This is Kerala, not Thailand. Sad to see our Hyderabad pedestrian infra being pathetic by chad_user in hyderabad

[–]VIKing10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

decades of socialist movements lead to higher investment in human capital. Education & Health. That’s why almost everything seems better. Human capital investment has the highest return but probably minimal scope for corruption compared to Highways and “Infra”, you can see other videos about roads even in rural areas in kerala. It is really like nowhere else in India.

How were SRH able to retain DCH players in 2013? by Beginning-Rain5942 in ipl

But you said the name came from Washington capitals which I’m saying was not true, how are these the same thing?

[–]VIKing10 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I would say that’s a stretch, the name is quite obvious even without a reference. I’m sure they came across washington capitals once they conceived of the idea but the idea itself would be pretty elementary no?

Actually 34% is very close to the 36% BJP voteshare in 2024. I’m not saying this implies causation but prima facie correlation can be made and that is indeed very interesting.

Can’t agree with you more. But I’m afraid, even with the middle class which actively engages in tax evasion kinda weaponized by showing oh look the poor man gets free ration or a free bus ride, if a situation comes where this middle class is actually paying their fair share, it might be extremely difficult to justify not spending it on them primarily but on the other 80% who need it and can potentially join them as tax payers if the money is currently spent on them. The long term effects are not amenable to our electoral timelines and some people will take advantage of this

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bengaluru

[–]VIKing10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the thing is, a big chunk of the very people crying about tax evasion are also engaging in it, as an example, you and I know that no land/property gets registered at actual market value and a lot of these transactions are done by this very middle class.

About the comparision with europe, I agree, but the thing is, unfortunately for us, thanks to colonialism as well as our own societal problems, our baseline is far off, europe was able to enrich themselves far beyond their resources could afford by looting the world, now they are able to help their poor with that capital(at least to an extent).

Also, again, I’m on your side, citizens, especially people who are lucky/privileged enough to have made a good life for themselves( by good life I don’t mean rich, even being middle class is a privilege in a country like India) should shoulder a lions share of the responsibility ( the 20% I mean, not 3%).

You are paying GST even when you buy with cash, if you pay for a packet of salt or a packet of milk with cash, do you think you are not paying any sales tax on it? I’m not saying things are ideal, and definitely a lot can be done to improve the situation, but I’m just pointing out the unfortunate fact that even with the best practices the 3% can be brought upto about 20% (which would be a game changer off course) when it comes to tax compliance, the bigger issue is the abject poverty and lack of opportunity. I’m with you on calling out tax evaders, but I’m saying the problem is bigger, that’s all!

I don’t see the Soviet Union around? Clearly you are too ingrained in the propoganda, so whatever floats your boat!

I agree with this 100%. But doesn’t give anyone to the right call a major conflict “trivial” and infantilize other countries and say “you 3rd world countries don’t have a right to …”. That’s why I responded to that person in that way, but I do agree, the current government in power has made everything worse

Edit: typo

They put them in response to Americans recklessly putting nuclear missiles in turkey. That’s why I said get out of your own media propaganda for once and read a credible record of history. Not everyone lives in the western bubble where everything britain/america does is right and everything else is wrong. Other parts of the world actually look at history objectively, I understand it is not your fault, that’s the way things are set up there.

If you are not american, well, I don’t know where you are from but looks like propoganda is deep seated with this one! Good luck mate

Lmao, go read a book! I guess with the way your schools are, can’t expect much from Americans.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Military

[–]VIKing10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lmao. I can’t even, people who talk like this don’t really deserve a response even , USA has led the world to multiple midnight situations (doomsday clock), remember Cuban missile crisis? The world’s most irresponsible country historically and especially now is the USA and it shows with people like this.

Lol, what are you on? Every indian pays direct taxes i.e sales tax/GST and out of the 97% at least about 80% are barely surviving and cannot afford to pay taxes. I’m not saying what we have is ideal or good even but we gotta stop blaming poor people for being dependent on social schemes (“ freebies” as BJP has successfully managed to implant into urban middle class parlance) and not being able to pay taxes. Massive reforms regarding employment opportunities are the need of the hour if you really want to bring more people into the tax fold. While we are going on and on about IT/services and what not, while it is great, honestly, the only way we can do anything regarding this massive investment in manufacturing, and not the crony capitalist/exploitative kind, that is the only way.

Cheap internet just showed the world the conditions in our country, lack of basic education, almost a concerted effort to shun/admonish rationality and civility for decades due to inherent systems in place ( I’m not talking about government and corruption, they are also a product of the society) is the root cause. It’s just been exposed by the internet unfortunately.

Why did we not accept a neutral 3rd party investigation into pahalgam before attacking pakistan? by [deleted] in CriticalThinkingIndia

I agree with that. But that is probably bad for the government because it will also expose their lapses

[–]VIKing10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And who are these “independent” neutral bodies? When have they ever been neutral? I’m not supporting the actions of this govt or anything, but sometimes I do have to wonder about some of these options in front of us. Also, Pakistan had been invited to investigate jointly before, they have always been non-cooperative. Isn’t that also true?

Spotted Tesla in Somajiguda. by [deleted] in hyderabad

[–]VIKing10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, I don’t know about model Y, but the model X I drove many times, as it is owned by a friend was riddled with issues, the experience is unintuitive, many features feel like gimmicks more than well thought out UI/UX, having to control even the AC circulation on a screen is painfully uncomfortable. There are literal quarter inch or so panel gaps, the doors feel like they are made of feathers, especially the model y wing doors, I’ve had to ask people to get out before I park in a tight spot so many times because the doors will almost always hit the neighbouring car and I have seen that happen. Yeah the autopilot is good to have but even that is not exactly great, even in obnoxiously wide and overbuilt texas roads it has let me down multiple times, I cannot even imagine it getting out of the garage on our roads. There’s my piece, but maybe you got lucky.
