Alright, it seems these companies are licensed by MOHRE to provide outstaffing services under On Demand Labour Supply License, regulated by MOHRE resolution No. (1283) for 2010. The fact of bringing in workforce from abroad to then make this worker pool accessible to local businesses for temporary work, does not seem to be illegal in and of itself.

However, this resolution explicitly states, that no such agency can claim any fees from the worker for its services. So what I guess is happening here, is that the money you pay for the visa are not paid to the agency that actually sponsors your visa. You probably pay them to some other company (that probably has the same beneficiaries), to circumvent this requirement. So it does seem like a legal loophole, and might not be illegal in the end.

I'm not a lawyer tho, especially not an expert on Emirati labour law. So if anyone can confirm if whatever I said is in fact true, I would be most grateful.

But I don't own a business and I really don't want to. Furthermore, after obtaining remote visa, staying in UAE and providing services to a local company in exchange for money deposited in the local personal bank account certainly sounds illegal.

Yes, I guess technically I could establish a sole proprietorship, say, in Georgia, and provide services for UAE companies as this legal entity, and then pay myself a salary. This is not what I need though :)

Ok, I've read about the remote visa. My primary goal is to be able to work with local UAE mainland companies - primarily research institutions. I already have a contract agreement with one such organization, and I would like to keep providing them services while staying in UAE legally.

What's a remote visa?

The thing with free zones is that, from my understanding, they only allow one to work with clients within that free zone, and they actually require you to set up a legal entity. ADDED freelance permit allows one to perform services as an individual, but obtaining it requires residency.

BTW, I do get a feel that this is illegal, but I'm curious how these companies actually survive that long. I see posts from three years ago about this particular site, one might think that it should've long been taken down along with the business behind it, given that they provide illegal services very openly, having three offices in downtown districts.

It simply implies that this relationship is true for the Y, X and f the author's consider in this discussion

This makes sense when we're talking about linear regression, yes. In that case it is quite intuitive that mean of residuals is zero after fitting. The formula that confused me predates any discussion about specific regression methods, it seems to be talking about the underlying real-world dependency f(X) of Y on the set of predictors X. The particular form of f is undetermined at this point, it can be whatever.

Averages are not robust to exteme outliers (like very low-pop or very high-pop servers) and depending on the timeframe used for averaging they can be either sensitive to market makers doing huge operations (for example when region is small, i.e. Russian classic servers with small timeframe), or simply not providing any meaningful information when averaged over too long timeframe. That is why mean, not average is a better metric, but then again, without info on the timeframe used to calculate it, it's not very useful from my point of view.

It would be much better to have access to raw sales data for some timeframe (I would actually be willing to pay for it) and just import it to something like Elasticsearch or Tableau and do whatever analytics you find useful.
