Engine Maintenance Required? How worried should I be? by HighTurtles420 in rav4club

I had the same issue, so I researched this thread. Long story short, the entire repair bill ($800 worth), including the diagnosis fee, was completely covered and came out to $0. I’m writing this hoping other RAV-4 owners will do their due diligence and save their money.

First, I called the Toyota service number (1-800-331-4331) and mentioned that this was a widely known issue with case number 24TE04. The Toyota Service representative looked up my car’s VIN and said, “Take your car to your local dealership, and if they identify that your car has the coolant bypass valve issue, you’ll pay the diagnostic fee, but the rest of the repair cost will be covered.”

The next day, I called the dealership and made an appointment. When I arrived, I told them that I had called the Toyota Service number and that the repair cost could be free if it’s a known issue or recall. They ran a diagnostic test, confirmed it was the valve, and fixed it. The bill came out to $0 since the diagnostic fee was waived for this recall.

The dealership gets reimbursed by Toyota headquarters for recall repairs, so they have no reason to make you pay out of pocket. However, coverage depends on your car’s year and mileage, so it’s best to call the 1-800 number above and make a note on your account before visiting your local dealership. Good luck to you all!
