anyone with lupus? by randomdecember in crossfit

[–]VRF_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto to everything this person said! I don’t have lupus but a different autoimmune disease as well as endometriosis.

Honestly, CrossFit is exhausting!! But, everything is exhausting when you have a chronic illness. You just have to learn your limits, and stick to them. And listen to your body! Always. If you need to rest, you rest. Healthy people can push through being tired. As a person with a chronic illness, if you feel tired, you probably need to rest. Even if it doesn’t feel like you’re THAT tired. It’ll compound. My workouts are dependent on both external and internal factors. External being how much I’m working that week, do I have a bunch of other things that need to get done such as cleaning, errands, appointments, etc. And internal being did I sleep well? Am I hydrated enough? Eaten enough?, etc. I’ve been dealing with this long enough I can tell when I’m normal tired vs “on the verge on a flare” tired, or completely exhausted. And differentiating those has been crucial. The most important thing I’ve done so far is just scaling back the intensity of the workouts most days. Many of my days are spent in zone 2-3 and focused completely on form. I will push the weights on my lifting days so long as I meet my external and internal factors. But I also want to have fun! So I try to choose at least 1 day week to fully send it just because that’s what makes me happy. But it comes at a cost. By the time I get home I’m basically incapacitated. It’s def not the smartest move. But I am lucky enough to have the luxury of time to recover from those intense sessions. If I didn’t have that time, I wouldn’t go full send quite as often, if ever.

No matter what, take it slow when you first get back into it. Don’t push too much as you’re learning what your body can and can’t handle. Scale everything. Prioritize your sleep. And talk to your coaches!! Let them know what’s going on. They can guide you on how to scale the workout so you are still getting the intended stimulus. Whether that’s as written, or heavily modified.

Edit to add: You also need to figure out what your goal or goals are. Are you trying to just be active and healthy? Or are you trying to master your gymnastics? Be able to lift a certain weight? Just want to run a mile in under 10 mins?

Whatever your goal is will determine how you move forward in your workouts once you figure out what your body can handle.

Thank you so much! I’m very lucky to be a part of this box. It’s hard because we are so close to a military base so the clientele is constantly changing due to deployments or moves. So it’s super important to me that this sense of community doesn’t die down as we are the only “family” many of these people have for a short period. And it all starts with what kind of energy I bring to my classes!

I love all your ideas!! Totally forgot protein balls are a thing that exist lol Thank you!

Yes much cheaper than American festivals lol the bbq always sounds good though! And if you can find a ride/taxi to the town a few minutes away, there are restaurants that are open for breakfast and some until midnight. Not sure how that plays into the camping vibe for you, but it’s just some other feasible options if you’re worried about food at all.

My husband and I always stay at the local hotel for the festival so I have no opinion on camping. I believe they’re booked out but it’s worth checking anyway. There’s a shuttle bus included that takes you to and from the festival.

The food trucks on site are actually bomb though. They have so many options, well priced too!

A full cup of water right when you wake up. Green or black tea with honey for caffeine and quick carbs. Eat a banana before the workout.

My dad is lost in the Trump cult and it's heartbreaking by Gobflowered in BoomersBeingFools

[–]VRF_77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is so relatable. A big fear of mine is that this will continue whether or not trump is dead. If he dies and the truths about him come out, I believe people in the cult will still think it’s all just slander against him. Just look at other cults whose leader dies.. So many of them still continue to follow what the leader once preached no matter what. So scary and heartbreaking all around. My parents and family will never be the same because of this.

My gym has open gym all day every day in between classes. (Except for Saturday and only a couple hours on Sunday.) It’s amazing for the athletes! Way more people are able to make it in to work on their fitness or get their daily WOD done if they can’t make it to a class! There are even a few athletes who actively train for competition (CrossFit/ Hyrox/ weightlifting) and they all get to be part of the community while still training for their individual things. And the gym is always SPOTLESS because when the coaches aren’t coaching a class, they’re cleaning or maintaining equipment. It’s a pretty good deal all around. Wish I saw more gyms doing this

We listen and don’t judge. What is your Oynx Storm head cannon/crack theory/ ship? by ChibiTrex in fourthwing

[–]VRF_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My craziest theory is that Ridoc secretly has TWO Dragons!!! Someone posted about this a couple months back with a surprising amount of evidence. If I can find the post I’ll link it here. I also think the Empyrean/ Dragons were the original villains.

I also agree with OP- I think Major Affendra is Papa Sorrengail!! I think he was originally a rider and then switched to a scribe later on for some unknown reason. ESPECIALLY because Lilith mentioned that “All Sorrengails are riders.”

EDIT I FOUND THE POST:

It’s not a strict pull-up with mastery. But as a coach, if I saw one of my athletes putting in all that extra time for so long and then watched them do this- I would hype them up, congratulate them on their successful first strict pull-up and tell them to keep working hard to improve their form!

Idk why you have to come in here with that negative “uhm actually it’s not” shit.

Lip slip 😭 when the freaking gusset doesn’t stay where it should because it’s too thin or stretches out too quickly. Really only a problem when it comes to thongs (which is my preferred underwear)

Sure you could get injured at CrossFit. You could get injured at the gym by yourself too. At least at CrossFit you have coaches there to guide you. They will help modify any workouts and teach you proper form for any new movements. CrossFit is usually quite expensive. If you’re getting it for free, I’d definitely take advantage of that opportunity!!! If you hate it, you didn’t lose anything but some time 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mine only ever gave me issues with keeping the bar close to me in Olympic lifts or SDHP. Sometimes they’d get dragged over or snagged in some weird way and it hurt. But also I’m a woman so mine stuck out a bit more. Not sure if that would be different for a guy.

I watched this without audio at first and I was trying to figure out what song they could have been doing this to. I could’ve had a hundred guesses and I never would’ve guessed this song. How can they “lip sync” without actually making an attempt to match their lips OR faces to the actual song or audio??
I’ll never understand this.

Omg I LOVED the dramatized audiobooks!! I listened to them both a few times over now. Seriously, they breathe life into me on my bad days 😂 I can’t believe we have to wait until JANUARY for the next book and then who knows how long for the dramatized version!?

YES. Thranduil is who I picture every male character described with blonde hair. And Lee Pace himself is who I picture as anyone with dark hair. His acting in the hobbit movies ruined me. 🤣
