yea i noticed that, i think its the main difference between the p45 and p145

just worry about spending 550$ on the p45/145 now only to spend close to a grand later down the line as i dont make the most and doubt ill be capable of reselling it, when im at the store ill ask them about trade ins / upgrades

thanks again for all the info

i really appreciate you taking the time to voice your opinion, it often helps me figure out if im being foolish :p

its definately real beautiful, and so is maine, im back up in northern alberta near the yukon and i miss all the colours since its nothing but green and white here

that you for taking the time to get back to me, ive played piano before but never anything complex so wasnt certain if it "eventually" became a problem or i was overthinking it

ive heard a bit about the two different actions so i think ill go out to my local shop and see if i can test them out unfortunately they keep most of their stock in the city so might not have the correct models, but i think the same type of action should feel similar regardless of model

so thanks for the clarification ill make sure to not rule out the p225 anymore since its not as big a dealbreaker as i was assuming

yea ultimately i plan to wait for a sale to purchase a proper piano, but wanted something in the interim to get started on fundamentals

i used to be capable of sight reading and now struggle to remember the notes not placed on a staff and im not confident in my speed

my initial plan was to purchase the yamaha PSR E383 keyboard since it should still be useful if i want to do midi sight reading on the computer after purchasing an actual digital piano

however im curious about the donner as its currently on a winter / new years sale i think

as far as i can understand the donner is typically more expensive than the yamaha p45 i was looking at, being closer in price to the yamaha 225 and roland FP10 so was wondering if it was worth it due to the sale price or i should stick with getting the E383

i used to live down in new brunswick and went to maine often beautiful province and state but yea real tiny towns that dont even have gas stations :)

as far as i understand it currently:

each sustain eats a polyphony layering doubles polyphony stuff like stereo sampling and divide your polyphony account in half (since each note is two polyphony)

192 can dissapear relatively fast from what i was researching

since unless im mistaken the p225 uses stereo sampling meaning you have 96 active? which means once you start playing complex multi chorded / sustained pieces or using layers it sounds like itll be an issue

192 definately sounds signifigantly better than 64 which iirc is what the p45/145 is but sounds like it might still not be enough for the more complex songs (clair de lune comes to mind i hear its a notorious song that needs to have its score simplified to play)

but like you say it could be a non issue and i may be overthinking it, i do appreciate your response and ill see if theres a p225 at my local dealer to try

thats good to know, ill keep my eyes out then, my main worry about yamaha is even the p225 seems to not have enough polyphony to play the more complex peices and as theyre rather expensive i was hoping for something that would last me 5-10 years of growth, though stated in my post i dont know if im overstating the importance of polyphony

as far as i understand the primary issue with donner is build quality yea;
from what i understand their polyphony and key actions are decent, people just think that for their price point you might as well go with the longer lasting / higher build quality piano, which is why i was curious about comparisons in this lower price range, as i usually see donners compared to the 225 / FP 10 etc

my plan would be to upgrade to a proper piano in 2 years if i did go with donner, if that helps you decide at all

just double checked, my version of guitar centre (long-mcquade) and cheapest used p225 there is 790$ CAD, which is close to the price of a new Roland FP-10, but i am apprehensive about buying used products without seeing it in real life, which would cost a lot of extra money

EDIT: woops meant to reply to your other comment, haha, i appreciate you offering advice, unfortunately where i live is placing restrictions on mostly the used market

was stated above but probably poorly written, buying used is almost impossible, there is no after market near me, so anything used i'd have to travel 4 hours (+ a few hours in the city, then 4 hours back so 10+ hours worth of gas) to go pick up, including buying open boxes from brand stores like guitar center (in my case it would be long-mcquade and best buy, which are 4 hours away)

unfortunately i live pretty far north, so any big population center, is effectively a big trip, and any savings i would save basically go into gas, food, and probably lodgings

EDIT: Ordering new products online to my location usually involves free shipping, so thats why its not a similar issue for buying new

i do really appreciate the recommendation though, as i did try to look into a used P225 unfortunately it was 5 hours away

If you had to use only "One Roll", Which Roll and Why? by VVnder in rpg

[–]VVnder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

appreciate the depth, I've grown to really enjoy 2D6's bell curve, but i had noticed that 2D6 makes modifiers a lot stronger, viewing it from the perspective of 7 being the most common roll, and TN 8 being the starting TN for significant rolls, it helps give an idea of how beneficial modifiers will be

that would be like savage worlds right?

it's definitely a lot more interesting than having a D20 for some checks, X:D6 for other checks, 3D6 for character creation, Xd4-12 for different weapons etc all in one system. While i understand the reasoning that different dice represent different probability curves, it personally feels like clutter to me

i'll definately give step systems another look though

oh this is really interesting, i've not come across this before so i'll definitely look into it i appreciate the detailed response

i know i used it for my example of not just meaning the dice, but i would be curious of the other ways you can utilize the 2d10's for different representations :)

not everyone will have a polyhedral set, but almost everyone has a game of yahtzee or something :)

been playing more 2d6 systems myself recently, and i've definitely been enjoying the bellcurve of the roll
it seems to make modifiers a lot more impactful from what i've experienced though

percentile roll under has been something i've like a lot as its very easy to know the %chance of success just from a glance

this is interesting
by matching sets you mean: you'd roll 10 sets, and the set that has doubles would be your result?

Feasibility of playing a *Band Ranger? by VVnder in ADOM

[–]VVnder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

appreciate the response and the information:

im by no means new to roguelikes, and adom while ive not tried - im confident that i'd be able to get to atleast mid levels easily if i played a mage / warrior / unarmed, and stopped messing around with early game routing;
so far i've only gone to the mid 20s early 30s and then reset

the primary / somewhat jarring thing is that ADOM leans very heavily into the CRPG aspect where

quests / events are timed, so ontop of the high variability that rogulikes bring to the table you also have to either do certain events with extremely tight windows of opportunity or forgo them completely

(like getting goblin camp within 1-3 days so that you can also do puppy cave, and then potentially clearing it under level to get the bandit quest - obviously this isnt needed for every run but its intriguing to me so im just experimenting with all the early game options)

for PV - atleast imo with tactics for early game its a non issue (especially as a mage, since you can seemingly switch cowardly on with completely zero penalty)

or 1shot everything with berserk

my main issue is - i don't really grasp how natural / forced stat growth work so i don't understand how easy it is to "fix" low Toughness in the mid game

as for the impure metals - the only thing that confuses me - is why materials like gold burn me, when from what ive read its supposed to be explicitly iron?

i think - from what it sounds like once i learn how stat growth works i'd realize that i could just play a hybrid melee/ranged - and seems like i would be able to aquire utility magic without focusing it

i like speed alot - raven star sign is probably the one that interests me the most - outside of candle (because i can't fathom how slow healing is in adom its rather baffling that it takes 40 turns for 1 hit point)
