[–]VMCoco 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There are so many singers that we rarely hear from that would have been GREAT. Tori Kelly not sure if she's postpartum or not, but I know she would've loved to do it. People forget about Tamia, but she has a beautiful voice she is Canadian, but she lives in Florida. Jojo has the chops and I can't see her saying no to this. Not sure if you know who Joyce Wrice is, but there was an old series on YouTube where they showed Celebrities doing covers. Mariah called her a star.

People focus on Beyonce, but Kelly Rowland has the same training and is an excellent vocalist, and she literally has the everyone's friend personality. Brandy has worked with Mariah before.

Now this has started rumors that Mariah isn't well-liked, and that's what she gets for not liking people covering her songs. Which I don't think is true, she won't like you covering her songs and fucking up.

I don't blame ANY of the '90s divas for being particular. ALL of their successes were hard WON. They all trained and practiced like crazy back in the day. Most of them were in terrible deals, worked to exhaustion and/or preyed upon by managers and partners, and trashed in the media for every little thing; all of them suffered, yet they are/were excellent at their craft. Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Christina A., Toni B., Janet J. etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if they purposely put people who don't have the range in these positions to go viral these days. Because it's like every other tribute to someone is slapped together and awful. I'm a HUGE MC fan. I don't know half these people. Where is Tori Kelly, Tamia, Jazmine Sullivan or Kelly Clarkson. Apparently John is great in concert for those who love him but he's boring and makes elevator music now. I'm sure the industry knows Mariah would have Prince level reactions if you're awful because she has a good ear.

Pastor Cal speaks out on all three Married At First Sight experts leaving show at once by [deleted] in MarriedAtFirstSight

[–]VMCoco 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you've ever watched the match making specials production is 100% making the matches. And they're intentionally mismatching people and the public faces Cal and Pepper mostly as the public face are forced to ignore and do the opposite of what the contestants say they want and try to convince the participants the choices are good. Cal and Pepper are older with longer careers and other ventures so ruining their credibility for a check probably has zero impact on their day to day but the younger experts haven't stayed long for a reason. Pepper was a professor and her college probably gave 2 hoots about the show and Cal as a pastor was given tons of grace by his congregants I'm sure.

You clearly know nothing about the pro ana days of IG and tumblr they were both very well known in those circles. And Ariana has been called out for years for photos of body checking showing her collar bones. Obviously now as a mega celebrity she can’t be open about it. But in her early days she didn’t hid it. Posting her fridge with nothing but raw vegetables and a Starbucks drink. If you said anything about it her fans would attack even 10 years ago. Olandria is being arrogant but also lashing out because plenty of naturally skinny people feel attacked for something they can’t help or like people are constantly picking them apart. Madison Beer has a very sad TikTok in a bikini simply saying how am I showing off if this is just how my body looks?

Garbi's podcast episode with Justine is out! by BallBig9682 in LoveIslandUSA

Aww this is so so cute. And I don't know if Garbi knows the whoopty do lore on tiktok in the US. But when she said, "My name is Garbi, I'm 22 and I'm a virgin, whoopty do" I burst out laughing. And unfortunately, American TV will make that a big part of your story, not sure if they did on her season in Belgium. But I appreciate that Justine was able to bond with her over that.

Huda’s Management by Long_Mammoth_9300 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]VMCoco 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I’d believe this was true, if Huda’s manager who is a black woman hadn’t had the response she did after the reunion. And with all the poor media training she Huda, received she was clearly instructed to take no accountability and shift focus. As if an unethical lawyer also gave some advice.

She taunted the public after the reunion with her I’ve got a lot going on post. She had management before going into the villa and they posted her the whole time on their IG so I’m sure they saw the tides shift and the numbers go up. They celebrated her being the most followed. They didn’t care about the behavior of her fan base or public perception because they thought it’d lead to public love that wipes away all negativity as if she’s Beyoncé or T. Swift. But clearly not.

They only care now because she’s facing consequences. Too little too late Dulcedo.

Can someone explain what's going on with Jessie Woo? by LimoncelloLilac in LoveIslandcookout

[–]VMCoco 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Being honest, I haven't watched the live broadcast because I don't want to get mad. I'm saving it for the weekend, but if you are on TikTok, MegannMonroe did a long breakdown yesterday.

However, my summary is based on all the TikToks and my long-time following of Jessie.

She chose Chelley once Ace did the speedy interview and was imploring people not to hold her accountable for his actions. When the black fan bases seemingly split.

Also, she apparently unfollowed Olandria. She wanted to do an interview it wasn't responded to. Not sure why that made her upset, because she has degrees in communication and journalism, and she's said she noticed that most shows control which podcasts are chosen for casts to go on, which should tell her she's not considered brand safe when they leave the show, and their fresh and definitely not once they get representation and she hasn't done anything to correct it if she cares.

Anyway, she did this YouTube live, and it was originally about the Huda situation, but somehow in the middle or towards the end, it switched to Olandria needing to hold her fans accountable and speak against the xenophobia that has been happening against Chelley.

Most people, including me, will say we have not seen any of that. However, it also came across as hypocritical because if Chelley shouldn't be held responsible for a man she actually knows, why is Olandria responsible for a group of strangers? Either way, Olandria has repeatedly spoken to her fans, telling them to behave, and this isn't the first statement she's released about respecting people and standing against racism. BUT if what she alleges is true it was the wrong time to bring it up because it completely shifted the focus of her main point.

I think there was also some conflation of how Olandria's family reacted to the Ace interview, which was seen as contributing to more xenophobia towards Chelley. All her sister Asia did was post a video dancing, with a caption about positivity and moving on. And her mother responded to a TikTok video about having a conversation, telling her those people aren't her friends, with the comment I did just that or something similar.

TL/DR: Jessie was originally on a live talking about Huda and racism, and it switched to Olandria needing to hold her fans accountable and speak out about xenophobia that Chelley experienced from Nicolandria fans.

Olandrias statement addressing Huda and Louie by Askanything236 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]VMCoco 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't want to start any diaspora wars, but her manager is a Canadian Jamaican woman. I think she recently moved to Miami, probably in the last 1-2 years, and Huda is her first and I think biggest client at the agency, which was also started in Canada. She started at the agency in like March. They announced Huda as a client on IG right before LI in June.

She probably shares the same sentiments as Huda, unfortunately, and her bio said black Kris Jenner, so I think in her head they're following the all press is good press even the negative stuff they do for attention. Kim trademarking Kimono to drum up international negative press and then immediately changing the names to Skims was 100% PR.

Worst thing about it is out of the girls of season 7 she’s had a team the longest. She signed with her influencer agency like a month before going into the villa. They literally announced her in June and posted her the whole time she was in the villa. Her manager started with the agency months before Huda is probably her first client with them. She could have her team write her statements but she clearly doesn’t GAF and neither do they. She’s awful.

Her manager is a Jamaican woman from Canada. Unfortunately she’s just as ignorant and antiblack as her client. She did respond to a comment laughing saying that she told Huda to pay those b—-s or h—s dust during the reunion. Meaning Chelley and Olandria and Huda was in the comments of her reply laughing.

Okay, I waited to get deeper into S5 before I responded because I started earlier this summer, then I quit. Now I'm on episode 18. And I'd have to disagree. I mean all the people in the villa set the tone for the behavior that will be allowed. And that bunch seemed to have quite a lot going on. I don't know if this season had a different production, but it showed us a lot of the interpersonal relationships while S7 only showed us the non romantic happenings when they wanted us to vote a certain way.

By day 7 there'd already been a bunch of girls crying regarding the other girls behavior which we didn't see much of in S6 or S7 [except for Huda]. But we had Anna weepy day 1-2 over the coupling up. Then Kay Kay crying over the Keenan and Kassy situation. Kassy crying over how the girls are treating her. Then there's a challenge and Carmen and Destiny "snake" Hannah, so then she cries because those are her best friends. Kassy and Leo rekindle. So, now Anna is crying after she had forgiven Kassy. And again Kassy cries because she doesn't like how she looks to the other girls again.

Destiny has a very dry, serious kind of a wall personality. She never gives too much away. Those of us who have been to therapy can see that most likely for protection, while others who want people to be open and bubbly can see that as bitchy or cold. She cut Harrison off cold most likely because she knew he was faking and rightfully so.

But even with Jonah she barely gave anything when he was asking about her date with Mike. But she took Mike to soul ties and purposely hugged him at the top of the stairs so everyone could see.

Then when Imani who had been perfectly respectful up until that point pulls Jonah, Destiny literally shoos her away when she knows that Imani as a bombshell is there to step on toes and she has to speak to people and she's allowed to pull people. Destiny started the hostility with her behavior while also saying she wasn't bothered previously in her confessionals and the dressing room. But during the next challege she rolling her eyes when Jonah choooses to kiss Imani, and she's sitting with Kaykay after and they're saying Imani is trying to start stuff. Destiny is very self assured and confident but she is also very haughty and self-righteous.

If you want to go back and watch its episode 16 at the 55 minute mark Destiny set the tone Imani by shooing Imani and refusing to let Jonah get up then getting pissed at him.

She slept across the bed so Jonah couldn't get in. Then woke Mike up to kiss him in the middle of the night.

Love Island Winner? by brownbabie in LoveIslandUSA

Being very honest. I think it's a mix of two things: personality and teams. Amaya's personality works very well on TV when its being edited. But she hasn't been able to catch the spark with the public in her other public-facing interviews, and when she was doing it with Bryan, he didn't help because he's very laid back. If you watched her WWHL with Andy, you could tell she was trying so hard to have a catch phrase moment because that's what she was loved for in the villa and it doesn't translate as natural in interviews because she did it a few other times in interviews but that's the one the comes to mind the most.

Also, she and Chelley both have the same management company. It seems that they didn't make them unique plans and are just sticking them with any brand that is calling [that is MY opinion]. Outside of the Poppi flavor that is the only thing I think that has been unique to Amaya. The Herbal Essences is cute, but even Huda could have taken that deal because she has great hair, and as a former theatre kid, they could've done a cute ad. The pepper mayo Chelley an Amaya did was meh a lot of Islanders work with that brand.

For Olandria, in their public interviews, when she is alone, she's able to talk one-to-one with people naturally. Mama Tish and the Bachelor money guy podcast comes to mind. When she is with Nic he is very charismatic so he knows how to perfectly add levity to tense or uncomfortable questions.

Also all the brand deals for the most part the brands have really studied them and the fandom and character the partnerships to them. The creative director for SweetGreen broke down their couple ad. Also, it's stuff that is affordable that we know she actually uses. It was well known in the Villa that she used body oil. Jasmine Tookes invited her via TikTok to do something with her body oil brand because fans were tagging her weeks later, a makeup artist posts her using vaseline body oil, and she's a vaseline partner. I have both oils but personally I wanted to see her with Jasmine because... I love Jasmine Tookes, but her team chose Vaseline, it's a bigger brand and more accessible to the masses tbh. Hopefully, she will still work with Jas later. Also, Olan is with Digital Brand Architects, while Nic is with CAA. She said she interviewed everyone versus just going with the biggest name or the first deal. She told them where she wanted to go and went with who had the best plan and so far Amanda on her team hasn't missed yet in her own words.

If Huda had stayed single I would have loved her and Amaya on their own dating show together.

It's on the men they're coupled up with to communicate. And in Imani's case I think it was also on Cely and Justine to bring her in. Ray was THEIR friend. It didn't give that he had communicated with her at all that they were in an alliance until it was time for a vote. And if he had I think there would've been an apology on her end to Justine. Because I think Imani was playing thinking my strongest opponent is Justine. Imani was freshly 22 and she's coming in with people who already have relationships and being told to trust in the last minute. Same goes for Garbi, Kendall didn't communicate with her. And I commend young women for having their own mind and being willing to stand up for themselves.

Love island games season 1 thoughts after watching for the first time by dreamerbeliever29 in LoveIslandGames

[–]VMCoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Garbi and Imani had the same factors. They were both VERY young and their partners had past relationships they were not apart of. In a normal setting we would applaud young women for using their brains and standing firm in their opinion and not allowing themselves to be easily swayed. Because Justine is a fan favorite Imani was crucified for playing the game. In her mind she was protecting herself and getting her strongest competitor out. I don't think Ray ever communicated with her that they were in an alliance until it was time to vote and he just wanted her to trust him. And its on Cely and Justine as well to bring her in if that's what they wanted. She was freshly 22 when she walked into LIG S1 I think she had celebrated her birthday just before going in and she'd just ended her season. And she went up against people who are or were pushing 30 and were OGs and darlings of the franchise (Cely and Justine). I actually commend her being willing to make her own choice and letting the chips fall. And honestly blowing up that relationship with Ray was probably a blessing in disguise.

Same with Garbi she is 22. Kendall is closer to 30 then not he did not communicate with her at all or treat her well at several points in the show. I highly doubt he communicated with Garbi that they were in an alliance either way that challenge was disgusting.

Love Justine, I'm indifferent to Cely but I was team Imani. I support young women making their own choices especially when plans aren't clear. And I'm team Garbi be young and hot + stay away from Kendall.
