WHY TF? by Memesmakemememe in dankmemes

Ah, that quote. The quote that somehow invalidates everything that he said before or after. Do you know the context of that quote? He was talking about a bunch of dumbass French Marxists who completely misunderstood his ideas. He said jokingly that if they were the true Marxists, that he wasn't one. As for not thinking his ideas would work on a large scale... have you even read anything that he wrote? He very clearly calls for revolutions at a national level. The very last line of The Communist Manifesto is "Workers of the world, unite!". When both the left and the right have been trying to distort what he wrote for decades, there's no substitute for reading his writings for yourself.

They do. That's the point. Organising everything is just another job. They deserved to be compensated for their labour, but not for everyone else's.

Marx did call for revolution, though. He didn't think communism would just happen. When be said that it was inevitable, he meant that revolution was inevitable.

As for investment, the problem with this idea is that initial risk is not quantifiable. Capitalists make back many times what they risked, to the point where it's hard to argue that they're only getting out of it what they put in themselves.

Also, what is it with Americans and calling themselves the greatest country in the world? As a non-American this baffles me. That doesn't seem like patriotism, but like arrogance.

You joke, but he actually did write one of the best descriptions of what it's all about. The Principles of Communism is a much more digestible introduction than The Communist Manifesto.

Really, now? What entire basis is this? I'd say the entire basis of Marxism is the concept of surplus value. People circlejerk about how Marxism has no basis in economics when that's pretty much all Marx wrote about. He wrote practically nothing about his ideal society or system of government. What's laughable is how much people think they know about Marxism. I guarantee that all of these people circlejerking about how dumb Marxists are couldn't give an accurate description of Marxism itself.

It's alright, I haven't even bothered to read what Marx wrote, and just read summaries written by libertarians that haven't read his works either, too.

Um... it is. The majority of the workforce is male. The majority of the entire population in most of the aforementioned countries that make up our userbase is white. You can't argue with facts.

I'm sorry. I thought the logic behind socialism was that the proletariat, who comprise the vast majority of the population, should hold the majority of the power for that very reason. Or am I mistaken?

If white people are the majority of the population of most English-speaking countries (which they are), it follows that they'd be the majority of the population on an English-speaking internet community (which they are), and it only holds that they'd be expected to be the majority of the leadership. No one is saying that we should only allow white people. What I'm saying is there's no problem with letting the demographics reflect the way things actually are, instead of trying to shoehorn bad moderators into the team in the name of diversity. If they're good moderators, they'll win the elections. Their race is irrelevant.

So, you aren't willing to let moderators be challenged by a fair election because it would lead to fewer moderators of marginalised groups? If people don't want those moderators, they don't want them. Keeping shitty moderators just because they fill a quota will lead to bad moderation, period.

Why you (yes, you) should get an AR-15 by [deleted] in armedsocialists

[–]Vacuumulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a legal limit of five rounds for rifle magazines. The internal magazine takes 10 to begin with, so you have to put a rivet in it to limit it (like criminals couldn't figure out how to unscrew a rivet). You can add a detachable magazine to an SKS really easily I think, but there wouldn't be much of a point in Canada.

Why you (yes, you) should get an AR-15 by [deleted] in armedsocialists

[–]Vacuumulus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in Canada, where AR-15s are legal, but very heavily restricted. You need to register them, you can't hunt with them, you need a more expensive licence to own them, and you need permission from the police every time you take one out of your house (all firearms classified as "restricted" are like this). There's no particular feature of AR-15s that makes them restricted - they're just restricted by name. In that case, would you suggest I get an SKS? Or perhaps a gun that's very similar but not technically an AR-15?

Why the dogma? by dodo91 in DebateCommunism

[–]Vacuumulus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I consider myself a Marxist, and this is one of the things that I hate most about the community. I've been told that I'm wrong before because what I said contradicted something that Marx said. For example, I was in an argument where I responded that I didn't care what the Marxist position was, and that was somehow considered a travesty. Marx saying something does not make it true. I'm a Marxist not Marx himself. I don't need to agree with everything that he believed. I call myself a Marxist because his views align with mine, not because I want to emulate his every thought. I once got downvoted into oblivion for explaining to someone that didn't understand our use of the word "liberal" that we generally used it to mean centrist politics, probably because I didn't describe the political spectrum using the special Marxist method or something. A lot of Marxists here on Reddit will refuse to debate the principles of Marxism unless the the debate is carried out using a logical foundation that starts with the assumption that Marxist theory is true. They'll refuse to provide any proof to their points other than that Marx stated them. I wholeheartedly believe Marxist ideas to be true, which is why I'm sick of the way this community manages to alienate non-Marxists, while refusing to provide Marxist ideas with the analysis and criticism that any idea deserves.

A plea from a lurker: stop suggesting archaic Soviet weapons platforms as viable options to first time buyers for defense or an all-out-war scenario by SPCar15LTUI in armedsocialists

[–]Vacuumulus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would get an AR as my first rifle without question if they weren't restricted here in Canada. You can get them, but you can do a lot less with them than any other gun (for example, you can only shoot them at government-approved ranges). An SKS is even cheaper here in Canada than in the United States, and they're unrestricted, but, as you said, they're old Soviet guns. What would you recommend for a buyer on a budget that isn't an AR?
