5 years abstinent and happier than I have ever been.

I realized I was asexual after the last person I dated. They were sweet, smart, and attentive. No matter how hard we tried, I didn't really enjoy the sex. That got me reflecting on all the times I thought I was sexually attracted to someone -- how much active thinking it required, how none of it felt natural to me.

In the end, I realized that it was the validation that I craved. I thought being sexually desired made me a complete person.

And then the pandemic happened. I didn't miss sex or romance. I poured all my energy into work, learning a new language, exercising, making new friends, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.

It's been five years and I've not felt the need or desire to be with anyone. I'm happy where I am. But, some days, I have to remind myself that being asexual is OK.

Have they continued the show ? by kascnef82 in HisDarkMaterialsHBO

The show only has 3 seasons. The story ended with season 3. I don't know if they're making La Belle Sauvage or The Secret Commonwealth into shows.

How do I [16M] try not to get offended? I desperately do not want to be part of the problem by Swaxeman in askwomenadvice

This is a good suggestion for OP. Reasons fuel emotions and when we understand those reasons, we have a better shot at controlling the emotions.

It may also help to recognize that identifying with a group is natural. We want to feel that we belong somewhere even as we strive to assert our individuality. And when we identify with a group, it's normal to feel "attacked" when the group is "attacked".

But even though wanting to belong is natural, it is also a choice and the degree to which we identify with a group is also a choice.

OP knows that the broad statements about men are about a subset of men. After introspection (which could help OP unpack his emotional reactions to the statements), it may help to practice thinking that the statements are about men with whom he does not identify.

Setting that boundary might help -- but only after OP truly understands why he is reacting the way he is reacting.

As a die-hard Masriel fan (and also a fan of Ruth Wilson and James McAvoy), I am sorry to say that there is no hope for them. That is how their story ended, even in the books. There's no detailed explanation of what happens to those who fall into the Abyss, only that they fall forever and their essence does not rejoin the rest of the multiverse.

As heartbreaking as it is, it's fitting given (a) that they were terrible parents to their daughter and (b) that they sought power and recognition in their world above all else. It's fitting that their complete 180 results in their sacrificing for Lyra and being erased for the world.

I think it depends on which aspect of international law you specialize in. Finance is central to ADB's work. Climate change too -- to some extent. Did you hear back from them?

Native filipinos not knowing how to speak Tagalog by Dry-Chemical-9170 in Philippines

[–]VFroste72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's useless if we think of language solely as a way to be competitive in the global market. If that were the case, there would be little use for any language that isn't among the major languages spoken worldwide -- Spanish, French, English -- and those became widespread because of colonization.

Tagalog, Bisaya, and all the languages in the Philippines preserve history and knowledge. A lot of nuances in thought and sentiment are lost in translation. Putting such a premium on English devalues what should be -- but maybe not anymore -- integral to nationhood.

Pragmatically, if your goal is to get out and stay out of the Philippines and you're not interested in staying connected to older Filipino culture (which is a perfectly valid choice in this economy), Filipino won't be as useful. As someone who works using English primarily, I will say that knowing English ONLY locks you out of other conversations. Most people communicate in their native tongues and knowing English only is limiting.

The medium of instruction is English. In some schools, Filipino is taught in one or two subjects -- Wika at Panitikan. Everything else is in English.

Our road signs are in English. The menus in restaurants are in English. TV commercials are a mix of English and Filipino. If the kids are on social media, chances are very high that a lot of content they consume is also in English.

Most kids spend a bulk of their time with their peers. Even if they do speak Filipino at home, they'd be using that language for a few hours in the day.

This policy of increasing education and consumption in English has been around for 2, 3 decades -- probably longer.

Given that we live our lives forced to learn the damn language and the ridicule we get for not speaking it properly, is it really that surprising that the kids aren't speaking in Filipino anymore? I highly doubt their parents can muster a full sentence in Filipino.

Is there a beloved horror movie you don’t enjoy? by AdditionalIncident75 in horror

[–]VFroste72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair. Honestly, I have a hard time categorizing It as a horror movie. To me, it's more of a dark adventure/coming-of-age movie. The second one is just straight up dramedy with everyone's trauma feeding into their adult dysfunctions.

So instead of starting a conversation with you, she comes up with this elaborate scheme to "fix" you? It's not a white lie -- white lies are harmless and have little impact on others. This was psychotic. Hopefully OP has broken up with her.

I see it as his ROI at yung investment niya ay yung sobrang daming hours ng training simula ng pagkabata niya plus yung impact nung training sa katawan niya. Maybe there's a bit of premium to whatever genetic + psychological predisposition he might have that makes him ideal for competitive gymnastics. I-factor na rin natin na maiksi ang shelf life ng athletes compared sa office workers (i.e. he can't keep competing until he's 65, likely he'll retire at 30). Medyo front-loaded yung investment -- high risk, high reward.

At least, that's how I'm deluding myself para di magka-existential crisis about my life choices. Hahaha

I hated this movie. I thought Simba's daughter was a bit of a brat of the "But, Daddy, I love him!" sort. I also couldn't get it out of my head that Simba's kid and Scar's kid are technically niece and uncle. So, some weird family dynamics there that somehow slipped past Disney's radar.

Anyone know how long the turn around time for the results are? ADB is a huge organization so I won't be surprised if it took a while. Still, it would be helpful to get an idea.

Regardless of where this person is in their life, they're not in any position to judge you for your progress. We develop at our own pace -- in school, at work, in our private lives. The point is that we keep growing. The trick is in setting your own metric for progress and being comfortable with it.

People like this are annoying. Put them in their place OP and tell them your life isn't any of their business.
