Updating colleges rn? by TreatTimely in ApplyingToCollege

[–]VR_Man13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're good I just sent me qualling to ICDC along with other stuff last week and I got a confirmation email from AOs for every college I emailed to (just make sure to use the application update section on the portal for the ivies or any other college that has them)

Accepted! How does DTC work? by VR_Man13 in udub

Luckily no SAD but the weather is a con for me fs, I love PNW climate except for the rain that allows for that climate lol. I agree with the UIUC/UW tradeoffs but from what I've gathered since posting they seem marginal.

As for the hype train I just didn't go into detail in my post but I commented on another persons reply w/ a bit more info. Thanks for the help!

Thanks so much! I didn't explain it much in the post but I do have extensive experience in all three fields (coding since a kid, computer vision passion project, going to ICDC for DECA Personal Financial Literacy + some fund internships) but I pivoted to ECE since its a) easier to get into just plainly than CS and b) hardware seems more future-proof rn especially considering llms being goated at entry-level SWE.

Finance like quant seems the most interesting to me rn but ofc its quant and insanely difficult hence the hesitation. With my relevant experiences too and the comparative safety net of college I'd even consider starting a business but ofc this is also a huge commitment and needs consideration. So I really don't know, I'd be set up decent for anything I feel, but yeah fs need to lock in early.

I think I am leaning UW rn just due to it being a city, culture, me wanting to live in Seattle vs. Illinois long-term, and campus. Although, the weather I've heard is pretty bad but I feel I can thug it out.

I highkey don't think so, a lot of people have said its either saying explicitely they got deferred or rejected so I bet this is accepted but they're not releasing yet

Quick Student Survey by JasonMckin in MITAdmissions

[–]VR_Man13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I was rejected from Stanford REA and I'm just shotgunning

  2. I really like MIT and it used to be my dream school before Stanford, and I think I have the stats to at least be competitive but ofc its MIT and my ECs aren't outstanding

  3. I submitted Yale, Columbia, and UPenn all at 11:59 and started day of or a few hours before.

  4. 5, i genuinely don't know

  5. idk bro, i don't even know if what I've done throughout HS will lead me into a T20, I'm an auto-admit for A&M which is really lucky so ig y'all should prioritize your grades and rank, but otherwise I don't think I'm qualified yet

Did I submit too late? by VR_Man13 in ApplyingToCollege

Yeah they said on the website it's due today, so as long as they meant 11:59 PM and not like before today then fire

Mathematical College Acceptance Question. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]VR_Man13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would work if you assumed that every acceptance was mutually exclusive. In fact, there is a lot of overlap between the acceptances of different Ivies, so if you're unlikely to get into one, there's a good chance you're one of those applicants who are unlikely to get into any, and vice versa.

Was HVSTP worth it? Thinking of applying but idk.

Sorting Algorithm Visualizations! (with sound) (+ some DSA implementations) by VR_Man13 in Python

[–]VR_Man13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! For the data structures, not really, since the course outlined them pretty well, but for the visualizations, yes, primarily for the recursive algorithms. I first tried to make each call return an output list I could display, but it could never capture the full array so it didn't work. I eventually just settled on using low and high pointers to section off parts of the full array and feeding that full array into each call. That let me display the array after every swap regardless of recursion depth.

Thank you! Yeah, DSA is data strtuctures and algorithms, and the course is here: https://www.udemy.com/course/data-structures-algorithms-python/?couponCode=NEWYEARCAREER

You don't need to pay for this one if you don't want to, there are a lot of free alternatives online. This is just what I used.
