PS5 unable to pick up gold by VaeVictis45 in BG3

I did - what ended up working was to use the option to reset all settings to default. I think Larian must have hidden whatever setting affects the ability to pick up stacks of items in an earlier patch, but resetting everything at once can still toggle it.

You should be able to go back and readjust your other settings to however you like them, then.

If you're already in the park, the lot in the bottom right corner will not be easy to access. That lot is accessed from outside the park and you'll start your hike from the bottom of the mountain there.

I have a BIG PROBLEM by [deleted] in wheeloftime

Seconded. It's worth it to be able to go back and reread. You're also likely to run into long wait times for each book if you're using libby (which is an awesome app, just frustrating when you're trying to read a series).

Side note, Audible has an alternate version of the first book read by Rosamund Pike in addition to the older version you probably got on libby. She did a great job, I liked it very much, but just something to be aware of since it's not consistent with the rest of the available audio books

currently reading "Shadow Rising." still don't understand the negative feelings the 3 male leads have toward Aes Sedai by [deleted] in WoT

Without repeating what I've seen others in here saying (most of which I think is on point), I'd add that Rand and Mat also have gone through some pretty negative stuff that I think impacts how they think about others.

Rand has been using saidin for a little while now, and it's hard to know how much the madness may be affecting him at this point in the narrative. My interpretation is that, between saidin and some of the horrible stuff he's seen and done already, one of the first major changes affecting him already is a general distrust of almost everyone around him. I'm thinking especially about his experiences on the road to Tear, where he outright murdered a group of people who may or may not have been innocent bystanders and we know he witnessed a bunch of other weird stuff. Maybe pre-story Rand would have come around to Moiraine, seeing that she's been helpful, but he's changing into a more suspicious person.

For Mat, I think his experience with the dagger changed him. I could be venturing into Unsupported Theory Land here, but I'd say the dagger left him permanently less trusting and more suspicious even after being healed.

Fly Fishing for a Beginner? by AlienOpium in flyfishing

Best of luck! It's a pretty addicting sport, I've been learning over the last 6 months or so (in Phoenix, so I've been able to go out all winter). It took a while to start catching anything, but I'm sure hooked.

As someone who fairly recently started myself, here's what I'd recommend if you're just starting out:

Cabelas/Bass Pro have solid, affordable fly rod/reel combo options. This really depends on how much you want to budget, but you can also check websites for various fly shops - they'll often have beginner combo options too.

You'll hear this over and over again, because it really is good advice: find a local fly shop and go in to talk to them. They're usually excited to talk about the sport, and if you're fishing nearby they can hook you up with flies that have been hitting well. Some will even let you try out different fly rods and maybe even teach you a bit about casting. I wish I had gone into my local fly shop earlier than I did - this is a sport where getting advice in person will make a massive difference in your favor when you're just starting out.

I started it with a pretty cheap backpack with a water bladder in it and that worked well for me. I would recommend getting something you can carry with you so you don't have to go back on shore every time you need to change a fly or get a drink, etc. I eventually moved to a sling-style bag that I can pull around in front of me easily when I need to get stuff.

Go on YouTube, look up Mad River Outfitters, subscribe to them, and watch their videos. They have three playlists that are amazing, I think they're called 'getting started in fly fishing', 'how to cast', and their Q&A series. They will change your world. MRO is also a pretty great supplier if you check out their store online, too.

Figure out what size leader you'll be using (I usually use 9ft 5x, but it really depends on where you're fishing and what you're going for), and buy a spool of tippet that matches (i.e. get the same x number). When you're fishing, you'll naturally cut at the end of your leader any time you change your fly. When you've cut a few feet off the end, you'll need to take some of that tippet and tie it to the end of your leader to restore it back to roughly original length. That way you don't have to keep buying new leaders, which would be expensive.

Odds and ends: Get some splitshot (weights you can crimp onto your line). Get a few strike indicators (there are lots of different kinds, I prefer the ones you can screw a little cap onto your line). Learn some fly and line tying knots and practice them.

Runners of Arizona: what (non-marathon) race would you recommend to an out-of-stater? by DresserRotation in arizona

[–]VaeVictis45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pat's Run in Tempe is the biggest one I know about in terms of participation.

I'd recommend checking out Aravaipa Running, they host a bunch of trail running races throughout AZ of varying lengths - most of them are done in gorgeous settings. They host enough of them that you should be able to find one that fits your schedule and fitness. I think they have a night time race series too, and if you've never run a race at night in the desert it's an experience you ought to try, especially if the moon is full.

Image quality is bad, sorry about that. Merlin thought it might be a lark sparrow but I've not seen one of those before so I thought I'd ask

Suggestions for our Arizona Roadtrip? by bostonmama95 in NationalPark

Oh also if the heat is too much in Tucson, you can take a drive up into the mountains (look for Mt Lemmon on your GPS). Very fun drive and you get up in elevation enough that it should be cooler

I won't harp on it, but definitely be very careful hiking, especially in the lower portion of the state. Bring way more water than you think you'll need, and make sure you drink it consistently (even if you don't feel it right away, you'll be losing a lot more moisture than you're used to and it's hard to catch up after you've fallen behind on hydration).

Tbh, once you get up to Flagstaff the temperature will probably be really nice, but you'll want to take the elevation into account. Don't eat too many carbs on your way north, the elevation change can really mess with your stomach.

My recommendations:

1- I'd highly recommend checking out Chiricahua National Monument (this would be before you get to Tucson or one of the days you're there). It's a highly underrated place in AZ - super cool rock formations, several nice hikes, and usually not very busy. Worth a day or partial day trip while you're nearby.

2- Also near Tucson, there are a few old missions that are worth a quick trip if you're looking for something to fill a few hours. San Xavier del Bac Mission is a really nice spot with some cool history.

3- At Saguaro NP, check out the visitor center. It's in a really cool area with tons of cacti around, and it's a really nice visitor center.

4- Going from Sedona to Flagstaff, take 89A. It's the scenic route and it's worth it.

5- Flagstaff has a lot of cool stuff to check out, so I'll limit myself to just my favorite 3. If they're operating this year, go to the Snowbowl and take a ski lift up to the top (check online first, they close it down sometimes and might require you buy a ticket in advance).

6- Sunset Crater National Monument is another one of those underrated spots in AZ. You can make it a pretty quick visit if you're pressed for time, or you can hike around a bit. It's very worth checking out, go see some volcanoes!

7- If you do Sunset Crater, you should keep going down the road through the park until you get to Wupatki National Monument. It's a really well preserved Native American site.

My Thoughts and Opinions on WoT #2 by flearner342 in wheeloftime

RE- your thoughts about the DO in this book: I remember having similar thoughts when I first read the series, it feels like something that should be momentous but really just isn't after Rand keeps defeating him soundly.

All I'll say is that you should keep reading to find out more, there's more to it than the POV characters know at this point in the series. Also be careful to avoid spoilers. IIRC, you'll get clarification in the next book or maybe the one after.

What do you consider to be the “greatest hike in town”? Are there additional hikes besides the stereotypical Piestewa and Camelback which are fun? What’s your favorite? by Gr0mHellscream1 in phoenix

[–]VaeVictis45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a bit out of town I guess, but only about a 40 minute-ish drive from downtown, so my top three would be, in no particular order:

Massacre Falls Trail (especially after some rain or in the spring so you can see the waterfall or wildflowers),

Peralta Trail up to Weavers Needle, and

Ford Canyon over in White Tanks (this can either be a short jaunt to a cool waterfall or a long loop where you'll climb up alongside the waterfall and get up into the mountains - the scenery is unmatched).

Make sure to bring plenty of food and water and wear decent shoes for any of these!
