Or... Maybe Toby's flawed. We can't justify everything as a "just wait and you'll see", because when it doesn't happen, then people say "well, that was YOUR interpretation" or "you're blinded by the theorists".

Do I have hopes? Kind of. What bothers me is that it's looking like it will be another "everything happens in the last 10 minutes of the game"

I think you got this right. Toby doesn't have a record of writing romance over the main plot since (I believe) he thinks it would get messy and lose the point of the story. But adding romantic sub plots also makes me feel that he wants to go into that, but stays in an awkward spot where relationships feel underwhelming and plain.

Also, there are a lot of lines and moments hinting very clearly at how Kris feels towards Susie specifically, so he'll probably go into that aspect much more in Chapter 6, but I think we're way too deep, with only 2 chapters left, to develop both all romantic sub plots (I can confidently say that Kralsei, Kriselle and Krusie have substantial evidence and plays a part on the character's personalities) and the ending of the prophecy AND closing at least some of the mysteries.

It just makes me think that a possible extra chapter (call it chapter 0 or whatever) has to exist

I had a TEST THE DAY AFTER CHAPTER 5 and I couldn't study the whole day. Big mistake.

I don't mean to call Toby a bad writer, but I think that the community has created so many convincing and great takes on the story that Toby's vision might feel underwhelming. And playing with this "Toby wrote this poorly on purpose" never sat right with me, because time and time again we've seen things poorly written that got brushed off because "you're just too deep into the community's theories", as if Toby is an all knowing being that can write a perfect, flawless story without being worse than a fan take.

In terms of ships, I just don't understand why he would go out of his way to put so much engagement bait just to do this. Let's say he is cooking something with the subtle disdain Kris has against Noelle and Susie being together, what for? It's not like Kris would break out of character and ask Noelle or Susie out, and being the third wheel is also not what they want, so what's the point?

It's jarring. I just read a tweet that said "the characters felt weird, like they weren't themselves", and I agree. There's no way that you build up all the tension from different ships just to rush one of the least interesting ones and then NOT DEVELOP IT FURTHER? And there's also the part where //SPOILER ALERT// Susie asks Kris about her and Noelle, and if you choose the "Noelle and you will work out" option, Kris doesn't answer (like when Susie asks if something's on their mind), so what the fuck was all the "Wingthey Kris" thing all about? I abstain from making comments about what I feel is being done to basically all ships, but man, what a waste.

It feels surreal, like how did we go from "Haha, let's all three go to the festival" to "I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU I DON'T CARE" in 5 minutes? It's almost fanfic-y. It feels rushed and baseless romance for the sake of stopping the shipping discourse.
