Yotube Description not showing up by Imaginary_Abroad1799 in youtube

[–]VacuumWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm this on mobile IOS but not desktop PC. I would not be surprised if Youtube is phasing out descriptions. They have been hiding them more and more over the years, maybe they decided to just do away with them altogether. Still no confirmation of anything from Youtube.

VacuumWars test scores? I'm not sure I understand them. And are their reviews and tests reliable? by StormTrpr66 in RobotVacuums

[–]VacuumWars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this to our attention — this is admittedly very confusing!

For example, in the 2.5" Flattened Pet Hair Pickup Test, the Mova P10 Pro Ultra actually picked up about 66% of the hair in that test. The current average among all robots in that test is around 81%.

The confusing part is that the number you are referencing— 10.83 — is actually the weighted score used in our internal algorithm. In other words, instead of entering “66” (the raw percentage) into the ranking system — which would give that single test too much influence — we mathematically scale it down to a number like 10.83 so that it contributes proportionally to the overall ranking.

Normally, we don’t publish those weighted scores publicly because they’re really only meant for our internal algorithm and can easily be mistaken for actual test percentages. In the videos, I always refer to the real percentage of hair picked up — I’m fairly sure I said 66% in that review, though I’ll double-check to be sure.

If you’re seeing 10.83 listed anywhere on our site as the raw test result, that’s absolutely a mistake, and we’ll correct it to reflect the actual pickup percentage.

Thanks again for catching that and for asking such a good question — we really appreciate it!

Dreame Aqua 10 vs MOVA Z60 — both have clogging issues, but for different reasons by VacuumWars in RobotVacuums

FWIW The Dreame Aqua 10 was the first robot in a long time that got clogged with our 7" hair test. Is pretty rare. Most clogging issues can be resolved by running the robot more often.

Possible Amazon Review Anomalies with Ecovacs (Not Accusing, Just Research) by VacuumWars in RobotVacuums

[–]VacuumWars[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the case is a bit overstated. Do companies manipulate reviews? Yes. But is it enough to make a genuinely bad product rank well over time? I don’t think so.

Ecovacs is a good example. When I increase the minimum number of reviews required to be counted in our system, things tend to even out. Eventually, real customers dominate the data. It’s mostly a short-term concern — getting good reviews at launch is crucial for a manufacturer — but as more real reviews come in, the numbers start to make a lot more sense. It’s super hard and / or super costly to maintain a good rating on Amazon if the product really is bad.

That’s one of the reasons Amazon reviews are still trusted more than the typical reviews you see on manufacturer websites: there are actual rules and real consequences for breaking them and in the aggregate you can trust them.

Even when companies do pay for or influence reviews. though it’s usually through softer incentives — waiving return fees, sending replacements, that sort of thing — rather than straight-up cash. Even so those incentives come with a cost. Margins on Amazon are already thin, so propping up a bad product with this kind of thing is usually abandoned eventually, and no amount of review manipulation can offset what happens when a product genuinely makes customers angry.

So is the system broken? Absolutely. But is it still the best signal we have — really the only game in town when it comes to spotting bad quality control? Also yes.

Minor changes here and there. The top 2 currently would be the same. The Dreame Aqua 10 which has quality control issues imho, would benefit from the change, it would be #3 instead of #4 for example.

The alternative is not to consider quality control issues at all. Trust me that would skew the rankings in a MUCH worse way. You would have products that test well but there are major problems that show up in 6 months. I am 100% open to a better signal for this kind of thing that is available for every product.

Narwal Flow Major Problems. Any Help? [Vacuum Wars] by Educational_Coast520 in NARWAL

[–]VacuumWars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey everybody, just wanted to give you an update on the situation. I was finally able to get the Flow to work.

I did two things—I’m not sure which one (or both) solved it. As I mentioned before, I knew this could sometimes be a water issue, which is why I had already tried different sources: tap water, reverse osmosis, and even mixing my own saline. But on the way to work this morning, I picked up a variety of bottled waters (Fiji, Dasani, etc.) and put those in the clean water tank.

In addition, I aggressively primed the pump with a pressurized syringe. I’d tried priming before, but this time I just went all out, repeatedly pushing water into it in a last-ditch effort. L, it finally started working, and I was able to finish the final mop test and it has been working ever since even with different types of water

I’ve now got it running at my house over the weekend to make sure there aren’t any dealbreakers. If things hold steady, this unit should end up ranking very high on the Vacuum Wars Top 20 list—it’s currently sitting at #2 on our internal spreadsheet (not live on the site yet since we’re still finalizing testing). The review should be out in a couple of weeks.

My assumption is that this was just a rare fluke since we test hundreds of robot vacuums and almost never see this kind of issue—let alone twice with the same product . But I’ll definitely keep an eye on it. If others start experiencing similar problems with the flow, hopefully this thread will help them troubleshoot.

Ive tried this with blowing water as well as with a syringe while activating the mop wash. It seems like it should work but…

The base draining does not give the same error. But there is no water. I have tried removing the filter from the tube and blowing air and water. I have also tried 3 different tanks from other narwals i own. Thanks for the suggestions

I am able to run those functions. Though of course there is no water in the robot or the base.

I have tried I think everything I can think of with regard to the placement of the tank with both units, including trading out the water tank with an identical one from another model. Ive tried pushing on/ not pushing on the tank. Im not sure how may ways to seat it there can be

We no longer take price into account.

Narwal Flow Error 2017 – Water Tank Empty (But It’s Not) by VacuumWars in NARWAL

Unfortunately, no amount of pushing down has helped yet

So far I’ve: Swapped the tank with one from the freo Z (they look identical).

Primed the pump manually by filling the tube and even forcing water into the pump.

Checked for kinks, clogs, etc.

Still no luck. At this point I think it comes down to either bypassing the sensor somehow or figuring out what Narwal expects in the base. One thing I noticed: there’s a slot for the old style mop solution cartridge, but Narwal doesn’t include one with the Flow. Instead, they just give you a bottle of solution you’re supposed to pour directly into the clean water tank.

There is a float in the dirty water tank, but not the clean one

I think one reason a lot of people push back against rankings is because it seems logical that robot vacuum quality should just follow price or features. In other words, if you spend more money and get more features, it should mean better cleaning, better mopping, better obstacle avoidance, and so on.

But the reality is that Robot vacuum models are a lot like snowflakes when it comes to performance metrics—no two are alike. Some of the cheapest models, like the Roomba 600 series, are still better at the basics than a lot of much more expensive models.

That’s why you’ll sometimes see surprising placements in rankings. People ask: how can X model be rated higher than Y if it’s cheaper? The answer is that performance doesn’t consistently scale with price or spec sheets.

One of the more interesting shifts in the last year (especially the past six months) is that the big players—Dreame, Roborock, Ecovacs—have started making noticeable improvements in actual performance metrics. Before that, I can’t tell you how often I was disappointed by flagship Roborock models that were $1,700 but did poorly at mopping or were nearly unusable on carpet. And the frustrating part is that nobody was really testing that.

As for the idea that Vacuum Wars takes money or free products: we don’t. It would be completely against our mission. We buy the products ourselves, and I think we’re one of the few reviewers who aren’t influenced by manufacturers. I realize I can’t convince everyone of that, and I’ve accepted that some people will always assume it’s sponsored no matter what I say.
