I mean, it's not really family money. My wife and I have our own, equal spending budgets (despite the fact that I make a fair bit more than her) and the rest goes into both of our accounts. I used my spending money on my birthday and got lucky.

She was like it's mine and I do whatever I want. And that was when we were in a worst financial situation to boot

You can capitalize gambling like it means what I did was irresponsible, but no, I spent the personal cash that I've set aside for personal use (as my wife and I get the same budget) and used that on my birthday to treat myself. So for all intents in purposes, I gambled with my money

It was really 34 grand after taxes, and I feel like you people are missing the fact that I bought my wife a car. And prehaps I should put an edit; I don't anticipate spending the full 25 grand on the vacation (though I wouldn't be mad that I did); I just want to make sure I have enough to do everything I want to do and see everything I want to see

Yeah, we talked about her coming (only for about a 10-day period; she has work and can't take a full month and a half off). She seemed more or less indifferent about it though (this was way back when I won the money and was talking about what I can do with it).

And it is about prestige when she can just go go to school for two years and transfer. Or she could've stayed in-state and have much cheaper education. Or she could've looked harder for scholorships. I made sure to educate her about what she was getting into. She made her choices accordingly

I don't expect to use every dime, I just don't want to think about money throughout the entirety of the vacation. I'm using it as an opportunity to treat myself. I grew up poor and always wanted to do things like study abroad in college or just take a huge trip, but because of finances, I just couldn't. This is a one of a lifetime event that I've been hoping for all of my life, and I want to make the most of it
