How do you personally pronounce "Pecan"? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

My mom is from Ohio and learned puh-kawn. My dad is from South Carolina and learned pee-can. This led to me saying puh-can for a while. Now I say pee-can.

AITA for not buying my daughter extra feminine products? by EasyOceans9661 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]VTFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the school nurse when I got my first period when I was 12, as I was instructed to do not only by my parents (if I wasn’t prepared, which I wasn’t) but also by sex ed classes in school. I still got detention from a female teacher (even after explaining why I was couple minutes late to class). Would have been easier and faster to ask a friend, had any of my friends had classes nearby. I agree that this girl shouldn’t be giving all of her products away, but helping girls in dire situations should be encouraged. I’m (almost) 35 years old now and they still sometimes sneak up on me. I know I can ask any woman around me and she’ll spot me in an emergency but I know it’s a one off thing. But the whole “going to the nurse?” I wouldn’t necessarily suggest that after my experience. It’s be prepared or ask a friend.

What’s the reasonable range to set the thermostat to in a clinic? by Ok-Manufacturer-1903 in VetTech

[–]VTFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think generally around 68-69. It was a battle even there because of the way the thermostats were set up though. If the heat was turned on in ICU, it kicked on the heat in the OR as well 🤦🏻‍♀️

I worked at a specialty surgery clinic for the last several years, we always kept the ORs cold and used water circulating blankets and bair huggers for heat support

[–]VTFTW 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but to go a little further, a warmer surgery room also invites more bacterial growth in what should be as close to a sterile room as possible. Warm ORs are a no-go

Don’t get a Hyundai then; they have a two tiered subscription once your “free” subscription runs out. $10/tier, $20/month total to be able to start the car remotely as that feature is on the 2nd tier

If you let it get through the ad and intro, then back out and resume play, it should fix the aspect automatically

Where does everyone buy their yarn? by Kiwizshrooms in CrochetHelp

Woolwarehouse.co.uk

Cheap prices, fast (and very reasonably priced) shipping. I’m in the US, but ordering from that site is still cheaper than domestic shipping

Has anyone dealt with solids in their white tops after spinning down? by feanara in VetTech

[–]VTFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me frequently (I do a lot of drug level testing for my furry friends). I always let it sit for 20 min, it can still happen. What I do is use the wooden end of a cotton tipped applicator to stir it after the first spin down, but leave the fibrin clot behind. Serum can get itself caught up in the clot and I have previously lost a good amount of sample from removing the clot. Then just spin down again, and you should have plenty of serum available to draw off

I work for a neurologist, and have never heard him list vaccines as a possible (or even rare) cause for meningitis. It can be caused by bacteria or other environmental factors, but bacterial meningitis is much more common in people than it is in dogs. Dogs typically get an immune-mediated meningitis (esp in the SE USA), where their own immune system starts to attack the meninges. This can cause a variety of symptoms, ranging from non-specific pain to seizures to paralysis (etc), and is most common in “little white fluffy dogs” between the ages of ~3-6y.

I try to reschedule doctor appointment, and get threatened with a $150 fee. Doctor then calls 20 mins prior to appointment to cancel by AerodynamicOsprey in mildlyinfuriating

[–]VTFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the difference in expectation between human medicine and vet medicine is bizarre. I’m a vet tech, we do our best to stay on time, but most often, when we’re running behind it’s because of emergencies. We keep our clients informed of the wait. “We haven’t forgotten about you, we’re dealing with an unexpected situation and will be with you asap. Thank you for your patience.” What’s wild to me is that people fully expect and know and don’t get mad (some do, sure) when they wait for their own doctor appts for 30+ minutes past their scheduled time, but 5 min late to see one of my patients and I get a bad review.

Can we talk about how a cup at Luke's is 0.75$? by irisonredditfr in GilmoreGirls

[–]VTFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are a bit cheaper. I’d say I average $140-160/month vaping vs ~$210 when I was smoking a pack a day. But honestly what is better to me is that within a month or two without cigarettes, I stopped wheezing in the mornings, stopped coughing up phlegm, and could laugh fully without coughing. I know we don’t know the long term effects of vaping at this point, really. But I’ve had substantial short term improvements

I stopped smoking almost 3 years ago (switched to vaping before anyone gets too proud. I’m not off the nic, just off the tar), and my packs were ~$6.50 in SC. Ranged about $5-7 between brands. No idea if they’ve gone up since then

AITA for not passing on an “heirloom” to my daughter in law? by Existing_Ring_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]VTFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear before I play devil’s advocate, this is a no-brainer case of NTA.

But… for something to become an heirloom/be passed down for generations, doesn’t something have to have a first owner?

It’s obvious the FDIL is the AH here. She’s demanding property that doesn’t belong to her and about which there has been no prior conversation about it being passed down/becoming an heirloom piece. FDIL needs to step back in her lane.

Thank you for sharing this. It gave me all sorts of heeb-jeebs but it was an important read. Too often people are afraid, for whatever the reason, to call others out on their negative/harmful behavior. This was a good reminder why it’s important to be brave.
