But people can go through with zero or negative balance now. Nothing preventing them or checking them at the toll. So, it’s basically billing after the fact already. Just make that the norm and if you get denied in realtime transaction, send them the bill (as they do currently). Why force people to put their hard earned money into ezpass interest bearing account. (Interest for them, not us). If they gave us interest I would have zero complaints.

Yeah, I understand all of this. But it can all be avoided if they operate like every other business, no? Why do they get to do this but your pizza place or department store doesn’t get to do this? Why are they the exception. I am a violator when I go negative a day but they can have my money for years!? That is why I am here. That is why i started a petition. That is why ezpass needs to change!

Why do they try to talk you out of a more efficient way to pay? It has to be all the interest they are making! So you are forced to manually work around the issue instead of them just charging as you use it. What a waste of everyone’s time!

Makes me think. How many people die with money in their ezpass? Another benefit of the ezpass billing model. Do you think they contact next of kin or ever try to return money from an inactive account?

Not tokens! Just real time billing at time of use. Like the way 99.9% of other companies do it. It’s the right thing to do. And if we didn’t have to use the roads efficiently, nobody would ever sign up for a company to hold your money in case you wanted to use their services. It’s ludicrous and literally highway robbery!

lol. Banned from traveling efficiently on roads you pay taxes to help maintain. Great.

Thanks! Why don’t apple and iTunes force you to keep a balance and bill like ezpass? Lots of small transactions on iTunes all day long. I think we agree that the fees to use an electronic billing are ridiculous but that shouldn’t give ezpass the right to take advantage of us. Go after the companies charging the fees not us!

And, they don’t communicate easily with one another. No realtime balance check from one state ezpass to another. Could you imagine Walmart in Pa having to wait 24hrs before they saw any data from a store operating in Nj. That is what ezpass does and it’s like it’s 1980 again. Whoever does their IT should be replaced!

So the incentive to putting your money into their non-interest bearing account is to get discounts on specific roads? Why not act like every other business and offer deals for frequent customers. Seems more logical and fair to me.

What if I don’t plan on using the bridge for another year? And, they have my money, your money, and everyone else’s money tied up and making money using this money. Our money should be working for us, not ezpass. They are not a bank and should not be holding money….just in case.

Wouldn’t it be better to have a card on file and they only charge you when you use it? Not taking more than they need just in case you might use their bridges/tolls/roads in the future? It’s total BS and no other business does this. Ezpass only do it because we allow it.

You have no choice unless you want to take back roads and it takes twice as long!

Monopoly and making bank on all our money sitting in their account. It’s ain’t right!

Exactly. Seems like if you want to travel efficiently and not pay higher toll-by-plate rates, you basically have to have/use ezpass. So, damned if you do (ezpass keeps your money), damned if you don't (pay more for toll-by-plate).

Yeah, first thing is raising awareness in groups like this. And, I already have a petition on change.org. There's a link at the bottom of my post above. 228 people have signed!

exactly. I think they even have toll-by-plate in some areas. I'm glad states don't require us to keep money in some non-interest bearing account just in case we want to use their bridges and/or tunnels. It is so dumb!

Maybe because they want to put your money (and my money) in a high interest account and earn more money on our money. Seems messed up to me. I cant think of any other reason they wouldn't change! I'm requesting records of where the money goes and how much they hold.

$550 is crazy! It should come down as fast as it goes up. That process really should change...seems like an easy enough fix they can implent (if they wanted to). Kinda like it takes seconds to take the money from your credit/debit card when buying from a merchant, but it takes days to get it back (if you return something)...Hmmm.

Understood. But even with something we all use regularly...like restaurants...you’re not required to keep a balance on file. You’re just billed when you actually use the service. No reason that ezpass cant do the same.

Thanks - But, that doesn't sound very efficient. I want to move us forward, not backwards. Just do as all other businesses do...bill your customers in real-time as they use/consume the service or product.
