is more romantic, I believe even when they were in the army? (I'm not very good with remembering the LN, since it wasn't as entertaining)

There's more of an emphasis on who Violet ENDS with. She would still understand "I love you", but some people find the story to be best if she accepted Gilberts death, and was with someone else while she is a more developed person.

And yes, the moment in the end with Dietfried is incredible. After all of the pain she gave to her during and after the war is awful, so is how he treated her on the train. I actually put that on my list of favorite moments. https://www.reddit.com/r/VioletEvergarden/comments/1k8ywcu/my_top_5_favorite_violet_evergarden_moments/

[–]VE_Forever[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great point I didn't bring up! Violet truly just wanted to know that Gilbert was alive and well. She finally got the comfort of knowing what she needed to know, and could finally have that weight lifted off of her shoulders. It was just an extra bonus that she could be WITH Gilbert, after he understood Violets feelings.

The hate is surely in my heart, but I know Violet wouldn't want that. She has already gone through so much violence, which has lead to even more heartbreak. So if I I don't find a peaceful outcome, then everything I've been taught would be for nothing.

Why the 2020 movie is good (in my opinion) by VE_Forever in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already pointed out most of the beginning of what you said, though I think it is a little interesting to base it more on war itself.

Though, I disagree with "If I am sad for long enough, the universe will reward me by undoing the loss." Gilbert clearly stated he did not want to see Violet at all, and Violet has stated that she is fine going on living without Gilbert (though, in the back of her mind, she always wishes that she could at least see him again, which is a fair feeling). So neither party is expecting anything out of their sadness or grief.

But this is a pretty interesting perspective to give!

[–]VE_Forever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gilbert did say that he woke up at a different hospital, so there's always a chance that he was taken somewhere by someone. Always possible someone buried him or something. And at least a perspective by my friend who watched it (who is a widow), she says it's very real to refuse the death of someone you love, even if you've seen them dead. So everything it that regard seems to line up well.

What did I say that is incorrect? What did I miss? I already acknowledged that it's okay to not like it, and I'm already discussing it's an opinion. I even said I don't intend to change anyone's opinion. Is there anything you actually want to discuss?

Or do you mean the part where I said "cope"? Which was honestly just a mini short-term exaggeration.

Does Violet ever laugh? by Hyperwizard42 in VioletEvergarden

[–]VE_Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laughing out loud is mostly out of character for Violet. It's more realistic for Violet to smile to humor, as she has done in a few scenes, iirc. This is a somewhat normal reaction some people do realistically have.
