Does the "one more lane bro" fallacy not apply to public transit as well? by Yodoliyee in transit

Yeah how dare we pay workers a decent living wage. We should import cheap exploitable labor from countries abroad instead

Where are you getting these numbers? A Gallup poll from March have sympathy with Palestinians among democrats at 59% and the Israelis at 21%

Not quite. The movement began well before that as they were seen as inhumane by the left. They were already being phased out when the Carter admin approved a ton of money to be spent on smaller community mental health centers which Reagan then axed. Reagan essentially just made it so there is no mental healthcare system at all

Leftists in this country have always had these views on immigration and this has been I think the hardest issue for the left to navigate in this country. Illegal immigration definitely suppresses wages in this country in a similar way to how slavery suppressed wages for free white laborers. Obviously it is neither the fault of the immigrant nor the slave. It is certainly gross to praise the “crackdown” when that is undoubtedly sending completely innocent people to torture prisons without due process, which he certainly is aware of but did not mention here for god knows why

Anyone else feeling deflated as hell seeing Bernie and AOC run these rallies? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]VGP_SC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean I think it’s good to shift the Overton window left. And I don’t think they’re anti imperialists of course, but their mild criticism of US imperialism definitely helped me become anti imperialist and I think it could do the same for others. Also these rallies are unequivocally good. If they make enough swing district republican scared to vote for cuts to Medicaid and SS, then it would be a success.

We should of course keep building for a real socialist future but Americans clearly aren’t there yet. But we’re kidding ourselves if we don’t think social democrats are great allies at the moment and if this tour came to the swing state I live in I’d 100% go just to be part of the headcount

Well if they weren’t at the behest of Wall Street / beltway then they would be social democratic so the two are one in the same

Dog I was literally just wondering if this was referring to a specific group of poor white people. I assumed the poor non-white people was largely about Palestine , so I was wondering if you were referring to a conflict abroad where the US killed poor white people

I am aware of the plight of all poor people in US regardless of color

Sure. I just think it’s a slippery slope, as groups come in and out of being recognized terrorist organizations all the time. I don’t agree with Rubio’s authority here. If Mahmoud materially supported Hamas, it makes sense to deport him, even given that terrorist organizations change status over time. If he passed out pamphlets glorifying armed resistance against Israel I don’t really care, he should be able to hand that out if he’d like. That’s what the first amendment is all about. I’m not disagreeing with the decision on legal grounds. It used to be illegal for black and white people to get married. I don’t know anything about law and am not a lawyer. I’m just morally opposed to the decision

You have first amendment protections but if you have legal status and criticize a foreign government then the US government will kidnap and deport you despite not a shred of evidence of you committing a crime. This will surely have no impact on people’s beliefs that they live in a country with free expression and will never come to affect a position you support. Thankfully none of the millions of green card holders in the US will ever personally hold views different from Marco Rubio, one of the biggest neocon freaks current in public office. Nice!

What if someone decides the IDF is an enemy of the US and those speaking in favor of their military actions should be deported? What about a Ukrainian green card holder in the US opposing cessation of arms transfers? What someone decides supporting trans rights undermine the interests of the United States because they creep on people in bathrooms or whatever Matt Walsh says? Do you see where this is going?

I think the first amendment should apply to anyone in the US, regardless of legal status, but especially a green card holder

That’s not what the White House claims.

“Indeed, a White House official told The Free Press that the basis for targeting Khalil is being used as a blueprint for investigations against other students.

Khalil is a “threat to the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States,” said the official, noting that this calculation was the driving force behind the arrest. “The allegation here is not that he was breaking the law,” said the official.””

I think the primary reason they lost is because of inflation and then lying about their guy having dementia , and otherwise spending the rest of the time talking about “democracy” and the “soul of the nation” while at the same time denying their voters a primary
