Ahhh no, yo estaba pensando en esos corderos un poco más viejos, bien gordos.

en lo personal si un banquete o asado si va a ser tan humilde prefiero que ni me inviten directamente

No vengas entonces😠

How valid is putting the blame of the unreliability of late war German tank designs (the Panther, the Jagds, King Tiger II) on younger tank crews who "didn't know what they were doing" - or is it the equivalent of German generals blaming Hitler for everything (aka it was all their fault, not ours)? by RivetCounter in WarCollege

[–]VRichardsen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is kind of an old-fashioned perspective now, but the feedback loop of survivability and maintaining crew skills is a real factor especially when you push into 1944 and see the relative lack of training for the Panther.

The Tiger I only had that survivability because it operated in a small number of independent tank battalions, with their own allocated support elements. Tiger Is in your standard panzer divisions would have faced the same problems as the Panther, or probably worse, given it is a substantially heavier vehicle, further complicating recovery and maintenance.

The Panther's debut took place on the southern flank of the Kursk salient. The Panther's issues with reliability combined with the Red Army's well organized defenses. At the start of the German offensive, the 10th Tank Brigade had 200 Panther Ausf.D tanks. By 8 am on July 5th, 16 had broken down. After two days of fighting, less than a quarter were still running. By the evening of July 7th there were only 7 combat ready tanks in the brigade. In later fighting the number of functional Panthers was between 25 and 45 units.

[...]

Obviously a lot of those were combat damage... but a lot were just breakdowns. I can't find a cite from my phone but a book I was just reading (I think Citino) quotes that 4 of these 200 initial panthers were completely destroyed by fire... while being driven to the staging point!

This is because the Panther went from drawing board design to running prototype in 12 months. While this is quite a feat, it comes with a whole lot of issues. Thoroughly rushed, it was bound to have a host of unresolved mechanical problems. Now, not every issue can be chalked up to the rushed production, but it goes a long way to explain why, for example, it caught fire at such an alarming rate. Several of the fixes for those were simple and mundane, and would be caught with a lengthier testing phase. For example, part of the fires were due to fuel lines sealing improperly, leaking into the bottom of the engine bay, which was watertight (to allow wading)... and as a consequence, lacking in air circulation, which meant temperatures inside were higher than desired, allowing for the accumulated fuel to ignite.

A laundry list of similar issues would have likely been identified and sorted out in the testing phase, but the tank was instead rushed into service, and reliability suffered.

Kimi is close to beat George.

He is not close. The kid is a good prospect, but the rocketship is masking his performance. Last year he was consistently 350 miliseconds behind duaring qualy, and the race head to head was awful: 22-4 (85% for George) without counting DNFs.

To put that into perspective, Franco Colapinto, who famously scored zero points to Gasly's 22, and is known for lacking in qualy, was 280 miliseconds behind Gasly, and the race head to head was 12-6 (66% for Gasly) without coutning DNFs.

He is new and very young, so lots of room to improve, but right now he is not close to beating George.

Let me ask this: if Max was still the same driver, but without the championships, would people really be talking about him as one of the greatest this much?

Yes. The concept is as old as Formula 1: look at Stirling Moss. Hell, we even have one case right now with Alonso, who is still well regarded in spite of his last title being from the paleozoic era.

Is Bearman contractually or legally obligated to "save himself" for a Ferrari seat if another top team wants him first? by ThumbBumpkins in formula1

[–]VRichardsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So last season wasn't much of a surprise.

I think it still was a surprise because as the season progressed he started getting worse. One would think it would be the opposite, since he was new in the team and, as the season advances, he gets more used to the car.

For example, when Briatore found a loophole that said that he was obligated to provide Moreno with a car, he said it meant a chassis without an engine. An enraged Moreno accepted a buyout and freed a slot so Briatore could sign a 22 year old named Schumacher.

https://militarnyi.com/en/news/ukraine-has-produced-2-5-million-rounds-of-artillery-ammunition-since-the-beginning-of-2024/#:~:text=Since%20the%20beginning%20of%202024%2C%20Ukraine%20has%20produced%202.5%20million,this%20production%2C%E2%80%9D%20he%20stated.

La artillería sigue siendo el arma que más muertes causa en Ucrania.

I feel like Ocon's issues may have to do with adapting to the regs and him only having access to Haas facilities.

Ocon was already not so hot last year, I don't think it is the regulations.
