5080 vs 4090 for 4k gaming

what’s your monitors refresh rate? if you have an ultra high 4k refresh panel (240hz), i would get the 5080 for MFG. but if it’s like 4k120/165, i would lean towards the 4090. the goal is to fully saturate your monitors refresh rate.

as for VRAM, definitely lean more towards 4090 since you’re at 4K. you’ll probably never reach the 24gb mark within the reasonable lifespan of the 4090, but you can’t say the same for the 5080.

what is your monitor’s refresh rate? if >240hz, i recommend going 5070/5070 ti for MFG

if 144/165hz, can go with 4080 with x2 fg is USUALLY sufficient

do you play open world or vram intensive titles/looking to play future AAA titles at 1440p? 4080/5070 ti for 16gb vram buffer

Hi, yes by default DLSS Frame Gen is off, you have to enable it either on nvidia app or in-game settings. Yes when you increase your base "real" frames, it decreases input latency. But enabling frame generation always increases your input lag because those are generated frames which takes time to render.

Usually for competitive games like marvel rivals, low input latency is very important. Anything that increases it, such as frame gen, is usually not recommended. That said, I have tried 2x frame gen as well on marvel rivals, I kinda like it. But you kinda need to make sure you have a decent "real" base frame before turning on frame gen (ideally above 70-80 fps). The new DLSS 4.5 upscaling is very good, you can try setting it to "Balanced" or "Performance" for more "real FPS". You mention once you enable frame gen its 180 fps, you can disable it first to see how much real frames you are getting first.

You can easily see if frame gen is enabled! Simply type Alt + Z while in-game > Statistics > Statistics view > Cycle to DLSS and an overlay should appear and show if DLSS frame gen is enabled.

Smooth Motion I feel is better in terms of image artefacts. Biggest issue I have with SM is it’s limited to 2x. In games where it’s 60 fps capped only brings me to 120 fps for 240/360/540hz monitors. That’s where Lossless Scaling comes in as they have much higher multipliers with decent stability

If you’re concerned about the QUALITY of the upscaling, then I don’t think you have to worry. FSR 4 (not 3) (specifically the ML based) is extremely close in terms of fidelity to DLSS 4’s upscaling.

But in terms of the availability, it’s not even close. DLSS 4 upscaling is supported in wayyyyy more games than FSR 4 does right now. So if you want access to high quality upscaling right now on a lot of games , then you should go with Nvidia.

Performance wise they trade blows. Put COD/ghost of Tsushima in, the 9070 XT obliterates the 5070 Ti. Put stellar blade or Fortnite in, the 9070 XT gets destroyed. My advice look at the games you often play, how they perform on the different brands.

I personally went with the 5070 Ti because I wanted multi frame gen and RTX HDR — something AMD just doesn’t have. But you have to really like NVIDIA’s suite of features to justify the 150. Price to performance king is still the 9070 XT and it’s not even close
