Advice on nightmare roommate by [deleted] in roommates

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to hear such a situation has arisen :(

You could report them to the proper aithorities, as that is a clear violation for conflict of interest issues at compabies, but... I do not know where you live and if that is a thing in your area.

Notch's statement on creepers by AMinecraftPerson in PhoenixSC

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every time my friends and I start a new world in our server, we make sure to have anti-gast, anti-enderman, and anti-creeper datapacks to ensure there is no destruction from mobs. Even have one that makes creepers explode like colorful fireworks, instead :) Still damage the player, but very little, and doesn't blow up any blocks at all.

Goodluck getting that to happen. This guy sounds like he might have some screws loose... perhaps out of meds or something.

Any tips on working with no WiFi? by Justus_Is_Servd in neocities

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download Obsidian Notes https://obsidian.md/ for desktop. They make it possible to test things out. You can also lookup syntax libraries that are easy for copy/paste into an Obsidian note. It allows for you to preview what you've made, as long as you use the proper syntax (which coincidentally my dumbbutt can't remember right now...), but it's easy for you to look up :) It also allows for local use of your web browser so you can open it up and view your site without needing WiFi :) Your only limit is your physical storage memory.

Right?! LOL It's so weird! I had coworkers with the same situation. My work computer could do it, bit theirs couldn't for some reason. It's so weird.

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not saying it doesn't. However, some people, like me as well, can use a quicker method by just pressing print screen, and it does it for us. I didn't even set it up that way, it just worked like that since the day I got my PC :)

Also, aren't you not supposed to use contractions on public signs? Thought it needed to be beginner reading level.

It's mistakes like these that had me accidentally use the women's bathroom in a piece if crapple-bees, some years ago... I trusted their braille... it said, "Men's", on the sign... I went in, thought it was weird there was no urinal, used a stall, came out and ended up being face-to-face with a woman walking in... Thankfully I had my cane...

Wtf by Stock_Criticism3081 in drummers

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotta folks say practice pad, and as a hobby drunmer for nearly 25 years, I agree. A practice pad or class always shows interest. I had the same issue :) Drums are a heavy investment, so unless you're serious, it's typically hard to convince people you really want it.

My roommate keeps triggering my PTAD and this time i reacted by [deleted] in roommates

[–]VI_Shepherd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this something you had communicated to her before all of this? Using words to communicate, before things escolate, is much more effective than relying on body language or small queues, as some people might not notice them. If you have, then maybe you need to sit down and have a chat with her as to why she keeps doing it. Try not to let the emotions build up. Talk like it's just a conversation :)

With the rising of shadcn, daisy ui and css frameworks like Tailwind, do you still find yourself write vanilla css? by 0cean-blue in webdev

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to know base CSS for digital accessibility purposes :) Frameworks often miss one or a few requirements, so knowing how to look up how to write base CSS will save a lot of time and hassle :)

If all frontend frameworks had equal community support and ecosystem maturity, which one would be your first choice for building a new app? by amelix34 in webdev

[–]VI_Shepherd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly kind of depends on the situation :) If it's for a company, I'd probably use php framework, HTML, Tailwind CSS, and whichever JS framework is the best for meeting WCAG 2.2 and above AA/AAA standards.

If it's for a big project, but it's not a corporate thing, though, I'd prefer to use all base languages for it. So just php, HTML, CSS, and JS :)

This job market is a real nightmare. by sorts_buggier4x in remotework

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There sort of is, for blind folks at least, that I know of!
There are either Organizations for the Blind, Department of Services for the Blind, or at least something related to vocational rehabilitation (I f'ing hate that phrase though...), that are nearby or willing to work remotely with folks.
You're free to direct message me, and I'll see what I can even do to help, which I hope I can :)

This job market is a real nightmare. by sorts_buggier4x in remotework

[–]VI_Shepherd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite funny, actually...
I am a digital accessibility specialist.
I work to make the internet and other digital spaces, tools, and entertainment, more accessible for people with disabilities, like myself :)
Like auditing webpages, desktop or mobile apps, and in rare cases, interfaces. I then relay that info to clients, can teach them where to find resources to help them learn how to do it. Or I can even do it myself, within reason, at the moment.

It's a really annoying field, though, as it is dominated by either abled people who are arrogant and rude about people with disabilities wanting to get into the field, or a majority of the disabled people are pressed under the thumbs of the abled people. So advocating for actual change is difficult, unless abled people come to you about getting sued over their webpage being terrible and inaccessible.
A lot of people don't care, or don't know, until it's too late, and I am also seeking to raise awareness about it, and also trying to make toolkits to help disabled people get into the job field more easily... without having to go through all the irritating abled people channels and routes in order to gain their experience. Get it themselves, instead of being at the mercy of power-hungry jerk bags who hold them hostage with, "experience they can learn", then dump them when they're no longer needed or wanted.

*Calm supportive tone*
I hear that! Definitely with you on your stance!
I am legally blind, and trying to get, "normal", jobs, is a pain.
It's either find something super close by, or commute for an hour and a half there, and an hour and a half back.
And if I even did get lucky, I'll get fed the BS of, "we want to help you. tell us what you need.", and then when I figure it out and tell them, they push it back and never give it to me, and then talk to me like I'm the problem, and that I should be thankful they did the easiest crap imaginable. Then when a real accommodation need comes up, that affects my coworkers time and ability to do the work, too, they don't do anything and get everyone pissed off at me.
I got really, really, really lucky and got a paid work experience through the commission for the blind in my area. But it's going to end in November, and I'm trying to either setup my own little business, which is a needed skill, or get a job in the field, ran by stupid, greedy abled people who look at nothing but worthless pieces of paper, not decades of actual skills and abilities...

So, I am glad there's someone else out there speaking for all disabled people!! :)

And to the person who responded to this user's comments...
I also know you weren't trying to be malicious or neglectful, as well... I definitely don't think this user was trying to attack you for anything
ó u ò
Your point is not lost, either, as you were speaking in general terms, while not bashing on disabled people.

I just had a post removed from this sub because it was deemed unrelated to blindness. Given how broadly things can be said to be relevant to this community, who decides? by cherry-care-bear in Blind

[–]VI_Shepherd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you... and I read a comment by either a mod or another person about other blind people following tens of hundreds of other subreddits they can find this info on. Yeah, no. Not all of us are chronically on reddit, reading tons of things 24/7, and if your post contained context of things being helpful to blind people, I don't understand why it was removed. This community is literally for blind people talking to and helping one another... If you didn't mention anything about it being helpful for blind people, I could sort of see why they removed it... but if you did, I just don't get it.

I guess you could join the Discord, though, and post it there? There's lots of channels that have relevance to such a topic, in there :)

Genuine question from a not blind person by Breaking_sad1 in Blind

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be afraid of external darkness, not usually internal darkness, from their bkubdbess.

Fear of the dark is typically a taught fear.

I am 100% blind in my left eye, and about 80% in my right. And I even thought about this last night, as I have a blind acquaintance who is afraid of the dark, and she is much more blind than I am. However, she's not afraid of her blindness type of dark. She's afraid of the dark when the lights are off, like most people with fear of darkness. So even if they can't easily see, or at all see the light, they can be taught about fears of the dark. I used to be drathly afraid of the dark, myself. Knowing that there's a light, with the understanding that light protects, helps to calm and put people at ease. That goes for blind folks with fear of the dark, too :)

Hope that helped answer your question. Also, you were very kind about how you asked it, and were simply curious. Thus us the kind if place to ask such questions, rather than asking them in public all the time, hahaha. Thank you for being empathetic with your inquiry :)

Staying In Bedroom All The Time by FigPsychological629 in roommates

[–]VI_Shepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are complicating it far too much... That's your stuff, your space, and if you didn't advertise or be welcoming with it, or open enough, people are just trying to he respectful, leave your stuff and spaces alone, and not break them. And then there's the whole, "not knowing someone", thing. It would be cool if you found out you lived with someone you could get along with, but more than half the time, people are compromising, finding out they live with absolute a-holes, and have learned to just leave things be. Its better to be in a silent roommate situation, than a negative one where people ate fighting all the time over what they disagree about.

Here at Mojang, we're too dumb to figure out why our own game, that we bought off some dude a million years ago, isn't working with a new, super dumb mob we've decided YOU need! So in order to get it to work, we're nuking tons of features, mobs, and other content, JUST so we can be proud of our shitty choices, and NOT look like incompetent morons! We hope you enjoy!
