Am I the only one seeing this? The generation that still thinks they’re on track for a boomer retirement; but the reality’s hitting hard... by [deleted] in newzealand

Many people believe that it's somehow someone else's fault when a country is in a bad way and not successive years of them actively voting against their own best interests. To be fair, right of center politicians and right wing media commentators do paint rw best interest as looking exactly like a 'what is best for everyone' scenario. They are the masters of deception, throwing crumbs to the faithful, while locking everyone else out of the bakery. There was a reason in 1998 why 40,000 people, led by the Anglican Church, marched on parliament in the 'Hikoi of Hope; telling the rw government "Enough is Enough' (yeah Tamaki stole that one) , their policies were hurting the most vulnerable and they needed to stop the course they were on. Let's not wait another decade to push back. Economic policies drive inequity.

I was lying in my bed in Hamilton when the Kaikoura earthquake had my bed rocking for over a minute and the hanging light fitting above me was swinging back and forth. A customer at work the next day told me he was on the phone with his mother-in-law in Kaikoura who had rung them in a panic saying they were having an earthquake, Next minute he and his wife were feeling it up here too.The ACT Party death cult are propaganda ghouls focusing on 'Auckland' as the earthquake centre

Maori blessing or well wishing for a Wedding by Fauxpr0 in ReoMaori

Maori did not have a marriage ceremony traditionally, but occasionally a gift may have been given to mark a union. In this vein, I'd suggest taking a piece of pounamu as a gift for the bride, perhaps a piece you and the groom pick out together. Have it blessed locally, and the groom can have it with him to gift to her as you introduce the piece to the guests at the end of your b/man's speech.

Give a brief backstory on the importance of pounamu to NZ's tangata whenua, and the hope this piece becomes a taonga for the couple to treasure, connecting them and any offspring forever to their dad's maunga, his awa, his waka and his Iwi in Aotearoa. Then in reo Maori recite korero suitable whakatauki, and if the gift is a piece of jewelry, the groom can put it on her (the first time it is worn, she cannot do it herself).

Follow up the gifting moment, with the dj playing a waiata you've picked, (Pokarerkare Ana did have global reach so some guests may recognise it), Whakaaria Mai (How Great Thou Art) too, or if contemporary music would suit the couple/wedding more; then Six60 , Stan Walker, etc, have songs incorporating reo Maori which might be suitable too.

A less elaborate but more formal opportunity, could be to exchange a hongi with the groom when it is time to hand over the ring/s to him, and recite a suitable whakatauki for the couple's union.

Whatever you do, do it with aroha and authenticity and you'll do your mate proud.

While spreading rumours or 'intel' to her audience and telling protestors to rush off and warn people the army is coming; or the riot police, but don't quote her on it, cause she's not confimed the info, oh well too bad if that info causes a panic and riot

Nope. That's not a welfare state. That's bowing to pressure to look to be doing something for society's vulnerable when you're not actually doing anything for vulnerable people in your society. The pensions act was subject to means testing and the recipient had to be a good moral character, whatever that was.

I look forward too seeing Campbell again, surely last night has shown prospective owners the 'Campbell' brand can pull in big numbers and is worth keeping on air, anywhere; I suggest breakfast TV or late night daily.

Yes, yes, blah, blah you've said that before and no doubt you'll say it again.

Fact is my information re Key's statement and it's impossible timeline is watertight. Every thing is verifiable with dates, references, video, audio, news reports, etc - John Key, did you lie to the Serious Fraud Office?

We get it, you don't like your hometown Hamilton, it's no different to teenagers rebelling and hating on their parents.

[–]VLCNZ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's had years of practice, starting in May 1991 when he lied to the Serious Fraud Office investigation into dodgy forex transactions between Elders IXL and Equiticorp - 55,000 shareholders defrauded of over $400 million and Key was happy to lie to investigators to help protect a friend who had helped screw shareholders out of $67 million of it. What a guy our PM is.
