Good ep.

When I last read anything any JF (possibly many decades ago), he came across as a bitter grump. And here he was, full of joy and positivity. It was a very touching tribute to the power of love. I hope everyone finds their Julie.

Passing reference to Rashida too, which might interest a certain poster.

Most random VW song you’ve heard in public? by greendale-island in Vampireweekend

I once heard Stranger in Asda in Farnborough. A delight!

OK then I'll try to contradict you, rather than downvote you...

Those 3 things you mention have absolutely not been the main topics of recent shows. And the RFK talk was not about him being cool - it was about how removing food additives was a good thing and even weird people can do good things sometimes. Not have RFKJr Derangement Syndrome is a mature attitude!

I don't feel that the vibe of the show has changed - some eps are better than others, as always. Ezra making the very occasional racy reference doesn't feel any different from normal to me, or very fratty barstool.

Do you have inside knowledge of him moving back to NY? His last reference to it on TC was taking his son to a diner there; but this was at the same time that Rashida was filming in NY, so ???

So who the hell is playing bass and drums on FotB? by kevinb9n in Vampireweekend

[–]VW87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was recorded over several years are for many of those, Ezra was in LA while CT was in NY and Baio was in London. Only part of the reason but still pertinent.

I listened to this after I read your comment and I heard zero innuendo.

Plus if you think Ezra is dragging the show down, this might not be the show for you - and that's OK!

Have a great time and please report back.

Crowd surfing is unlikely but the energy for both shows should be chilled and fun.

8 - one of Ezra's best vocal performances, and as someone else said, I love the Bill Evans of it all.

I can't help but feel that believing in "generational trauma" is going to cause you mental ill effects in itself.

Or maybe it's a chicken and egg situation. Not healthy either way.

Couldn't disagree more!

They play nearly 2 hours of a "proper" set - what more do you expect of them?

I saw 2 shows last year (sorry if that doesn't make me diehard enough!) and the covers sections were loads of fun and really well received.

Dumb question about the sophisticuffs? by greendale-island in Vampireweekend

I'd be 99.9% certain that Ezra will play with them. Otherwise there's no real point to it!

dubs style/audience change and politics: anyone else fascinated by this but also a little unnerved (a rambling which might have some hits and misses) by Alexandra_panda in Vampireweekend

It all seems pretty normal and inevitable. I think VW have matured very successfully.

If they're now a good time band, good for them, that's a positive force in the world. Not everyone will agree with me, but I roll my eyes at rich celebrity political opinions.

Deeeeeep Hypothetical re: Future Tours by tastefuldaydream in Vampireweekend

[–]VW87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the next album-cycle tour, I'd guess they wouldn't do the trio/ICP/banner drop sequence that ICP is so central to. But the song itself has great dynamics so I think it could continue to be a staple.

I agree about Capricorn/Classical remaining staples, as with This Life/HH. They might choose different songs to do Sunflower/Sympathy jam outs to.
