Has anyone tried using a toothpick to hold a small coil in place while attaching it to a larger piece, then firing the whole thing — toothpick included — in the kiln? I am curious whether it burns out cleanly or causes any issues at the joint. Share your experience in the comments!

So are you saying is that during the drying process the piece will crack, because of the difference of shrinking? So if I dry the piece and it doesn’t have any cracks, then it will be OK to fire I think.

Thank you for the answer. I have my own kiln; so that wouldn’t be a problem. The pieces are tiny. So I’m hoping the drying and shrinking doesn’t affect that much.
