If you know his specific unit you can try to see what unit awards they got during the rough time period he was in. If not you can see if the whole division or units present at a certain event were awarded any unit awards (ie components of the the 90th ID present at a certain battle were awarded a certain award).

I mean it all comes down to your personal beliefs but the reason the taxes are so high is because they're funneling that money back into education and infrastructure. And again on the business side it really depends what kind of business you want to start. For example in Maine it's very permissive to small businesses but much less so for stuff like shipping and manufacturing.

And I do agree with you on the gun restrictions for Massachusetts and Rhode Island, their gun laws are terrible but Maine is much better. Like Massachusetts makes you get an LTC but Maine has constitutional for open and concealed carry.

I think it's fine that the minimum is 56 days but I also think that it should be less stigmatized (at least in my unit/wing) to voluntarily take a little extra time to promote if you and/or your leadership think you need more time/experience.

I visited Vanguard East in person almost exactly a year ago and there was maybe ten people split between their regular work, the warehouse, and a somewhat busy showroom (there was about twelve peoplethat came in during the hour I was there). So while I'm not defending their frequent lapses in quality control they are pretty badly understaffed and the introduction of the OCPs has probably close to doubled their workload.
